Re: Super Lin-tendo!
I mean on one hand it is so over the top offensive that it couldn't possibly have been done on purpose because no one could be so stupid to think it was a good idea. On the other how then did it get past the editing process?

Re: Super Lin-tendo!
I believe, with reason, ESPN often gets unnecessarily criticized. But this was certainly indefensible.

ESPN statement on offensive Jeremy Lin comments - ESPN
At ESPN we are aware of three offensive and inappropriate comments made on ESPN outlets during our coverage of Jeremy Lin. Saturday we apologized for two references. We have since learned of a similar reference Friday on ESPN Radio New York. The incidents were separate and different. We have engaged in a thorough review of all three and have taken the following action: • The ESPN employee responsible for our Mobile headline has been dismissed. • The ESPNEWS anchor has been suspended for 30 days. • The radio commentator is not an ESPN employee. We again apologize, especially to Mr. Lin. His accomplishments are a source of great pride to the Asian-American community, including the Asian-American employees at ESPN. Through self-examination, improved editorial practices and controls, and response to constructive criticism, we will be better in the future.
All appropriate steps IMO. Who was the ESPNN anchor though? |
Re: Super Lin-tendo!
Max Bretos
Wonder who the editor was though |
Re: Super Lin-tendo!
Meanwhile Lin drops 28pts, 14ast, 5stl in a victory over the defending champs on national TV.
Lin your face ESPN! |

Super Lin-tendo Sega Genesis,

Re: Super Lin-tendo!
It should be noted that the editor has claimed it was a honest mistake and it looks like most people believe him. Perhaps he was so not-racist that he was mistaken for being racist. I guess you have to think like a racist now-a-days to not be a racist. If it was truly accidental i dont think he should have been fired. At the end of the day he is an editor and he should know that stuff, but with so much PCness out there people are going to make unintentional mistakes.
The former ESPN employee, Anthony Frederico, responsible for publishing the offensive headline spoke with the Daily News, both to apologize for any harm done but also to claim that he had not used the phrase with any racial motivation. This had nothing to do with me being cute or punny," Anthony Federico told the Daily News. "I'm so sorry that I offended people. I'm so sorry if I offended Jeremy." Frederico claimed to the Daily News that his choice of the oft-used sports cliche was an "honest mistake" and not intended to make light of a racial slur used against Asians.
ESPN Jeremy Lin Headline: Fired Employee Claims No Racism Was Intended Also Deadspin has a article on the actual racist things people have said in response to Lin's success.
The NBA is fake? I don't follow.
I agree with mredskins. Obviously its real athletic competition but the NBA is about as entertainment oriented as a sport can get, before falling into a different category. I love basketball and can watch college all day. I can watch classic NBA games. I can watch olympic basketball. I cant watch NBA. |
