Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
I agree with eveyone needing to turn it around, Matty. But I think his lack luster performance has magnified all the other issues going on with the offense.
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
It's the inevitable fate of the QB position to be in the spotlight, good or bad. I mean look at it this way, the offensive line is playing awful right now and everyone is saying Brunell totally sucks and it's pretty much all on him. Super Bowl XXII the offense line played amazingly, but it's all about look how great Doug Williams played, look how great he is. Well sure Brunell hasn't played well and Williams played great, but doesn't paint the whole picture
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
This is a good thread, cause as someone mentioned, Brunell may retire after this year. JC will be our guy, but we'll need more vet backup than Collins.
What about B. Volek? If he can keep his mouth shut, he's a good backup. Not sure if he's signed to a long deal in SD. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
Don't get me wrong, Brunell's play does not absolve the rest of the offense. Because I think they could playing better too. Mark's performance...even when he has decent protection, we're not moving the chains. That's all I'm saying.
All things being equal, I can't think of any plays, so far, that Brunell was the difference maker. Okay, do you guys remember last year when Brunell got pressured and there were runninging lanes, more often than not he scrambled to get clutch first downs. Against the Vikings this year in a similiar situation, he almost ran out of gas before he got to the sideline. |

My opinion is it's the other way around. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
This thread wasnt started to jump the gun, its not that bad of a question in my opinion.
Thank about it guys, two years ago Brunell was HORRIBLE, and we all wanted Ramsey to start next year, but he looked horrible when he was but it too. So we went from having the "QB of the future" in Ramsey, to nothing. Go back even farther, when Ramsey was the "QB of the future" and we went out and got Brunell. We're Redskins fans...weird shit happens. All of us know Gibbs prefers to win with vetern QBs. So if he cuts Brunell, theres a 99% chance he bring in a vetern to "compete with Jason, but Jason is our guy", just like he said with Ramsey. So, this thread assumes Brunell sucks, and then Campbell comes in and doesnt look like an NFL QB....So my guess is we do not draft a QB, even if we have the first pick. We would get a vet, and draft dline or CB. Matt Shaub is an option but I think he'll be overhyped and expensive (not that Synder cares about either of those things). I think Kurt Warner will probably be aviable because they wont pay him, they'll want to hand off the reigns to Leinert. Charlie Batch will probably be available. Brian Griese will be available, and istn a bad option. He could start right now but they want their young guy in there. Jake Plummer will probably be available... Either Losman or Holcome will be available...
Right on. Couldn't have said it better myself. Seeing those options doesn't exactly make me want to get another qb. I guess we really are stuck with brunell and campbell for better or worse. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
Campbell is up to a 91 in my Madden franchise so don't worry, he's going to be great. If it happens in Madden it's gotta be true. ;)
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
So if Brunell decides to kick it up a notch...will you guys apologize to him??
No. 1- Not for what he's getting paid. 2- He is in charge of one damn talented team, super bowl caliber if you ask me, so if he does turn it around, he needs to apologize to us for his poor performance, he's a seasoned vet. 3- No matter what, even if he does turn it around, he has one good year left in that aging body at best. I just hope he is tutoring Campbell. Campbell will likely be our best hope for a super bowl. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
You know what's sorry? Rex Grossman's sorry excuse for manicured eyebrows. He needs to go to a REAL salon and have that done, he's got the money.
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
I dont know...Notre Dame QB's have a pretty great track record in the NFL.
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
Eh? In context, are you saying that Brady Quinn should have HIS eyebrows manicured as well?
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
Oh, so you think he's pretty eh? Do you want to "rape" him in the "shower"?

Now that's funny! Oddly enough, in my madden, he got one of those stock plummeting monikers. The one when you were a first round pick and didn't live up to the expectations. So of course, I made myself a 19 year old 6' 8" 240 pound lefty QB with 99's across the board. Like looking into a mirror! (of course, I'm 31 5'10" in shoes, and acurately 235-240 pounds...but hey, I am a lefty! ;) You guys might actually remember me from a long time ago. I was here before we switched over to this server. After my daughter's death, I stopped visiting the site as much. Istopped doing alot of things, but always found comfort every Sunday in watching my beloved Skins. Been a fan for the last 27 seasons and counting. |

Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
next year available QB's:
Matt Schaub, Marques Tuiasosopo Marc Bulger Kerry Collins Tim Rattey, Chris Simms, Jeff Garcia, Brooks Bollinger, and possible releases due to contracts or going with a new QB Jake Plummer, Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, Aaron Brooks, Billy Volek - he wants to be a starter Joey Harrington David Garrard - is possible trade bait, thats who have 1 year left on their contract unless they signed an extention |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
I'd want Matt Schaub, but you KNOW he's going to be a big commodity.
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
How so?
We have had one constant issue since our previous super bowls...lack of a decent QB.
It's funny though...two of those QBs since playing for us took their team to the Super Bowl, and one of them won it (and was the MVP if I'm not mistaken.) |

I can only think of 5 Notre Dame QBs. Theismann, Montana, Pawlus, Mirer, and Tony Rice (I think that was his name). Beyond the first two, I don't know how great a track record that really is. I'm probably missing a bunch of QBs though |

Thanks. I figured you of all people would remember me. You're pretty much the only one I remember from this site and was wondering how you were doing as well. I'm doing fine. I still live in this hell hole called Carlsbad, New Mexico. I've been trying to get out for at least 4 years. Just can't find my wife a job at all. I did change my career last year, I now manage a Chili's restaurant. Quite a change for a guy with an MBA in finance and working in the banks. I'm not sure I made the right choice. But that's what life is all about...taking chances and learning from mistakes. Due to my career choice, I can't be online a lot, but I do visit this site about once a day now. I missed the Redskins talk. |

Yeah, it was and still is rough stuff. My wife almost died through the whole ordeal too. She still has some issues left over from then, but she's almost back to where she was. That's life I guess. Either you dwell on it and let it run your life, or you move forward. Thanks, it's good to be back! |

Well, we got Rich Gannon before he "got it". I think we all remember saying "what?" after we got rid of Trent Green, then the next day we picked up Brad Johnson. Johnson had a hell of a season and was run out of town when Snyder was in his "no patience" phase. Luckily, Snyder has come out of that. My wife still gives me a hard time about Johnson. When he first came on the scene in Washington I said he would win a super bowl. I was right, but wrong team. Alrighty guys, see you tomorrow, it's off to work. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
Matt Shaub, UFA, Atl. Falcons
Chris Simms, UFA, Tampa Bucs I am suprised to see Simms have such a horrible start to this year. During the end of last season I think he showed good leadership and made good decisions, even his poor choice to scramble against us and wave on one of our guys to taunt that he is up to the fight. That was about as stupid as Matt Hasselback at the coin toss in overtime saying we want the ball, were are going to win-then his first pass is picked off and sent for a TD. Simms I think will develop into a fine quarterback. Schaub I dont know, Atl is such an odd group to judge, I never have my fingered on where the talent on that team is, defensively they are stacked but the passing game only was working it seemed with Schaub in there. On a side question how the hell can Atlanta be so successful in their run game???? We need some of that. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
I tell you who is my favorite QB in the league is :NY Giants Lorenzen, I think he is 6'5" 280, all fat, but has a canon of an arm. Its just an inspiration to see a guy built like a Fridge repairman that hangs out at the bar all night be a QB in the league.
In the Madden game he is the 2nd lowest QB of all the league. Once again my eye for talent is validated. Its a gift. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
We trade our first round pick for Kurt Warner. This is the Redskins we are talking about!:)
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
lol - good one!
Thanks! Nobody on that list jumps out at me. Simms I think had a flukey year last year (and it wasn't that great), King had one decent year, but that was with the Bucs like 7 years ago, Ramsey we know is out. I think Rattay never got a true shot in SF (he had a couple of half-seasons), so he might be interesting to check out. Didn't Wright miss a couple of seasons entirely? I don't know about the rest - is anyone a prospect?
shaub jumps out if you know NFL football well |
this thread is lame. Campbell is the future for at least the next 2 seasons. Administrators you should lock this thing up.
I agree that Campbell is the future and we are unlikely to bring in/trade for a high-priced quarterback. I also think it's way too early to start discussing next offseason's moves. That said, this thread has elicited enough interest to draw a lot of replies so it's apparently worth keeping open. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
if we go get someone else, and its not just a back up role...then this organization is run by a bunch of idiots
I am inclined to agree with your assesment, based on all the investment in JC it wouldn't seem logical the team would be looking for anything in a QB that was not of the back-up variety. At some point we must see what Campbell can do, and we can't just dismiss him without giving him that opportunity. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
I also think it's way too early to start discussing next offseason's moves.
What? Come on, we as Redskins fans always analyze and over analyze every little detail. We are also some of the most well informed fans in all the country, we get that way by thinking ahead, even if the team we loves does not. However, I do guarantee that someone in the Redskins orginization has asked the exact same question I have posed. |

The ones who make it...make it big. Only Theismann and Montana were even concidered NFL prospects as far as I can remember(so 2 out of 2 were GREAT...thats a 100% track record)...next year Quinn will join them...how did the first two work out? No other ND QB's were looked at as NFL prospects. Quinn will be a star in the NFL because he has all the tools and has been running an NFL Offense the past two seasons playing for an established NFL Offensive Guru. He may come into the NFL more ready to go than any QB ever IMO. Remember Charlie Weis groomed Tom Brady...how did that work out? I want Campbell to succeed foresure, I think he will and doubt we'll ever get anywhere near drafting Quinn because Quinn will go top 5 but Quinn will make an impact IMO and it wont take three years to happen. |
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
has anyone even mentioned using Randel El at QB?
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
yeah, but that's stupid cause he doesn't have the arm strength or experience as a starting QB. he's great on trick plays cause he has time and a guy that's generally open by a mile.
|
Re: Who is available next year (qb)?
Wow, ARE as qb??? That's reaching, so might as well call Tom Tupa back for an audition. haha
Well, I think we can all agree Brunell has, at best, this season left, then it's Campbells job. If Campbell stinks up the place this year, then I would still like to see us go get a great qb via trade. (no FA's look good enough to take a chance on over Campbells potential IMO). |
