WOW. That's really bad.
I think the answer is fairly simple ... he does not want to play here.
Seems he does according to the WP:

Former Redskins running back Stephen Davis, a free agent who has suffered through serious injuries in recent years, is shopping his services around the NFL and contacted the Redskins, team officials said. Washington expressed no immediate interest, and he visited Philadelphia yesterday.
Davis, once the franchise's single-season rushing leader, was released by Carolina in the offseason and was expected by some to retire. The Redskins appear comfortable with their running backs, and signed rookie free agent A.J. Harris last week.
12 Rushing TDs last year and zero fumbles lost? A liabillity?
1444 yards rushing; 14 TDs; and zero fumbles lost in 2003? A liability?
Not sure I see any support for that statement.
He lost AT LEAST 1 fumble in 2003, cause he fumbled & lost one against us. We then drove the ball to the 1 & then Rock fumbled so it evened out.
He has a history of fumbling, which he never got under control. I like SD & would be glad to see him back, but I think Gibbs' main concern would be his fumbling, in addition to his age, health.

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis

If we were really looking for another back, go all out and make a trade for Duckett (they are looking for a pick, and we give those away anyways). That being said, we will be fine.

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis

Why not bring them all back Heath Shuler, Michael Westbrook, and Steven Davis. I smell Super Bowl. Then let them all fight it out in practice

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis

Whatever interest there was before may be gone now that they watched Sellars run the ball. To me, that was a nice bright spot in a black sky of poor execution.

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis

I think there are greater needs that should be addressed first(such as our kicking game) before even considering the return of #48.

Three words guys: Mike Sellers (Meast)

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis

# 48 was great in his prime. But that was at least 3 years ago. That said. If he wants to sign for cheap. He could still be a great goal line short yardage type back. Kind of like Gerald Riggs used to be. I for one would be happy to take him back.

Just going off NFL.com's stats. Either way, the way most guys are talking around here, the guy's 1 week away from needing a walker. Hard to imagine a guy could go from 12 TDs to completely useless in a few months time. The way I see it, we don't have anyone on the roster better at punching it in the endzone from a few yards out than Davis. Not saying we should actually sign him, but it's a little tough for me to buy that the guy has no value, or worse, that he's a liability.

We have enough injured backs.

St. Louis Rams

Yeah, several sources are stating that the rams have made Stephen Davis an offer. If he accepts, if its for peanuts, if it requires a physical, if they will let him use a scooter instead of his knees, who knows.

Lord knows this is a new rams team...the greatest show on turf...not so much. Guess the high flying float like a butterfly and pray you make it to the endzone before you get stung days are over in St. Louis. Steven Jackson and Stephen Davis in the backfield, those would be two horses.

Odd as it sounds, the Rams are going to be more of a smashmouth type team this year. Jackson is finally going to be turned loose.

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis

Lets not live in the past folks......move forward....the 'Skins do not need another running back anyway.

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis

Davis is a capable back when healthy, but we have somehow acquired TJ Duckett. This is a HUGE pickup. Duckett is a healthy former number 1 pick who's only 25 and hasn't played and been beat on constantly because of backing up Warrick Dunn. I stand behind Skins on this move. Can't wait to see something at tonight's game! GO SKINS!!!

He won't be coming back, at least not this season. He just signed a one-year deal with the Rams.

Re: Bring back Stephen Davis

no one loved stephen davis more than me while he was here, (even after the westbrook beating) but that was a looooong time ago. stephen davis belongs in our fond memories, not on the field in any major way.
