Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?

As it's been said, Portis can easily be league MVP, and Horton (if he keeps it up) can be Defensive Rookie of the Year.

It's a no brainer when you have a player who leads the league in rushing, and the next-best out there is 260 yards behind him.

Portis.

Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?

Maybe once this year would I say Portis was the MVP of a certain game. However, given the varying play of the rest of the team over the season, Portis has been the biggest single reason that this team is 6-2, so he gets my vote.

Its gotta be CP. He is running hard and fast which is taking the pressure off JC to feel he need to win the game by himself.

Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?

One of the biggest reasons that Campbell has yet to be picked off, is that at no point in the last seven games have the Redskins been in a must-throw situation. Think about that. An entire half-season, and at no point in those games did the Redskins have to abandon the run.

Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?

I voted Campbell...why?
Well, at the beginning of the year, everyone knew Portis and our line should be good.
What no one knew was how would Campbell do.
Most predicted he would struggle early.

Last year, Campbell was an Average QB.
Everyone said the Skins season depended on his development.....well, he developed...nicely...
He is now a GOOD QB, arguably on the edge of pro-bowl consideration.

Why is Portis getting so many yards? many reasons...of course his ability, training and oline are huge....but....if there is no passing threat such as prior years with Brunell, early Campbell, etc., defenses key on him and keep him in check...ya know 8-9 in the box.

Zorn and Campbell have done a good job in the passing game to keep defenses honest.
This removes an extra defender against the run and THAT is a HUGE ADVANTAGE in the running game that we didn't have in prior years.....

So, I say, Campbell is a big reason for Portis' success.
Portis was good before, and he still is.
But Campbell is vastly improved and the team rides on his shoulders.
So I am taking the more controversial pick with Campbell.
(though I can be easiliy swayed by all your excellent points on Portis)

Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?

Campbell is BY FAR the most valuable player on this team. He plays at the most demanding position, and he hasn't thrown an interception. That is far more valuable than what CP has done, IMO.

TOUGH!!! It is a warrior like effort on several fronts.......but you cannot make the case anywhere else other than CP

From ESPN the Magazine

You want a midseason MVP? I'll take the guy on one knee. Clinton Portis does that often, you know. He rests every chance he gets. It has become a humorous point for his Washington Redskins teammates, who notice that during a fourth-quarter timeout or two-minute warning, Portis is down on bended knee, catching his breath.

I agree that Portis is the Redskins AND the League MVP at the midway point.

Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?

With Portis leading in the race for League MVP, I can't vote against him for team MVP.

His legs in the first quarter could be the most valuable appendages in all Football this year.

THAT BEING SAID:
London Fletcher is a beast.

He had a game ending tackle last week and has given the D real, honest to god leadership.
Honestly, though, who could imagine we would be so fortunate to be able to have this discussion?

How many pro-bowl caliber people are on this team? It is off the hook.

I was on the Season ticket list for 15 years.

I've had season tickets for seven years now.

I've got one one last thought:

FINALLY!

it's hard to vote for only one redskin. but i had to go with portis. moss is having a great year. but i have to say i'm sorry to jason campbell. i stated that we would be under .500 with him taking the snaps this year. WOW!!! i was wrong!!! no interceptions in over 230 pass attempts, making good decisions with the ball. jc has turned the corner. and the entire defence reminds me of the capitol defence in the early 90's the offence is making play's...HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!!

Re: Redskins MVP through 8 games?

Gotta say Portis, but a large part of games are put in the hands of the QB. For that reason Campbell is a very close second.
