Great Start to not cutting Springs, Washington, Taylor and Daniels. If we cut all of these non performers we have no cap issues. Cerrattos insanity continues.
Yes, it certainly makes sense to cut a starting LB, starting CB, and two potential starting DEs with no replacement signed or in-house. What a dumb-ass Cerrato is. What type of leverage would the Skins be giving Hall if they cut Springs now? That one move could cost the organization $ 10-15M additional in Hall's contract because we lose the leverage of being able to walk away from Hall if the price tag gets too high. What if we can't draft a DE or get one in FA? Cutting Taylor and Daniels now would leave us in pretty bad shape, correct. I'm not saying these moves shouldn't be made, ultimately they'll clear $ 21M + in cap space, but they need to be timed correctly, FA doesn't open until March 1 and we must be under the cap by Feb 27. The draft is the next step. We can also delay dead-cap hits on these guys after June 1. A restructure/extension for AC, I've got no issue with, ARE I think is already overpaid, but based on his contract no way he is released until after the 2010 season. Understand the business side of things before you make the "Cerrato insanity" remark. |

I'd only remark that cutting Daniels and Taylor would leave us shallow at end, in terms on an injury putting an untested replacement in the spotlight, but keep in mind for most of '08 it was Evans and Carter starting and they we're serviceable. ... i'm just looking ahead and thinking that if the rumors about Marcus are true we're facing a much bigger issue at OLB than at DE even if Daniels and Taylor are cut. |
Re: New contracts for Andre Carter and Randle El
Now this creates more money to spend on hall and maybe a really good free agent like haynesworth or peppers, or max starks...

I agree with you completely, that's the whole point of the restructure of ARE & AC. The FO is buying time and giving the Skins options in FA & the draft. With the two restructures we aren't forcing our hand on a specific position. We have leverage, we don't need to get into a bidding war for a particular guy or give up picks to move up to fill a glaring need. If we nail down a better replacement in FA or the draft, then Taylor and/or Daniels are cut. If not, we hold on to them. To your point, if we lock up Dansby (doubtful) or a better OLB in FA or the draft then goodbye Washington. But to make these moves before we have a better option is the true insanity. |

ahh a little bit of sanity goes a long way |
Re: New contracts for Andre Carter and Randle El
several people are griping about how these moves are stupid because it will likely increase ARE and carters cap numbers in future years, making it difficult to cut them when they stop producing (like with jansen). what we must remember is that there will ne no salary cap in 2010, which means well be able to cut whomever we want without worrying about the dead cap space such a move would create. so don't worry, next year at this time we could easily cut both of these guys, along with a ton of other non-producing players. this was a very good move by vinny. it buys us time to make other moves and gives us more room to sign players and improve our team in 2009. the only down side to this is snyder's wallet will likely take a much bigger hit when we finally cut ties with these two

Plackemeier should have been a keeper, best punter we've had in quite some time

Thank you. Someone else said it so I didn't have to. There's not likely to be a cap in 2010 and beyond. Extending Randle-El and Carter will not be a financial problem come this time next year. This clears more space than I had anticipated would be possible from Carter and Randle-El, because they're extending (to remain compliant with 30% rule) as opposed to restructuring. I'll withhold further comment until I see more contract details, but this points to an attempt to keep the old heads on the team around for a longer period of time. |
Yeah except for all those cap hits
except that would give us $20m in cap space look at the cap idiot. |

Ooh, calling the lead mod an idiot isn't a solid strategy for long term stability and success on the board. Vinny, is that you? |
I guess anything is possible, but that move would be very unlikely. And If I had to guess Moss is going nowhere.
I don't want to see Moss go anywhere. But we sign El to an extension, and so much is at stake with D.Thomas and M.Kelly given their draft status. So if we don't get rid of Moss, we've got our receiving corps for the next few years it would seem. And that may very well be the case. It just means we're relying really heavily on last years rookies. That worries me. |
Re: New contracts for Andre Carter and Randle El
Can't wait for the NFL to rid itself of the cap. Dumbest BS they ever did. It was supposed to create parity, and it did, but in doing so created a ho hum product. You have a bunch of mediocre teams, with the same teams year in and out making the playoffs with a couple new faces each year.If Philly didn't tank at the end the SB would have been really crappy.
