I love all animals, particularly dogs. I also find dog-fighting disgusting and cowardly. And, of course, Portis' remarks were dumb. But, to be honest, I think the backlash against him was a little over the top.
I don't know. He seemed pretty serious when he made the intial remarks.

Now, if he had been wearing a cape, rainbow colored wig, and a ginormous pair of sunglasses, then maybe he would have been joking.
Did you happen to see how the interview was going before before they asked him about Vick? No. What you didn't see was that this was a laid back, joking around type of interview. They were joking around when the question came up about dog fighting and that's why Chris S. was kind of laughing. The way the media made this look was not right. CP should not have said what he said but please. It's not like he's going to dog fights, or is involved or anything like that.

If this was 20 or 30 years ago this would not have even made the news. But with all the mass media it gets played and replayed 50,000 times. I'm glad this is over casue I'm sick of it. Let's talk some football. Not about what some silly off the wall comments a guy made when he was basically joking around.

Well, he was serious when he made the remarks. If you read his apology in the post, he says "A couple of weeks ago, when I made those comments I didn't understand the seriousness behind it, I didn't know it would affect that many people, and didn't think what I said was that offensive. But after doing some research and seeing how serious people take this, I shouldn't have made the comments."

In other words, he didn't realize dogfighting was wrong when he made those comments. It shows how ignorant he is, and I find that sad.

But I respect the fact that he showed interest in reading up on the subject and educating himself. And that I admire him for. Sometimes people don't know stuff that they should, happens to all of us at some point. But the worst thing would be if he just ignored all the criticism and kept being an ass about it. He manned up, read more about it, and now recognizes it's a sensitive issue for people. End of story.

On to the real news buried within the text of the post article: his knee is looking better. That's rather awesome.

Hopefully everyone can move past this now.

This whole thing was ridiculous from the start.

Did anyone notice the part in the article where Portis said he recently saw a woman caring for her dog in an airport.......it made him think of a commercial where people were weeping over a dying whale?

I think Portis thinks it super funny that his comments created such a fire-storm.

If that's not a joke then I don't know what is.

Not representing the Redskins when he said those remarks. He was at the Redskins Beach Blast when he said that. I agree that he has the freedom to say what he wants but people also have the right to disagree with him when he support an illegal activity.

As I said in a prior thread, CP is a dim whit who is unable to understand or notice when an interview shifts from light-hearted, joking questions to something more serious (a fellow player potentially commiting a felony). He also thinks he is clever and funny when in fact he is neither. I do think his apology is genuine but I also believe he still thinks that whatever people do on their own property with their own property (legal or illegal) is fine.

Portis has said exactly what I thought when he made the comments he did. He hadn't given much thought to what he was saying, nor had he taken into consideration the sensitivity of the issue. I too am a dog lover, and have been for a long, long time, and find no solace in watching them destroy one another.

His comments seemed quite genuine, and I think he learned a lesson from that experience, and that's what's important. There's no way we can downplay the love many of us have for our pets, (dogs in particular) a love that has a long and storied history since the civilization of mankind.

Dan Reeves said, and I
" They are the one's that will always love you when you come home, regardless of the score. [unq.]

Not only did he not take into consideration the sensitivity of the issue, he said he had no idea people loved animals so much. What planet has this guy been living on his whole life?

He couldnt take the issue's sensitivity into consideration because he didnt know it was an issue. I still think he is sincere in his apology but boy is he dense.

If he's never had pets before I don't think it's too crazy to think he didn't understand just how attached some people are to their animals.

In the end who cares, let's move on.

Having or not having pets, I find it amazing (impossible?) that anyone who is even remotely aware of the world around them could live in the USA in the 21st century and not be aware that people become very attached to their pets.

I dont think people should be losing sleep over this but I do think it tells us a lot about CP's character & intellect.

Is anyone going to give a damn about this come Sept? Is anyone not going to cheer for CP when he's running for 100+ yards against Miami just because he made some stupid comments about dog fighting? Nope.

I'd be willing to bet there are people that would be amazed at how much some of us love a professional football team.
