Or whoever the baseball equivalent of Norv is...

Hopefully the Pads have learned from the Chargers on this one.

Black led them to the 4th best record in Padres history.

How he managed 89 wins is beyond me.
He didn't have a single starter hit over .283.
He didn't have a single player hit more than 30 homers.
He didn't have a single player hit more than 100 RBI.
No one had over 18 steals.
Only 1 person had over 100 runs, and that was barely at 101.
Only Peavy and Maddux had over 9 wins.

At least they had good pitching.

WOOOOOO...I stayed up to watch it. GREAT GAME.

I hope this wins the MVP for Matt Holliday. He pretty much knocked himself out scoring that winning run. I saw a post-game interview and he had no skin left on his chin.

Hoffman choked that game away, but the replays clearly showed Holliday never touched home plate and this was just another example of baseball needing situational replay. if available that would have resulted in a runner at first base with the game tied and 2 outs and possibly a completely different outcome. But in the end the Padres only have themselves to blame for choking away the division lead and then the wildcard. Go Phillies or Cubs now.

What about Garrett Atkins' "non-homerun" earlier in the game? That looked like it cleared the yellow bar. What did you think?

from the replays they showed last night and this morning I though it hit around the middle of that bar and thus not out, but I honestly couldn't say one way or another which means I'd have to stick with the ruling on the field. But on the winning run play u could clearly see Holliday's hand got completely blocked by the catchers foot. I'll admit I'm biased as a hardcore Padres fan, but just as with the Redskins I can normally look at situations like this to realize when a call was fair or unfair. But like I said the Padres in a way deserved to lose for choking down the stretch whereas the Rockies kept fighting til the very end.

that's the second save Trevor Hoffman has blown in the last 3 games!
That is shocking.

I think it was clearly a home run, and if I had to put my money on the play at the plate, I say he definitely did not touch the plate. However, from the angles we got, instant replay would not have overturned it, there are no real conclusive angles.
At worst I see it as a make up call for the blown HR which was clearly a home run. At best, even if they went another inning, I do not think SD would have won. The right team advanced.
