Re: Redskins BEST EVER Poll Series #2: Safety
Emotional pick or not, it's ST for me.
If he hadn't died, I don't think there's any question we're talking about one of the top players at any position the Skins have had, and probably a future Hall of Famer. |

houston might deserve it but I can't vote away from ST

I hate to be selfish and make this about football, but we lost one hell of a player. I still remember when I heard that he got shot in the leg, just wondering if he'd be able to play the next year.. not ever, not that he'd lose his life, none of that. |
Re: Redskins BEST EVER Poll Series #2: Safety
Sean only played for four seasons. He was probably the greatest prospect at the position in the history of the franchise, but that's not what the question was asking. So I went with Ken Houston, who I don't know much about, other than he once played safety for the Redskins, and is in the Hall of Fame.

Re: Redskins BEST EVER Poll Series #2: Safety
You know part of me says ST, part of me says Mark Murphy cause I grew up watching him play and help the Skins in their SB yrs. I had no knowledge of the others and actually took the time to look them up as well as their stats. Each one almost has a different compilation of stats. After looking at all their stats I had to go with Krause, and I don't even know him. Then I see I'm the only one who did. lol.
81 interceptions for 1,185 and 3 TD's seemed impressive to me. Introduced into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998. Went to the Pro Bowl 8 times. I don't know ....I just felt the man needed some sort of accolade for his hard work. |
Re: Redskins BEST EVER Poll Series #2: Safety
Mr. Taylor was the perfect man for the safety position . Ken Houston was the perfect football player , maybe only second to R. Lott ? We had two amazing young men to play safety for us ,,,, Landry may be All Pro very soon . R.I.P. 21 .

Re: Redskins BEST EVER Poll Series #2: Safety
This one seemed hard for me. I've always considered Ken Houston the best safety to ever play, including Ronnie Lott. The play where he literally held Walt Garrison from crossing the goal line by himself, was one of the greatest plays I've ever seen. Then there's Sean Taylor. There is no doubt in my mind that Sean was well on his way to being the greatest safety to ever play the game, hands down. His intimidation alone was a defensive weapon that caused concern before a receiver even ran his route. He caused mental disruption before the play was even executed. He brought what every defensive player hopes to bring to an offense....FEAR. His talent was beyond compare and his desire and work ethic were every coaches dream. Through no fault of his own, someone took his life. I will take nothing else from this young man who brought more excitement and awe to me, than any player I've ever had the pleasure of watching in my life. Sean Taylor gets my vote.
I go with Sean Taylor not only because of what he did in a short time for The Washington Redskins, but also the position the combination of size and speed is incredible and I haven't seen anything like him since,[B] sounds like the same description they use for Lebron James[B], I think he would have been the best to ever play the position ( of course I'm a little biased).
I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks like that. I thought of ST like Lebron in basketball, and he was going to be the best safety in the game which we saw in '07. He would've redefined the safety position just like Lebron has redefined basketball. RIP ST 21 |
Re: Redskins BEST EVER Poll Series #2: Safety
Losing Sean Taylor was like losing a family member for me. I think he was on his way to becoming a great player, teammate, and person. He had some bumps in the road in the beginning but he was turning the corner when he was suddenly taken away. Sean was the 3rd best Safety in the NFL behind Ed Reed and Troy P. I have been watching the Redskins since 1972 and Ken Houston is 1 of the Greatest players in his ERA. So it's has to be Ken Houston 1st then Sean Taylor 2nd. I was looking forward to watch the dynamic dual ( Taylor and Landry) for years to come. RIP Sean.....

Re: Redskins BEST EVER Poll Series #2: Safety
Ken Houston was great...the problem with these polls is people only can appreciate what they have seen or remember...the most recent memory is always skewed.
Sean Taylor was really good...but objectively he did not reach the consistant long term level of Houston...I know that is not fair...but to me, it is true. Ken Houston was great....for a long time....Sean Taylor was great for a year or 2 and was good with high potential for 1 or 2 |
Re: Redskins BEST EVER Poll Series #2: Safety
Ken Houston. Unequivocally...
