Haskins tweeted out something yesterday (can't find it now) that made it pretty clear, he was happy about the hiring. |

Haskins can’t catch a break, here comes the dogpile

Re: Ron Rivera Thread
Per Mark Maske:
MarkMaskeVerified account @MarkMaske 21 minutes ago [~2:50] Kevin O'Connell is "still working things out" with Ron Rivera, according to source. So not clear yet if O'Connell will remain with Redskins as Rivera's offensive coordinator.
|
Re: Ron Rivera Thread
Rivera consulted with Joe Gibbs before taking the job. RR: "After meeting with Mr. Snyder, I spoke to Joe and he invited me to his house and we spent a good afternoon going through a lot of things."

Re: Ron Rivera Thread
I doubt anyone else would make O'Connell an OC at this point. Perhaps we could let him keep the OC title but essentially be a QB coach and work with Haskins while Rivera brings in his own guy to be the Assistant Head Coach Offense or something like that.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread
Jay Gruden is gonna end up being the worst coach to have a terrific coaching tree.
|
Re: Ron Rivera Thread
I think the KOC route is showing RR isn't going bend to pressure, he is going to pick the guy he thinks is the best for the job.
To be honest I am not sure what KOC has done that everyone has a boner about. Kyle S and Sean M. always felt more like the real deal to me. |
Re: Ron Rivera Thread
Rivera said a lot of positive things about Haskins, but he also said:
I also think there's a couple of good veteran quarterbacks that are obviously going to get some opportunities to play as well.
Seems like an odd comment to make if you're 100% behind Haskins as your day 1 starter. I mean, what coaches bring up backup QBs during their introductory press conferences if you have a young 1st round QB who is your unquestioned starter? Maybe he's just not wanting Haskins to get to comfortable. Or maybe he really is going to evaluate all the QBs and make his own decision. That decision almost certainly will be Haskins, but the mere fact Rivera said this could mean that Dan isn't forcing Haskins on him - which is a good thing. Rivera has a 5 year contract. He should have total control during that 5 years over his roster and his starters. |
Re: Ron Rivera Thread
I'm with you. KOC has been the official OC for about 13 games.
I wouldn't turn the offense over to him completely just yet. |

Re: Ron Rivera Thread
That was a good start to the Riverboat Ron era of Redskins football but, and this is a nitpick, some one dropped the ball on the press conference setup, not putting a jersey where RR expected it. The Skins media group has always been lacking, and this was a muff on his intro press conference.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread
Also, why should a coach commit to a QB that he wasn't part of selecting, nor has had the time to review tape or see the other options. It's not like he's coming on a team with a Rodgers, Brees, Brady, etc....

+1 I'm not reading into it too much, if I had to guess I'd say he's gonna make Haskins earn that starting job. Not a big deal to me. |

RR said in the press conference, "Things will begin and end with one simple principle...discipline. I come from a military family where discipline isn't taught, it is lived. It is expected from day 1.....you are NOT to going to play for this team or work for this team if you do not have it.....no exceptions...no excuses." After Jay Gruden this is a breath of fresh air. |
Re: Ron Rivera Thread
There will probably be quite a few guys gone. Everyone is all about discipline until actually having it enforced. Club Jay guys are going bye bye.
Bama Boys gotta be excited. |
