Not sure that Ryan actually interviewed, he was on our radar but for DC
I think you are right actually. As someone else noted, many could have taken themselves out of the running. Of course, this is in hindsight but if they liked Rex Ryan why didn't they offer him the job vs the DC (prior to the coach being hired)? RR had alot more experience than Zorn. What's done is done. There are alot of things the Skins have done that have confused me. |

Ahhhh....if only everybody could live up to the motto of this forum! :(
Here is your culprit...
I would go as far to say that Von Miller is a better collegiate football player than Orakpo. Orakpo was lazy in college, and unfortunately it translated to the pros. If only that guy gave 90% he'd be getting 15 sacks a year.

Have you truly not realized this? It was his biggest knock coming out of college also. He's a great player, in fact our best player.. but lazy.

Hey I'm not here to start bashing the guy. I'm just saying that he's lazy and could be even better if he was using that same speed on every play.
|
Re: Zorn Fired
In IR's defense though, he did a post a link with video of Orakpo's draft day where Mayock says one concern Mayock has about Orakpo is that he doesn't always give 100% effort. So while I don't really agree with IR or Mayock here, I'm not going to knock either for their opinion

I feel like it is a bit of a stretch to deduce Orakpo is lazy on the account of a 5 second comment Mayock made that stated that he didn't always give 100% effort. If that's the only evidence he has to back up his claim he may as well make that same statement about two thirds of the entire NFL. Mayock says a lot of people around the league have said this. What other people? I haven't heard this disucssion about Orakpo being explosive only about 80% of the time, and not playing that hard the rest of the snaps. |
Re: Zorn Fired
I'm guessing "lack of effort" can be subtle and one would have to watch the many Texas games Rak was in to get a clear picture of what exactly is meant by "lack of effort".

How do I know? I usually hang out on other teams fan sites and mock them but pathetic use of time aside you figure 3rd year guy, coming back into the same system for another year, the addition of Boldin/Stallworth/Houshmanzadeh to throw to, 2 starting quality backs and a good OL, an impactful defense - I mean what more do you want. I live in Baltimore Im familiar with the Ravens. I'm a Skins fan familiar with the Zorn debacle. Ive watched Cam Cameron since he arrived in Bmore- HAVE YOU??? You look at Flacco's numbers and while his TD went up, INt's went down, YET his passing yards remained low around 3200-3500 yds. I almost reject your question. You see there is a team called the Ravens if your not familiar. This conversation sorta needs a prerequisite of Zorn/Ravens/Cameron/Flacco/Skins- to which Im qualified not too sure about where your coming from on this. |

This says that team brass approached him & tried to get him to resign in midseason. It was discussed here at length & many columnists speculated w/good reason that the hiring of Sherm Lewis was an attempt to get him out, but this makes it sound definitive that he was asked to quit. |

Re: Zorn Fired
Zorn was fired. Plain and simple. If the organization thinks he could help with the continued improvement of the team, basically a contributor he would still be a Raven today. Obviously they thought he couldnt be. Their GM is maybe the best in the game, if not, one of the top 5...I trust what he did was not a mistake.

Re: Zorn Fired
One of the main reasons why the Ravens fired quarterbacks coach Jim Zorn was his teaching methods, according to a league source.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron spent all day Tuesday questioning Zorn about how he was coaching quarterback Joe Flacco and were concerned about Zorn being insubordinate, the source added. Harbaugh disputed this report, saying it is "inaccurate and unfair to Jim Zorn" and "in no way does it describe Jim’s relationship with the Ravens, and that includes with his fellow coaches while here and our players." But Harbaugh didn't specify any reason for Zorn's termination. "Jim’s departure from the Ravens will remain as private as these matters can be," Harbaugh said Friday, "but we feel it’s necessary to at least point out that this report is inaccurate. It is not true in any way, shape or form.” |

Re: Zorn Fired
At least this league source seems more credible than a JLC league source.
|
Re: Zorn Fired
I'm glad Harbaugh came out and poopoo'd the report because it sounds like BS. First off how in the world could Zorn be insubordinate? That seems almost comical. Second...they don't get to act surprised about his coaching methods...it's not like they weren't highly documented while he was here...JUST 30 MILES SOUTH. Cameron wanted more control and it wasn't going to work to have both. Period.

Re: Zorn Fired
So once again, Vinny Cerrato is lost in the discussion of how much he destroyed this franchise. People seem hell bent on bringing up people that were parts of his failures, such as Zorn and Jason Campbell. Honestly, anything that happens to Zorn and Campbell is not relevant Redskins news. Sure they were part of what was wrong with the team, but whether Zorn and Campbell succeed or fail elsewhere in the league shouldn't matter to the Redskins anymore and their fans.

Thats a matter of opinion Ruh. The way I see it is, By following ex Redskins, we can gain insight into what philosophies can be changed or adjusted by what is working or not working with ex Redskins. For instance, did the guy suck or was he being coached or positioned in the wrong way. If AH gets on a team that plays the 4-3, and that team allows him to play his natural position, and he dominates, well we have to consider that the next time we bring in a player like him. If any team needs to learn from it's mistakes, it's the Redskins. |

Re: Zorn Fired
Yeah, I agree. I mean you can't blame Zorn for taking the job. I work at a pretty large company, and if htey offered me the CEO job tommarow, and gauranteed me $25 million dollars over the next five years... what am I going to say, no? That was 100% on Snyder for hiring him.... I dont want to get back on Snyder because I think that might be what made him finally realize he needed to change... but I kinda liked Zorn in a way. Not for our team as the head coach...but I certainly don't wish ill will on the guy.

Hell, even if you take the money part out of the equation, Zorn does seem like a guy who is confident that he could get the job done, in his own rather original way. Zorn's a good man though and his approach does have its merit. If I wanted someone to mentor my future kids (if I have any) or someone who needs support, Zorn would be someone I'd definitely consider. But to lead a football team, he just doesn't have the right approach. |
