Bummer.
I met him at a sporting goods store in Leesburg when he was still playing.
I have his autograph somewhere.

[quote=SmootSmack;968362]Tragic. The Jack Pardee coaching era is one I always wanted to know more about. Can some of you old timers fill us in. What was it really like then?

Interesting article about his firing. I had no idea Dan Reeves was a possible HC. candidate here

Very sad to hear, Always liked Pardee . Member of the Over The Hill Gang . I actually remember the possible coaches , me being Mr. know it all back then , did not want Reeves ..... or " pass happy Gibbs " . Wishing the best for Coach Pardee and his family.

He was also the guy who suffered a heat stroke under Paul Bear Bryant at Texas A&M. In fact they mentioned on 980 the other day that it was chronicled on that ESPN movie with Tom Berenger "Junction Boys." The part where they had to take him to the doctor and cover his body in ice, apparently that was suppose to be Jack Pardee but I haven't watched that movie in years so I'm not sure.

There had to be a lot of backlash against a former Cowboy in Reeves possibly being the Redskins HC. No?

Sad to hear. But I will say, the article had one thing that leapt off the page to me: "Pardee's firing came 15 days after the Redskins finished the season with a 6-10 record, the team's worst in 17 years. Pardee was 24-24 in three years as the Redskin head coach."

6-10 was the worst in 17 years (in 1981). Whoa. I have been a fan since about 1974, and I have always been nostalgic about my early years as a fan. And now I recall why.

Norv Turner

I had not heard about this until reading it online the same day as this thread started. I emailed the link to several of his long term teammates who were unaware of his illness until then.

I do remember many not wanting a " cowboy " to coach the B & G . I was only 14 at the time , so I can't recall many details . We got the right guy , J Gibbs was much better than I would have believed !!
