Blanche: If your corners are playing 15 yds off the ball, and the 4 D lineman can't get any pressure, you are in deep sh*t. It is fairly obvious that a rookie quarterback should be pressured into making mistakes, well at least myself ant 31 other defensive coordinators in the NFL beleive that.

The final play. 8 seconds left, one of the 3 who touched it could have gotten out of bounds with 1-2 seconds left for another shot downfield. Zorn got too fancy calling a hook and ladder when the Lions gave them a cushion to get 2 plays done in those 8 seconds.
I have only ever seen that play work once. During a 2001 Virginia-Georgia Tech game and UVa pulled out the win with a Billy McMullen to Alvin Pearman hook-and-lateral. That was sweet. I was actually in the coaches box for the game and heard Bill Musgrave call it and thought, "that play never works." And then it did.

I'd say they did not have much of a chance at that point, but then Brett Favre had to go and complete that pass yesterday and make the impossible seem possible. Zorn really must hate Jason Campbell, he won't even let the guy go down swinging. Man, now you really have me hating that play call .... just another thing to be pissed at Zorn about and I hadn't even thought of that one until you mentioned it. Thanks a lot! :)

I'm not going to smack down any strategies, although I think some of them were flawed.

The real problem isn't with x's and o's. The problem is that we have no heart. No guts. No one shows up to play the game. The players have all of the intensity that I have while strolling through the park.

Perhaps this reality will change but at this point the coaches suck because they do not motivate the players and the players suck because they do not play with more self-motivated pride. Changing x's and o's won't change this.

Foolishly I said that I would change my avatar to a Cowboys one for a week if we lost to the Lions.

The avatar change just completes the utter humiliation I feel today.

(To be honest though, I'm not really one of those "blame everything on Snyder" guys, but we don't have a Vinny-Drunk-At-The-Wheel-Driving-Us-Straight-To-Hell avatars. Yet.)

Re: Smoot Lays the Smackdown (SEPT 28)

I had jury duty today and was dismissed early so I had a chance to watch the Redskins-Lions shortcut. A couple of observations after re-watching.

Campbell actually played well in the first half. He was making quick decisions and getting the ball out right at the end of his drop. He played with good timing and rhythm. That completely changed in the 2nd half. Part of that was a product of pressure, but not all. His INT did come when there was a free rusher because Heyer blocked down to help Rinehart, which they started doing more frequently in the 2nd half. Apart from the TD to Moss, Campbell did not make any plays in the 2nd half. He was hurried, his mechanics broke down, and he played with no timing and rhythm whatsoever. He became "Captain Checkdown." It is impossible to see how the routes developed down field without the coaches tape, but he was checking down every play there in the 2nd half. As I said, he actually played well in the first half, but apparently the Lions adjusted and the Redskins did not. The reason I left the game feeling he played so poorly was because he did play so poorly, at least in the 2nd half.

The Defensive Line got completely owned the entire game. You could tell just from watching or looking at the stat sheet that the Lions were able to run the ball, but their line completely dominated the Redskins in both the run and pass games. Considering that one of the big weaknesses of that Lions team was supposed to be their lines, that is completely embarrassing. Complete domination.

It stinks. Even Rush Limbaugh is bad mouthing our team now. This is low.

Maurice Morris - I hate that guy. He always manages to perform his magic against the 'Skins...
