With it so close, some voters may say well McCoy should have won last year so let's give it to him this year, or well Tebow is one of the best players in the history of college football let's give it to him like a lifetime achievement award.
IMO Tebow got his lifetime achievement award in advance. I say please give someone else the Heisman this year.

I think Gerhart has the stats to get it and is deserving, but I also think Suh is an absolute beast and if it was truly given to the best college player he would get it.
Give it to Ndamakong Suh of Nebraska, never once have I ever seen such a dominate defensive lineman man handle oLineman like he did throughout the whole game. He picked up Colt McCoy with one hand around his neck and literally threw him to the ground. He is more dominating than either ingram or gerhart IMO
I agree. I've never seen a TACKLE as dominant as Suh at the college level. I've seen dominant LBs and even DEs, but for him to so thoroughly manhandle double and triple teams in the middle of the line is astounding.

That being said, Gerhart and Ingram are both excellent running backs, but D-Linemen as dominant as Suh are extremely rare and almost unheard of. Thus, if I had a heisman vote, it would go to Mr. Ndamukong Suh.

anyone know when the last heisman winer was a d lineman? suh is probably gonna win about 8 or 9 defensive awards this year, and no one(espn) hasn't talked about him in the heisman debate all year

The only defensive player I can think of that ever won it was Charles Woodson

I think he was the first defensive player to ever win the Heisman. At least in our lifetime.

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart

looked it up larry kelly in 36, leon hart in 48, and woodson in 97, woodson was the only true defesive player since kelly and hart both played offense and defense

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart

I thought Ingram won the Heisman while watching the SEC Champ Game. Then I watched Suh put up one of the most dominant defensive games I've ever seen. 11 tackles (for a DT), 6 tackles for a loss, and 4.5 sacks. In one game. Sheesh.

Woodson got it in '97 for a Michigan team that won a National Championship, plus he contributed in the return game. Suh should win every stinking defensive award across the board, but not the Heisman.

I think the voting will look like:

Ingram (after Tebow won it as Soph, can't use that against a guy anymore)
McCoy
Tebow
Suh
Gerhart

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart

This year there is no QB who really stands out. Gerhart has the numbers but Ingram has the exposure. Suh stands alone at his position and has been nothing short of remarkable. As GMScud said, he could win every defensive award across the board and not win the Heisman, but...I think his talent is so remarkable that the voters can't help but notice and he becomes the first defensive player since Woodson to win.

suh doesn't have "the buzz" i doubt he will even be in new york, but he had a hell of a year if nebraska had one loss then he would be in the top four.

i love the names, but nothing for mccoy?

Suh has already been announced as a finalist, as has McCoy.

I think Suh should win it but such a win would be a rarity. It is an incredible feather in Suh's cap that he even is going to New York.

thats pretty cool i really didn't think he would get the invite, he deserves it, he had a great game against texas, ithat's the only nebraska game i have seen all year besides highlights. i seriously doubt he will win though, i think it's gonna ingram, if nebraska would have finished with 2 or 3 losses then i think he would have a better chance.

If suh is still on the board when we pick I say we get him considering players as special and dominating as him only come around every few centuries

Lets be honest, not many teams in the Big 12 really have a stellar defense, McCoy looked all world until he ran into the good defenses like OU and Bo's Huskers. then many of his passes were off the mark and towards the end it looked like he was throwing up prayers. Im not impressed with Colt.

Suh wins the Heisman, its awarded to the best player for the whole season. Not 12 games like Gerhart..or 5 Games ala Colt Mcoy....

Yeah, I'm quoting myself.

Looks like Suh won basically everything he could. He won the Outland, Nagurski, Bednarik, and Lombardi awards tonight. Those are the top 4 awards any D-lineman can get outside of the Heisman. Defensive Player of the Year (x2), best lineman, and best interior lineman.

halftime of army-navy they're talking to heisman candidates

gerhart was asked if he was familiar with the comparisons to john riggins and if he even knew much about the guy.. he was like yeah, john riggins, washington redskins superbowl 17

thought that was pretty cool, even if he did just do his research well

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart

I was hoping Toby Gerhart or Ndamokung Suh would win it but congrats to Ingram for winning it anyways. Gerhart didn't have the exposure and even though I thought Suh was the most dominant defender since Woodson I doubted he would win it simply because he's a defensive tackle, one of the most unglorified positions on the field. Plus Nebraska wasn't even in BCS contention like Bama.

Re: Heisman Watch: Give It To Toby Gerhart

i really wanted gerhart to win, i think he is just as responsible for the turnaround at stanford as harbaugh is, plus the kid is a beast. and i'm glad he was as close as he was in the voting, i really thought he would get overlooked on the east coast due to him playing in the pac 10 but he was pretty close throughout the nation.

that said ingram derserved to win, he had a great year and those yards after contact stats speak for them self. during his speach my fiancee actaully teared up, it was a good one. i honestly think he has a great chance to win a second heisman, hating bama as much as i do i hope they lose every game next year, but realistically i can see him getting another heisman nod and being in serious contention next year.

side note, i know suh had a damn great last game of the season and a great saeson all together but i can't beleive he beat out colt in the south

still think i should have been
gerhart
ingram/suh
colt
tebow

Ingram is the first winner from Alabama. Congrats to him for winning and giving a very heartfelt speech! Gerhart was a very close second losing by only 28 points. On a side note, Suh has led his team in tackles 2 years straight...from the DT position. Amazing!
