A couple things for you my friend. Sun Tzu and whole bunch of other philosophers weren't just talking to the soldiers who fight wars. They were talking about philosophies of life. I'm just applying one aspect to this game. It sounds like you need to pick up some books and give them more than a cursory/superficial look. Up until this point this thread has been respectful, but please don't tell me how or what I should think.

Pot, meet kettle.

Perhaps you should heed your own advice, given that you told Matty he shouldn't even be thinking about or discussing the possibility of losing.

Lady Brave,

Please go back and reread all my posts. I never tell Matty what or how to think. I would not presume to do so. I do express, somewhat through humor, my differing philosophy/perspective. If you read my posts as otherwise, then so be it.

Respectfully,

GMAT

It's nice that you're applying it to the game, but perhaps you can explain why you're applying it to yourself as a fan of the team?

Re: What if we lose to Dallas and don't make the playoffs?

Schneed10,

It's called free choice. As a fan, player, or someone who doesn't even care about the Skins, you can choose to believe whatever you want. I choose to believe that we will win this game and I choose not to focus on any negative thoughts (negative thoughts = title of this thread). That's all. Nothing more. Nothing less. You can agree or disagree. One more thing... just because I have a different idea on things doesn't mean I'm out to invalidate the thread. Sometimes ideas have to be challenged. I certainly don't mind mine being challenged so long as the discourse is respectful. Now let's go knock them Cowterds back to their toilet bowl of a stadium.

Respectfully,

Re: What if we lose to Dallas and don't make the playoffs?

So here's what we have thus far:

Sun Tzu war theory ("failure is not an option") is being applied to one fans perspective of a Cowboys-Redskin football game, because free speech allows it.

Philosophy is one thing (and defendable), but all philosophy by definition requires the examination of ones beliefs in order to make sure that those beliefs are realistic. Philosophy can not be the incorrect application of an irrelevant theory, followed by the refusal to reexamine. Therefore, this is not philosophy.

The key term in 'free choice' is "free."

(Wrong - that's not what I said about Sun Tzu. If I had, I would have attributed something to Sun Tzu which he did not say. Reread all the posts.)

(Not quite sure where you think you're going with this - I choose to apply some of the philosophy of Sun Tzu to my thoughts on this thread and the game. Who are you to invalidate (and with what?) anything of what I've said? Also, what's not realistic about focusing on the positive. No matter what the walk of life, there are many who choose to focus on the positive. That is their philosophy and their very success validates it.

People, this might be the last game of the season. It was a season to remember. Lets hope all turns out well but regardless of what happens, us skin fans have learned, there is always next year.

GMAT (you sound like a business school entrance exam, but whatever you want),

There's a major disconnect in your argument which you are dancing around by saying it's free choice. Essentially, you're saying you have the free choice and freedom of speech to say something that makes no sense, and people like me are free to agree or disagree.

You said that Sun Tzu taught that if you prepare, and if you know your opponent, you will win. What you have failed to explain, time and again, is how YOU can prepare and how YOU can know your opponent. You have stated, within this thread, that losing is not an option, therefore it serves no purpose to discuss it. I am challenging you, right now, to explain to me why Sun Tzu's teachings should apply to a fan discussion board, to people who don't have one iota of preparations to make or any recourse to take advantage of their knowledge of the Cowboys.

Your whole philosophy is nice, and actually very applicable to Joe Gibbs and the Redskins themselves, but you have failed time and again to explain why it should be applied to the message board. Sure, you have the free choice to say whatever you want here, and that includes the freedom to say things that make no sense and destroy any credibility you have on the site.

Likewise, we've got the freedom to call you on it.

Re: What if we lose to Dallas and don't make the playoffs?

Schneed,

I have confidence that my team is making the preparations, therefore I don't doubt we will win. I have Gibbs track record. I have their performances over the last three games. I know Dallas' personnel situation having sewn up home field already. Do I have all the information that the team has? No, but that doesn't mean I don't have enough to make up my mind with some rationality. As to my name, yeah I get your point about the acronym, but why bring that up to begin with? Why take a shot (minor though it may be)? It is unnecessary and detracts from your post. This is my last post on the matter. Think what you will. I'm going to focus on the game and not on all your negative waves, Moriarty.
