Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
Average is probably the better word. Sure he's not a liability, but he's not asset either. I don't think the same can be for Cooley who knows he needs to block for Portis to open up the passing game for himself and others. I think Dainels is a good TE who can stretch the field and is probably the best run after the catch TE right now, but if you ask him to block I don't think he's as open to it as Cooley.
You think he refuses to block, or complains about it? Am I understanding you right? |
Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
SHOCKER...not. News flash, peoples top five is subjective. It usually is what that individual believes is his or hers top five...and most often it's their favorite players not based off of talent or statistics.
Also I'm betting he's making his judgement off of last yrs performance. Cooley's worst yr.
Actually last season was his best year as a Pro... he just didnt score any TD's (1), so no one noticed. |
Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
For what it's worth, here is Pete Prisco's top 10 list. Cooley is either 4th or 8th. Can't really tell:

He's going to block but he probably doesn't care about it as much as pass catching. In terms of all around talent at the TE position, I just think Cooley has an edge. |

I see. Well, I'm having a hard time seeing how you've come to that conclusion. I'm guessing you're just assuming he doesn't really care so much about blocking? |
Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
People around here need to stop looking at everything through their burgundy and gold glasses. Daniels doesn't get a lot of press but he's every bit as good as Cooley is. He doesn't make the Pro Bowl cause he's got Gates and Gonzalez in the AFC. If Cooley were in the AFC he would never get picked over those two.
Good point.
Cooley is a better blocker than really everyone gives him credit for. Two years ago, I called him the best TE in the league, based on receiving acumen and clearly improving blocking acumen. He hasn't had a receiving season quite like 2006 though, and frankly, hasn't been as valuable under Campbell as he was under Brunell. Therefore, probably not the best TE in football, and never was, though he certainly seemed like he was going to be for awhile. |
Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
Top 5:
1- Bubba Franks 2- Jerramy Stevens 3- Vernon Davis 4- Eric Johnson 5- Ben Utecht Wait, I thought we were talking about top 5 fantasy bye-week fillers... |
Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
Cooley doesn't have Manning, Rivers, Schuab, or Romo throwing to him. He does have Randle El though.

It is so annoying when the 'Skins are playing a big game against the Giants or something like that, and instead you must watch a blockbuster like the Saints-Lions simply because you are in the Saints tv area. Ugh. |

Well, Gonzalez had some dude named Thigpen throwing to him. Have no clue who he is even though he gave my fantasy team some solid production last year. |

So if you live in DC and the skins are like 4 and 8 playing the lions they should show another game? That actually happened in my area once and they switched from a skins game to another game and the station got swamped with calls and switched back to the skins. It was about 10 years ago and I'm thnking the last game of the season and the skins game ment nothing and the game they switched to the winner would make the playoffs and people still wanted to see the skins game. |

Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
I don't know exactly whom Cooley should replace, but i do known one thing for sure..and that is..COoLEY should definitely stay on the list! He's a great player man!

Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
This is one guys opinion. I don't care what Faulk thinks.
Cooley is a great player. I really like him, but some folks on this sight think Cooley's shit doesn't stink. He is a top 5 or top 7 TE in the NFL. Until the QB inconsistency's with the Redskins gets resolved, it will be hard for him to move up in the Top 5. |

It's not his fault he wasn't targeted much in the redzone. That's on Zorn. He's proven in the past he's a solid TD guy. Before last year he never had less than 6 in any single year. |
Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
I forget which interview it was, but Cooley said that Zorn promised him at least 6 TD's this year. That alone would be a boost to our ppg stat.

At the least the emphasis needs to be there on getting him the ball in the redzone. How a guy that was a 6-8 TD per year guy drops to 1 is puzzling at best. |

I totally agree. It is puzzling and Zorn bears some responsibility. IMO some of it was just (bad) luck, too. I expect that he will have more td's this year simply from the law of averages' stabilizing of things. |
Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!
So he is top 5 or not??
Despite the QB play the guy put up career highs in catches and yards last year.
Yes he is not...no he is...ummm...J/k Depends on who you ask. The TD number has become overly important in peoples minds when they rank offensive skill position players. Just like sacks now dominates as a measure for defensive lineman and linebackers. This reminds of Gerald Riggs in 1991-92 season when he was our short yardage/goal line back. Earnie Byner would bust his ass and absorb all the punishment in getting us to the 1 or 2 yard line. Then in waltzes Riggs, they hand the ball and he would fall over the goal line. Riggs had 11 TD's for the season, but he only rushed 248 yards. Yet Byner had 1048 yards rushing and had only 5 TD's. Stats can't measure toughness, run blocking, route running, shedding blocks or hustle. |
Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!

Before last year he never had less than 6 in any single year.
Well if we're rating the tight ends on a yearly basis, then yeah he could fall out of the top five if he doesn't present much of a scoring threat compared to the other tight ends. Sure, offensive scheming is a part of it, but just because he's not in some schmuck's Top Five doesn't mean he isn't a good tight end. To me, he's a good tight end. Not great, not exactly a game changer. But yes, he's good. |
