Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Maybe he'll make the team better, but more Hall will mean less Smoot, and I'd rather lose with Smoot than win with anyone else!

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Love the move because 1. you can't have too much depth in the secondary (what happens if Rogers or Landry or Horton get injured?), 2. he's got some talent, 3. he came cheap and with no long-term consequence if he doesn't play well, and most importantly: 4. he doesn't have enough status in this locker room to be a cancer. If he starts acting up or causing problems the skins will just cut him loose and be no worse for the wear. It's not like we just married the guy by giving him a 7-year deal or giving up a 2nd round draft pick for him (see dumb-ass Oakland). If he plays well, we can talk about making it a long-term relationship (and let's face it, he knows he needs to behave because this just became a "contract year" for him). If he's a turd, he's a turd that can be flushed down the toilette with no cap consequence. Good move all around IMO.
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I just called my brother who is a Hokie, and his initial impression was "Oh no. Problem child at Tech, problem child in Atlanta, and bust in Oakland". Let's hope Hall approaches this audition as a chance to resurrect his career and to remake his current image as a bad teammate.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Well, now that it's done I just hope I'm wrong about him. :/

You would think it has to. He's a total butthole, but not as much of a joke as Pacman Jones. Even if he's selfish, you have to think that he would know his career was over if ANOTHER team cut him. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I think the reason they may have signed Hall is because they are tired of seeing Springs and Smoot get up off the field looking like Fred and Grady everytime they make a hard tackle.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
There is an interesting paragraph in this article:
ESPN - Cornerback DeAngelo Hall agrees to join Washington Redskins with one-year deal
A source close to the Redskins said Hall spoke with Redskins coach Jim Zorn and some of Zorn's assistants before accepting a contract, and that team owner Daniel Snyder met with defensive captains London Fletcher and Cornelius Griffin to gauge their opinion of the move.
This seems like a great team in terms of Management right now. I like that Danny asked the players, but seems like Hall was properly directed to Zorn. That gives me a lot more confidence in the "cancer" factor. |

I agree,I hope so to but I really hate these deals with signing a player and HOPING he changes. That's a Cowgirl trademark is'nt it? What the hell, maybe we can sign Vick too when he gets out of jail. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
great move. very low risk/ high reward. if he pans out, the skins get a very young corner to replace springs. if not, see ya later after a 7 game try out

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
Its low risk, if he is focused and healthy he's a playmaker that we can use. If he isn't, he doesn't stick out the year.
As for the #21, Matty that was pretty slick... |

The official GTripp position:
This move has the potential to be good, but more likely will hurt us or just be indifferent. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
If he plays well he'll hit the market next year and get all he can, thats why the Skins had to agree not to Franchise tag him.
Well if that happens then it would still be a win for us. I think he just wanted to leave himself some options and I don't think he will see francise tag money with any team no matter how well he plays. |

I put no stock in anything the Raiders have to say or do.....that franchise is the most disfunctional joke in the NFL. They weren't satisfied with Randy Moss's poor play and pouting either. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
i met d hall one time at a bar in norfolk on granby street. he was with the falcons at the time (i think 2005).
actually was a nice guy - not a prick or anything. |

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I can't specifically explain why but I like this move the best of James, J. Taylor, and Alexander. I've never been 100% sold on James, Taylor is in his last couple of years and we did have to give up some for him, Alexander is just a body who was very low risk but I doubt has any sort of future here.
Hall, on the other hand, is young, talented, and could be potentially be a starting defender with Rogers for years to come. He's been surrounded by chaos the past year or so, I think with some stability around him he can shine. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
what i like about this move is that he is a corner who can actually catch, one of the league leaders in interceptions since he was drafted. very low risk move
|
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
he's looking to play well the rest of this season and hit a big pay-off in free agency..
I think when we make the playoffs... we might be able to sway him away from looking for big money, our team, and team continuity as far as players go .... will be something in the back of his mind ... and this is all IF he plays well and doesnt act like a basket-case. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I like the signing, especially after I found out that we got him for $492,000. There's virtually no risk and there's potential for a big reward in this move.

I can think of at least 70 million reasons he had to play great on the field, be nice off the field and not be a cry baby little bitch, if that was the true case in Oakland. One thing that is for sure his play on the field was bad. With that being said. Thats water under the bridge. That was then this is now, he has a new chance to prove himself. He is a two time pro-bowler and there are a lot of really good players in this league that never get that honor. Maybe, he can return to form, who knows? We will find out in the next seven games how he responds. Bottom line, the Skins got this guy cheap. Not any gamble on this guy at this cost. Could just turn out to be very helpful down the stretch, we'll see. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
decent guy for cheap. like said many times no one wants to play for oakland. well see how he does. hope for the best everyone. i do know being a couple years ahead of him in deep creek i know he was a butt and he cost us the state championship. hopefully he has or will change.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
another good point is that he CHOSE to come and play here.
no doubt other teams were offering more money than us. |

If he could play up to his potential and we resigned him, we would have a great secondary for years to come. Rogers has matured this year and stepped his game up. If Hall would do that, that would be great. I hope you're right. |
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
HALL EYEBALLS LONG-TERM STAY WITH THE REDSKINS
Posted by Mike Florio on November 7, 2008, 3:19 p.m. One major factor that drove the decision of cornerback DeAngelo Hall to sign with the Redskins is the possibility of doing a long-term deal in D.C. “It’s a one-year deal for now, but we’ll work something out long-term,” Hall told Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com. “That’s why I chose them. I don’t want to hit the market in the offseason and have to move my family again this year. Per a league source, the Redskins want Hall to prove that he can be an asset in the locker room, and that he can return to past form on the field. If/when that happens, they’ll lock him up for the long haul. In the end, Hall picked the Redskins from a pool that included three other teams — the Patriots, Ravens, and Jets. The packages, we’re told, were roughly equivalent. Presumably, Hall will be the long-term replacement for Shawn Springs, who might or might not have been seen cramming a couple of duffel bags into the trunk of his car on Friday. |

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I look forward to watching Hall play for the Skins. I'm a huge VA Tech/Miami fan. Was sad when Justin Hamilton was let go, but now i can live with it. With the remaining schedule it will bye Springs some more time to get healthy and then we will be on fire!!! If only Pete Kendall could return punts!!!
|
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I'm fine with the move.. Hall is young, healthy, presumably hungry and has shown his talent in the past. Financially we're not on the hook for much and he can come in and have an impact immediately on two phases of the game-defense and special teams. The dude can fly and has great hands. Jerry Gray is probably the best DB coach in the league so with him I think Hall will get back to form. With Rogers, Hall, Smoot and Torrence at CB and Springs, Landry and Horton at S it's going to be hell on QB that face us down the stretch!
|
Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
I'm all for getting a guy when his value is the lowest, which is exactly what the Redskins have done here. No problem at all with Cerrato's move.
This is a HUGE responsibility for Blache though to be able to balance the playing time Hall thinks he deserves with the playing time that Hall actually deserves. Remember, the first time a receiver drops a pass within ten yards of him, Hall's going to feel like he's earned a $7 million raise. |

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins
regardless of what most people may think .......
we need springs at corner.. the guy is still our best corner even the way Rogers is playing .... rogers will never be the corner we need unless he can change games for us... and 99% of the time, he doesnt... last year against the saints or rams i 4get... he returned one for a td but i know everyone remembers '05 -- angainst Seattle in the playoffs.... drop'd a pick 6... and against the steelers -- dropp'd a pick 6... he will get better. but a healthy Springs > Rogers IMO. .... both and Hall > Smoot. |
