So what do they do with Campbell and Pryor? Campbell is out for sure after this. Probably Minni or Tennesee

good for cincy. i got a soft spot in my heart for fans and cities like cincy, cleveland, buffalo detroit.

i didnt even know oakland had any 1st round picks left for 2012 or 2013. wish we had gotten some. i swear, the one and only time oakland played hard ball with draft picks was us with JC. whad we get a conditional 6th rounder or something for a guy to be their starting qb.

Damn. Even cincy is fleecing teams for draft picks now. No f'n way palmer is worth 2 firsts.

I can see the Raiders FO war room, big board room table with a conference call line in the middle and a weegie board sitting right next to it. Coaches spelling out..."make tha trade"

I also want to say wow, Oakland got ripped off big time!

Does anyone know if JC was under contract after this year, can they at least try and trade him next year?

Are we sure Al Davis really is dead??!!!! Two first rounders for a QB who has not had a really good year since like 2005? The guy threw 20 picks last year....wish we could trade something to the raiders.

This is a move the Raiders needed to make. Yes, it's steep but with the level of talent, the Jackson connection Palmer will thrive in this offense. The Raiders are now in serious contention for the AFC crown. Laugh all you want, this move will pan out.

Believe or not, I think this was a pricey good move for the Raiders. Risky as hell if Palmer doesn't work out though, but it could make them contenders for the next season or two. They have a great running game, young fast talented receivers, and a very solid defense. I guess they don't want to lose the momentum and having a winning season with a playoff appearance would be huge for the organization.

Sucks for JC, but I think he may have improved his stock for a trade, at least to be a solid back up. If Palmer works out, the Raiders are going to be tough to beat.

Re: Carson Palmer to Oakland Raiders for 1st/2012

A couple things:

Carson Palmer is still really, really good. The Raiders are the favorite in the AFC West. They have three divisional games coming up. If Hue Jackson thought he could win 2/3 with Kyle Boller, I'm sure he would have gone that route.

I thought the surplus value of Palmer's contract (through 2014) was at roughly the value of a first round pick. So the Raiders overpaid here because they were desperate. He's not worth a first round plus, though he is worth a first rounder.

The bigger issue here is that he cost a first rounder in a draft that could have solved the QB need for the next ten years instead of three. But hey, the starting QB is hurt and flags fly forever. If the Raiders go deep in the playoffs in 2011, it's a good deal. If they don't, then they probably had better options available.

Exactly how many trades in the past 20 years have involved one team's exchange of two first rounders? Did the infamous Walker-to-the-Vikings trade include two firsts? Are there others? I'd say there may be five or six players in the league worthy of two firsts. Palmer isn't a player I would include on that list.

Well, if this guarantees more long-term Raider ineptitude, I'm all for it.

Number two, if/when Palmer proves that, Campbell becomes the prize jewel of the free agent class in 2012. He can go wherever he wants.

The Raiders are still the Raiders. Palmer has been a huge disappointment the last few years and he's never been the same since that knee injury. Now with 2 number ones Cincy has set themselves up for a bright future. Major props to the worst owner in the NFL, Mike Brown. Can't believe they're 4-2 this year!!!

Mike Brown is still a dumba$$. He got lucky that a major injury gave him this opportunity. If Campbell doesn't get hurt, Palmer sits for a whole season and loses any trade value. Hopefully they won't F things up and build a solid team around Dalton.
