Apparently not feasible enough.

LOL...so obvious and so funny. I believe the lesson learned is that once you join the Union you can never leave. The contract is perpetual and permanent.

Worse than the mafia, at least with the mafia you can join witness protection and go into hiding.

If we're talking pratically then yeah no chance this ever happens. Or is even attempted. It's just posturing anyways. If we are talking philosophically why can't Texas leave if they want?

A large percentage of Texans wouldn't want to secedes. What is stopping them from seceding from Texas? At this point fragmentation of the entire state is bound. Joining is truly one way, especially after 164 years.

Out of morbid curiousity, why is that? I think there are other states more suitable personally...like California for instance. But no state is self sustaining enough to be their own country.
Secession was feasible during the Civil War era when everyone had muskets that could fire an unaccurate bullet once every 4 and half minutes. To think of a state seceding from a country that has one of the most advanced military forces on earth is laughable.

Imagine the magnitude of military might could be wrought upon the lone star state by the federal government if they chose to sucede.

In addition, mere talk of suceding by any state or government official should be grounds for dismissal from office and they should be subject to imprisonment.
If you can go to jail for not paying your taxes and impeached for an oval office BJ, imagine what would happen to you if headed a sucession from one of the most powerful nations on earth?
Funny thing is, King George III said the same thing about Jefferson, Washington, and Franklin.

Secession at its core is really just about the freedom of disassociation. In the same way a battered wife has every right to dissolve the relationship with her abusive husband, states should have the right to dissolve their relationship with the federal government.

If one person in a relationship tries to leave but the other forcibly makes them stay, what sort of relationship is that, really?

Put a dirty white wifebeater on Uncle Sam then because there would be no way any state is leaving this union peacefully.

Blood was shed to get in, and blood will be shed to get out. Blood In, Blood Out, just like my favorite Benjamin Bratt movie.

Well, not exactly. Blood was shed to get free of England certainly, but the Founders looked at their states as their own countries. They didn't shed blood to swear allegiance to a massive leviathan of a federal government with no way out. In their eyes, the United States of America was plural, not singular. You're right about the second part though -- Lincoln made it clear that if anyone tried to leave, he'd send the army in to kill those who tried.

It's funny how Lincoln is held up as some sort of god because of this.

Isn't Vermont trying to secede as well...and Maine?

California seceeding would be fantastic. They have to leave San Diego though.
