Yes, a franchise tackle will compliment Devin Thoma very well. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
Kicker has to be replaced
|
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
I think I got what I wanted out of today's game. Enough of a fight to make sure we're totally not deflated going into next year, but a loss that will help insure that Vinny gets thrown out and at the same time a team good enough that quality coaching candidates will consider coaching the team. A high draft position is also a nice plus.

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
Not so much a smackdown but the timing of AH's injury at the end was awful because we had to use a timeout there and we stopped the clock when the Saints couldn't have

I agree...you build on the O line pick up a kid out the draft as far as the QB position goes I think we hang on to Campbell and Brenan. Thomas and Kelly are gonna be great! 2010 looks promising for this team...I could be wrong but I keep the bingo caller on as a O.C. too. But as far as QB goes maybe not a Sam Bradford or Tim Tebow but possibly a Tony Pike, or maybe that guy from Texas...lol Give Jason some real competition at camp |

It's actually looking like Marc Bulger will be available next year. I think he would be a decent stopgap if we got rid of JC. Personally though I want to see 2 offensive lineman picked with our top 3 picks (1,2,4). I'm also starting to think that if we can get him then Mike Holmgren would be the best guy to coach this team. Sherman Lewis deserves to stay and bringing in Holmgren would help insure that he does. The only problem is we emasculated one of his pupils so how he responds to that will help determine weather or not he accepts a job here. Of course Vinny could easily be pointed to by Snyder as the fall guy. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
Negative ghostrider...we've seen how good our offense can be with a good line, and we are in desperate need of a franchise tackle. We've already used a lot of resources in the defense, and a good FO (that's the key, a good FO) should be able to find a good FS in the later rounds or free agency. However, you cannot pass up a franchise tackle like Okung.
How about a better tackle in FA than Heyer? I think that's something we can address in FA and then go second round. With our record, I think there are maybe two players in college who would put our defense as one of the best we've seen in years. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
What we need is a guy that has the strength of Orakpo as as an O linemen

Or or, how 'bout we draft a tackle in the first round and put him at RT just like what the Ravens did for Oher (and then move him to LT later on). |

The only guy with that amount of strength is Larry Allen and he's either retired or on his last legs. |

I wouldn't complain about that for sure, BUT after seeing Landry play like he did today (beast against the run, but not great against the pass) I'd love to see us get another safety to move him back to his natural position. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
So how are we feeling about Mike Williams at RG?

I thought I remember hearing a compliment there for big Mike from the broadcasters. I think overall the line played very well. |

I'm all about it. Kind of like a cheap Leonard Davis. |

Well, it was better than I thought, I guess.. No sacks and our 3rd and 4th running backs ran well.. Therefore, he performed well.. |

If we can get an extra pick in the 2nd or early 3rd, I'd go for Nate Allen out of USF can Rogers play FS? |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
I'm not claiming to be a football expert by any means, but isn't the transition to safety easy compared to DB?

I spoke on the warpath that I liked this move before when they did it and I really think he can become the starter at the RG position. |

I wasn't meaning take him in the first round with a top 10 pick. I think he'll be a late first/early to mid 2nd. |
So how are we feeling about Mike Williams at RG?
I hope Randy Thomas has a season left in those pass blocking arms.
Big Mike at Guard offers help for our pass protecting line, but if you have him and Dock at the Guards, the zone running game is completely valueless. |

Not that easy as you think.. I played CB in my first football year but then moved over to safety at second year; it was difficult for me at first, I had to learn how to read everything.. While I was CB, all I needed to do is to cover my area or stay with the man all the way - not so difficult thing to do.. |

can Rogers play FS?
Maybe Hall can? I mean, with his ball skills, maybe he'd be most valuable playing the deep middle? Perhaps he's just out of position at corner? |

Which presents us another reason not to make Portis #1 next season, we will need RBs who can make quick and shifty moves.. Take the game today as an example; I remember there were like three times or so where Cartwright or Ganther could have been taken down behind the scrimmage line but thanks to their shifty moves, they managed to make defender to miss tackles before the scrimmage line.. |

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
Right now, our biggest defensive issue is that our free safety wants to lay out anything that moves. I think Hall would be an excellent coverage free safety.
Rogers and Barnes at the corners in '10. |
I don't know how comfortable I would be with Hall playing FS with his suspect tackling skills and not to mention he's only 185 lbs.
Well, that's the flip side, but if we go back to playing the FS 25 yards off the ball, tackling ability hardly matters.
One thing I have liked about the defense without Hall is how aggressive the corner play has been. Of course, aggressive does not necessarily = better, but I miss the days when we used to be physical with receivers. Of course, a lot of that might also been because Tryon was out, so Smoot/Rogers/Westbrook pretty much have to rough up the other team's corners to be successful. |

Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
I think we will if we can't get a third round pick for him on the market.
Of course, I think there's plenty of teams that will be willing to pay that price. I also think it would be a bad trade, assuming resigning him to a long-term deal is still an option. If it's not, well, it's a good price for one year of Rogers. Of course, he will be 29 next season, so by "long-term" I mean, no more than 4 years. |
Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Saints)
Rogers (I think it was Rogers) needs to do a better job of being a blocker after Moore's INT.

That's a play that most other teams practice though. The Redskins were pretty clearly just winging it. |

Looks like "my guys" will survive the NFL attrition game for at least one more offseason. Now, about that Leftwich guy... -EDIT- Don't forget Chad Henne. |
