By the way, I believe that Lloyd is a Cerrato move coming from his 49er roots. That worked out like a lead balloon.
This was actually an Al Saunders move. So IMO the front office gets a pass on Lloyd, they just brought in what the new "offensive guru" requested.

NFL Preview: Al Saunders on the attack for Redskins | HamptonRoads.com | PilotOnline.com

"The free agents had to be able to get deep, to draw enough attention from linebackers, corners and safeties to give mercurial Santana Moss more man-to-man coverage or make room for Cooley's new, deeper pass routes. Once the defense is spread, Portis' chances of gashing them with breakaway runs would increase dramatically.
The two players Saunders thought offered the best chance to make that happen: San Francisco's Brandon Lloyd and Pittsburgh's Antwaan Randle El. In mid-March, Washington traded for Lloyd and signed Randle El.
"He pushed hard for them," said Bob Saunders, Al's son and a Redskins assistant. "Everyone knows what Brandon can do on the football field, his speed, the acrobatic catches. With Randle El, it's what he can do in the slot, the double moves, his cutting ability. Getting them really expanded the offense."
Llyod is due a roater bonus March 1 of this year in the amount of $1.8 million. I don't see Synder & Co. keeping him on the roster to give him that bonus. My bet is the Skins cut him so he doesn't get that bonus and than designate him a June 1 Cap cut so the cap hit gets spread out over the next 2 years. As Schneed and Crazy Canuck and other capologists on ths site have pointed out, the SKins can easily cut Llyod as far as the cap goes.
My limited understanding of the cap is that if we cut him before the roster bonus is due, we cannot designate him as a June 1st cap cut. I'm pretty sure that signing bonuses can only be prorated over 5 seasons. That being the case and assuming Lloyd is cut before this March roster bonus, $6M will accelerate against our 2008 cap, and Lloyd will be off the books by 2009.

The previous post regarding Al Saunders pitching to get Lloyd may be another factor in the Danny's urgency to replace Saunders with Zorn.

Re: Brandon Lloyd

New OC, new HC = a new start for BL. My take on this is last year the staff gave up on the guy after that INT in the first game of the year. After that he just didn't get enough passes thrown his way. You can't produce if they don't throw you the ball. I say bring him back and let him compete. It's not like we're loaded at WR. I mean wr is a weak spot on the team IMO. The FO should bring in as many wr's as possible and let everybody compete for their jobs.

If I remember correctly the players cheered for him last year when he finally caught a ball. I'm not so sure that he is hated so much by the players.

Oh I read it. I'm just commenting in general that some people won't give up on him no matter what.

He is greatly disliked amongst his teammates. I seriously doubt they'll keep him around after he has sat around and stolen pay checks for some years now AND everyone hates him.

He is. I have heard it straight from the mouth of more than 3 players. He has NONE, ZERO, ZILCH support amongst players. Them cheering for him was more of a sarcastic gesture after they did everything in the world to help build up his confidence and get him involved and he went and crapped all ove them.

cool, just stating i never wanted the douche and still dont, yet i thought it would be a good subject to talk about given the circumstances in the front office and his high cap number

Actually the Mythbusters made a lead balloon work just fine.

I think I've made my views of Brandon Lloyd known for quite some time. I thought he was a jackass then, I think he is one now, and I think he will probably always be one.

And we all know that everything on Mythbusters is scientifically accurate.

I mean how could two guys with backgrounds in Hollywood special effects and model building possibly NOT be scientifically accurate? We all know that Hollywood special effects follow a strict scientific approach.

Re: Brandon Lloyd

The funny thing about Lloyd is he was a pretty economical WR in SF. His 2004 salary was $306,000 and he caught 6 TDs for a average price of $51,100 a TD. (http://biz.stats.com/images/WSJ_091505.pdf). That made him the 6th most valuable player in terms of $ per TD that year. Fast forward to 2007, his salary (base) is $595,000 for a grand total of 0 TDs. I'm no math genius but I think that is a significant decrease in value. I kind of wish the guy was salvageable (as in he's "see the light", straighten up, and work out hard) but I have to believe he is cap casualty #1 and we'll see him trying to rap on some MTV spring break special. Or being one of the "Joes" on Joes v. Pros.

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is he actually that expensive to keep? By cutting him, we'd have to pay out the rest of his signing bonus this year right? while I too am sick of him, perhaps a new head coach, system, coordinator, etc may be able to find some use...
Re: Brandon Lloyd

I honestly think that Lloyd was never given a chance here. He may have been a victim of the offense war between Gibbs and Saunders. Gibbs had the ultimate say of who got on the field ya know... Lloyd will be gone to STL. we have to make room to get Ocho Stinko
