does this mean we'll be seeing more of Blades? possible the coaches were confident enough to let MW go because of what they've seen in him?
Out of curiosity, where does your undying devotion to Marcus Washington come from?
Linebacker is my favorite position in football. When it is played well, it is a thing of beauty to me. When I was teenager, it's the only position I would play in our neighborhood pick-up games. No pads, lots of blood. To see someone like Marcus play the position with such passion is something I love to watch and gets me psyched beyond belief. It is something I would have loved to do, but could never be.

Well, at least you still have Fletcher to watch. Dude plays like his blood is on fire. We'll make a move at LB in FA and/or the draft, so hopefully you'll have someone new and exciting to cheer for as well.

Well put. I'm hoping for the impossible. Resign Marcus or have Curry fall into our laps. :) Thanks man.

Damn, looks like I have yet another jersey that I'll likely never wear again. D'oh! At least I still have my #81.

Anyone want to buy a Ramsey #11/Coles #80/Bailey #24/or Washington #53 jersey?

:laughing2 I've got Arrington #56/Washington#53/Taylor#21 but I think I'll hold on to them. Other than Taylor, I probably don't have a choice. I probably couldn't give them away. :)

I cant believe what I just saw in one of the videos posted.....

OT Stephrn Heyer stoned Albert Hayensworth to let Jason Cambell step up in the pocket

great block.....Maybe he is the future at RT

I don't have nearly as much problem as some others do with Heyer. Just don't play him at LT.

Crowell, Crowder, and possibly Boley or Hagler could be viable replacements in FA.

I think he is a COMPLETE OLB who is ready for the NFL and could make an immediate impact.

Definitely one of my favorite Skins while he was here. If we were an above average team with a real shot at a Super Bowl I'd like to keep him here. But we are not. We are average at best and old. So I think this is the right move.

This was one of the best free agent acquisitions the Skins have made in a long time. MW was well worth the money the first couple years when he was a MONSTER. And when it was time to let him go it only cost us a couple mill.

Thanks for everything Marcus, best of luck in the future. I hope you catch on with another team soon... just not in our division.

Re: Updated: Redskins Release Marcus Washington

I'm soo glad the CAP goes bye bye in 2010. You see ...in the old days teams would pick players up in the draft and only occasionally get free agents. Most players were looked at as being team players. Meaning life long players. Ever since they put the CAP on things and opened up the owners pockets to get more pay either teams can't afford to keep their team players due to CAP or the player goes elsewhere looking for his pay day.

Lost was the days when you as a fan would really be upset at losing a decent player and god forbid they went to a rival. It just didn't happen or you were betrayed. Now a days losing a player is all business. Ho-hum, lets look for his replacement. I have not felt that undying loyalty to any player since what 92? Players come and go. You purchase a jersey and with in 3-4 yrs they are gone. It would be alot different if the jersey's were like $15 dollars or $20 dollars but they are like $100 or more. Unless you shop at Walmart like me. ;).

I can only hope that if anything changes, we will be able to keep "team players" and fans will be able to purchase jersey and be able to wear it longer then 3 yrs.

I'm definitely sad to see him go, but we kinda knew it was his time. His salary definitely wasn't justified anymore, but he was still a leader on the team. I really hope he ends up somewhere good and can resurrect his career, unless he decides he hates the Redskins and ends up playing for a division rival. I'm gonna miss the passion he brought to the field.

You got to play to get paid. Marcus had it coming. I want to know how we're going to replace him though. Through free agency? The draft?

My guess would be a 2nd tier type of free agent. Or who knows, maybe someone like Blades steps up and takes the job?

I don't know about Blades playing strong LB. He's too small and is probably best suited as a back-up to Fletcher. I suspect the Skins' will definitely take a linbacker or two in the draft.

He did start in MW's place last year so that's why I'm not ruling it out. We'll see.

I thought Blades did a decent job stepping in but we suffered a little against the run... not looking at any stats just going off memory.

... when it became clear Marcus would be cut i basically thought ok now we have two positions we need to fill - RT and SLB - and we should be able to seriously upgrade both through FA and the draft i.e. draft a stud at 13 for one position and take a stud in FA at the other. I still hope this is the case. It's probably likely Hill gets franchised but if not I want us to spend our FA money on him.

hes way too undersized. he only started there last year because we had no choice. i think our FO is just being "PC" by saying he has a chance.

Can we clarify this cuz i think everyone means short. Right? Blades is the heaviest LB on the squad now he's like an f'ing bowling ball w/ legs. He's short though.

The CAP is not what opened player movement, the courts/labor agreements did. Free Agency is here to stay, i don't know what happens if the cap goes away, but I don't think it will be a good thing for the league.

Re: Updated: Redskins Release Marcus Washington

Well the Redskins met with Orakpo yesterday and told him they see him as a strongside linebacker. So if he's the choice at 13 then we have MW's replacement

So for those keeping track, Redskins met with Andre Smith on Thursday and Brian Orakpo on Friday. At the Senior Bowl they met with Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews, and a couple of other people who I'm drawing a total blank on right now.

Re: Updated: Redskins Release Marcus Washington

CRedskinsrule, Well, they have said that we will see more contracts of 5-6 yrs before the drafted player can look to change teams. Teams can pay the bonus money up front and it won't count against the team and the teams will not be limited as to what they can spend. The only real big issue is going to be teams will not be able to hord all the good players. In order to sign a big name the play off teams will have to let one go. Other teams will be limited to like 2-3 players if they did not make the play offs. So I'm not saying players will not leave for money but the owner will have the availability to match other offers with out being constrained or decide to let the player go. Rookies will most likely be held for 5-6 yrs before they can jump ship.

I don't know perhaps I'm wrong in what I thought I understood. I felt the good news was owners hands will not be tied to how much they can spend and due to that maybe more players will end up staying with a team they started with. Which means your jerseys will last longer. yes or no?

I actually thought Blades problem was in pass defense as he seemed to have trouble covering tight ends when he was playing namely Witten.

Who the hell is left in FA that could help out immediately on the o-line?

I change my post b/c I noticed that SS mentioned Andre Smith (he's an OT), so the team is looking at both lines for #13. I think right now the only good player left in FA is Stacy Andrews, but he has that injury that he's rehabbing from. I don't know off the top of my head what defensive players are available in FA that could help (who we could realistically get).

I don't think so. They met with an offensive player on Thursday, a defensive player yesterday.

Well, in his defense, there aren't too many LBs in the league who can stay with Witten in man coverage.

I believe Michael Boley is a true FA and could be had but there's a ? on his head. I'm getting more and more worried about the LB situation now. I suspect Rocky will move to SLB and Taylor step in at WLB and our defense will suffer badly, badly enough that we change it again midseason. Rocky can play so mediocre at times and Taylor I totally, completely expect to mail it in regardless of where he plays for us. I've changed my mind on him, thought before he'd come out w/ a chip on his shoulder but instead i think he knows our FO isn't going to admit a mistake and cut him, so his job is safe at least for another very high paying season and he'll mail it in.

Although I believe anything can happen, I don't know about Taylor. He seems to be someone that cares about image and reputation, and I don't know if he'd be willing to have such a crappy last year in the league. I think last season could be excused b/c of his injuries, so I would hope that he would try to have a good final year before he leaves the league.

Yeah, I was just thinking the same thing. He had some dominant seasons playing for some pretty bad Dolphin teams. The guy obviously has a sense of pride, and has had a great career. I'm sure he doesn't want his legacy to be that guy who went all cutsie-hollywood and danced his way out of the NFL.
