That's my point...those two really are bad about the safety of others. I've seen Stewart actually wreck someone and I was shocked no fines were given to him. He either can't drive, or he wants everyone afraid of him. |

For as much as NASCAR likes to complain about it, I think they like it that way. NASCAR has become bigger than any other sport other than Football. WHich is funny cause when someone talks about the 4 "major" sports, they talk about football, baseball, basketball and hockey. NASCAR is bigger than baseball, basketball and hockey combined. |

i'm not sure i can 100% agree with you. when you say "bigger", are you implying "more popular"? if so then i would agree nascar is bigger then hockey. nascar is fairly close to pro basketball but definately moving ahead. baseball, i would say, is still bigger then nascar though. nascar is definately gaining ground in it's popularity, there is just still to many people out there that love baseball, plus baseball gets more exposure on espn and other sports stations. |
Re: Disgusting display at Talladega!!!
It's hysterical how Stewart haters constantly say how wreckless he is, or how much of a whiner he is. He's portrayed as a bad boy, so naturally any time he goes on a tangent, he's gonna get air time. And while a lot of times he's just full of piss and wind, there are times where he has valid points.
And he's no more wreckless than anyone else out there. There have been plenty of times where 2 guys are duking it out for first place, when one spins out the other. It's not just Stewart...and while I don't condone some of his actions, don't make him out to be the scapegoat. Can you tell I'm a Stewart fan? And while I can't stand Gordon, he's a helluva driver. He didn't deserve his beer can shower...but it's funny and definitely not surprising. That's just how passionate #3 fans are. |

Those weren't my opinions..it was an article either ESPN did or SI. (Can't remember which one). The only sport bigger is football. You talk about exposure...you do realize that EVERY NASCAR event is televised right? |

Sorry man, I didn't perceive the Philadelphia fans as "passionate" when they threw batteries at J.D.Drew, or any sport, at any time when someone threw something at another athlete / person. It's not passion, it's stupidity. Maybe I am a little more sensitive than others cause I played college sports, and had an incident of this, but let me tell you, there aren't many things moe scary than a barage of crap being thrown at you from wild fans. It's unacceptable in any fashion. If you don't like what's going on, then get off your fat ass and do something about it ON THE FIELD AS A COMPETITOR. You are only a spectator, and you are there to spectate...ie:WATCH. It was a disgusting display, and I'm sure JR is shaking his head at these rubes. |

I say most, because you will have those boneheaded that will never admit they are wrong. But, not even Richard Petty has fans as dedicated and loyal as Dale Earnhardt fans are. They are in a class amongst themselves, and from their display on Sunday, that isn't much class at this moment. However, it's quite easy for any fan to get swept up in the moment. And while you said you are perhaps more sensitive from being in a situation similar to Gordon, put yourself in the shoes of a irate fan for just a second. why is soccer a huge company priority ? is there really a true soccer audience? if there was it would seem espn would air those games and not to mention at a different time slot. how many people do you think are sitting down at the tv watching soccer at 3:30 in the afternoon ? i'm not trying to rag on you or rag on espn but it just doesn't make sense to me. |

This would be a long and potentially boring post. If you're really really interested I'll PM you. But there are a lot of factors as to why it's a huge company priority, why we air games plus support programming, why we have some soccer in the afternoon, etc. |

I used to have season tickets to the Red Sox (my brother owns them now) and there have been plenty of occasions where someone could have gotten something thrown at them, but no one did. Why? Re: Disgusting display at Talladega!!!
Crazy Earnhardt fans. I don't like the Jeffrosexual, but geesh, people...get over it...he's gone. Ol' Dale won most of his races dirty by shoving people into walls. None of today's drivers: Gordon, Stewart even drunken Michael Waltrip are anywhere near as dirty as Earnhardt was. I can't stand Gordon, but he's won at every level of racing since he was a kid, he does have talent underneath that hair gel.
I was a BIG Bill Elliott fan back in the day...there's a classy driver (also holds the record for fastest lap ever @ 212.8 MPH and it will stand forever because of restrictor plates). I can't change my opinions about someone just because they die...it would be dishonest. |

Of course. I don't know what your programming is on the east coast anymore! haha. Honestly, I like ESPN 2, it has good programming...but do me a favor, instead of playing some obscure baseball games, or the Yankees, play more Red Sox games. I've also seen them televise the Braves when they are already on TBS. |
Re: Disgusting display at Talladega!!!
Oh I forgot...and the Cubs when they are WGN.
The country is in love with the Red Sox...give em what they want! :D |
Re: Disgusting display at Talladega!!!
Fans that throw stuff on the field of play are criminals.
If you throw an object "from" a moving vehicle you get in trouble. If you throw a projectile at a moving automobile you get in trouble. Sorry for being old school but it's a no brainer. Don't throw beer bottles at NASCARS Don't throw beer bottles at NFL Football Games Don't throw beer bottles at BBQ Competition Teams WTF? What if it was ok to throw beer bootles at me and my Team cus another team hated me? Ack! peace and no bottle throwing |

Re: Disgusting display at Talladega!!!
"Talladega Superspeedway has permanently banned 14 fans from buying tickets at the speedway following their arrests Sunday for throwing objects on the track after Jeff Gordon's victory in the Aaron's 499.
The fans were charged with disorderly conduct Sunday and posted bond at the track's jail facilities, Talladega County Sheriff Jerry Studdard said. Track officials can't prevent the 14 fans from buying tickets through a third party." WTF! They can't by tickets? Who cares? They can still attend the race. Why don't the track officials just ban there stupid asses from the track for life? I had a friend who ran onto the field at an Angels game in High School and he was banned from Anaheim stadium for life. Who cares about buying the tickets? They’ll just get uncle Billy bob to buy them next year. |

you would be shocked how many closet soccer fans there are. They usually dont talk about it 24/7 because they feel people will bash them, etc. For example I was watching the Liverpool game yesterday at our Game Room, I expected about 10 people to be there. Over 70 people showed up for that game! Today is gonna be the Man U game, and I doubt ill be able to watch it there because I am assuming 100s will want to watch that. Plus its on ESPN 2, not usually on ESPN unless it is a US game or something. They also do not show the majority of games, but since the UEFA championships are going on, that is why its on. There are soccer fans man, hey you might even be a fan. You just dont know it. Haha, come on SmootSmack, give me my props for that^^. I remember your guys advertising slogans. I love the new MLS ad campaign btw. Also like the NASCAR ads too, with everyone in driving school. Good stuff. |
Re: Disgusting display at Talladega!!!
My buddy is a die hard Liverpool fan, so he was calling me with updates on my drive home, and I got home in time for the Penalty Kicks. Reina is the man. I'm a Manchester United fan, so once a year, we get together at my house to watch the match live (either Fox Soccer Channel or PPV). Guinness, bacon and eggs, and football. Makes for a great morning.
So I definitely have interest in the match today. I had to watch the replay on ESPN Classic last week. I erupted when Rooney hit that shot in Extra Time to clinch it 3-2. But there was nothing better than watching them put 7 up on Roma. So yeah I watch football...you want to fight about it? ;) |

yea, i agree with that 100%. i'm well aware of the passion people have for soccer all over the world, i just don't see it around here. maybe it's just the company i keep, i have met like 2 people over the age of 5 that was a fan of soccer. here in va. beach the city built this really nice soccer stadium. it was built a while ago when playing soccer was really becoming popular among the young kids. the beach even had it's own soccer team, the sharks or something like that, well, attendance never lived up to expectations and now the team is on it's way out and the city is trying to figure out what to do with the stadium. hockey is a sport that is struggling right now with it's popularity but i'll tell you what, around this area hockey is leaps and bounds ahead of soccer when it comes to popularity. like i said though, maybe it's just the company i keep or maybe it's just the area i live in. |
