NFL - NFL offseason winners, losers and awards - FOX Sports on MSN What do you guys think of the Skins hate in this article? I actually disagree with the notion that that Skins were one of the three biggest losers this offseason. The Skins got a top five defensive player in the league in Albert Haynesworth. They also signed Derrick Dockery to help boost their offensive line. The Skins re-signed DeAngelo Hall to a large contract and probably overpaid but he played well for the Skins after coming from Oakland. In the draft we got maybe the best defensive player in the draft in Orakpo at pick 13. I dont understand the article when it knocks our pass rush when we tried to improve it for the first time in the draft since 1997. I think with Haynesworth on the line and Orakpos talent level Orakpo should have a very solid 2009. The Skins upgraded their offensive line with the signing of Dockery and some solid moves signing Mike Williams and Jeremy Bridges. They also upgraded a defense that had trouble getting turnovers with the additions of Haynesworth and Orakpo. I dont think the Skins failing to trade Campbell twice outweighs the positives of maybe the best offseason in DC since Gibbs cameback in 2004. As for Hall being the worst re-signing of any player this offseason I dont have a problem with that as much. The Skins did overpay and have taken a gamble on Hall. If Hall continues his solid play in DC and builds on it then it was a nice signing. If Hall falls flat on his face it may be the worst FA signing ever. I actually think Hall will have a shot at the Pro Bowl with all of the INT chances he might get with the new additions on defense. One other thing I noticed in the article was the Browns listed as having the worst draft The Browns had one of the best drafts this year imo. Knocking the Browns draft made no sense to me. The draft picks of Alex Mack (who was the top rated interior lineman prospect), Brian Robiskie (who has the best hands and route running out of any WR in the draft), and Mohamed Massaquoi (who was very underrated at Georgia) were all very nice.
It's difficult to say just yet whether the additions of Dockery, Mike Williams, and Jeremy Bridges to the offensive line are "upgrades". Hopefully they are, but to the football world outside of Redskinsland, they truly are longshots. I disagree totally about DeAngelo Hall. He was a brilliant pickup, and his time spent in the dumpster fire that is the Oakland Raiders should be completely disregarded. He's better fitted for the system we use, and will make up one of the better one-two punches at cornerback in the league. I have complete confidence in DeAngelo Hall, and the critics of his signing will eat their words. |
Re: FoxSports: NFL offseason winners, losers and awards
Was there any proof at all that we truly tried to go after Sanchez? Was it all just rumor?

Re: FoxSports: NFL offseason winners, losers and awards
Wow a national writer with negative generalities about the Redskins and predicting demise. He forgot to mention that we've gotten nothing out of our second year receivers and we just released one of our cornerstone offensive lineman. Only then will his analysis be complete.

How did that turn out once he left? Hmm.. |
Agreed. I think Orakpo at the very least will have 8 sacks this year. If he plays to his talent level as a rookie he can hit double digit sacks and become DROY.
Didn't see that predition coming from you...haha |
Re: FoxSports: NFL offseason winners, losers and awards
It's asking a lot of the 13th overall pick to impact our pass rush?
Why? every first round player from 1-20 should be impacting their team in some kind of way, and with Big Al drawing the Double teams, no reason, he shouldn't pick up 8-9 sacks as a rookie, if he is on the line, if a w-side linebacker....maybe 7-8, but you draft the first round for impact! There is no reason Brian Orakapo, shouldnt be impacting the team in a positive way, the only way i see if he is a bust, and that's most of players coming out of Texas, trace back ten years and you will see!( on the texas bust) |

Re: FoxSports: NFL offseason winners, losers and awards
But seriously folks, I think this has been a pretty good offseason as long as AH doesn't pull a Mike Williams on us in the next year or two.

I disagree. It's tough to get a lot of sacks from the SAM LB position. I really feel like playing him at strong LB is a huge mistake. Toss him next to AH on the line and let him benefit from single blocking. |

and he forgot to mention how DS is just playing fantasy football by signing AH just like he did with Bruce Smith and Deion Sanders. |
Re: FoxSports: NFL offseason winners, losers and awards
Oh yeah, TO as the BEST off-season signing???
Let's see, a declining diva receiver with a history of dividing teams, on a team with a young QB who has yet to estabish himself. Oh yeah, that's some great analysis!! What a waste. |

There was interest, but probably not nearly as much as some may think. And we, of course, weren't the only team to show interest in Sanchez. |

He's going to be playing DE on 3rd downs and obvious passing situations. |
