So now when Gibson fumbles it’s in the opponents side of field..😳…I hope this ends well.

Gibson averaged 28 yards per kickoff return, with 1 TD, in his Senior year - 23 returns total.

Only one kickoff returner, Braxton Berrios from the NYJ, had a better average last year in the NFL (with at least 23 returns).

Honestly, this could turn out great. Robinson will be the RB1, J Williams will be his primary backup, McKissic will be the 3rd down back, and Gibson is now our Deebo Samuel / kick returner.

Gibson had one fumble in a pre season game. He went from being the starting RB to the KO returner? lol.

I think the writing was on the wall when they drafted B Robinson. It was just a matter of time. That one fumble sealed the deal, but it was him leading all RBs in fumbles last year that 'got the ball rolling'.

The thing is, he can still be a fantastic player, he just has no business running between the tackles.

Agreed. Not only was the painting on the wall, but Rivera said it's not only about the fumbling, but also about the running style, said something like he wanted more north-south and less east-west.
We dont have any studs on our O line but we got a lot of starter capable guys.

Leno - Lucas - Charles
Norwell - Schweitzer - Charles
Roullier - Larsen - Schweitzer
Turner - Schweitzer - Charles
Cosmi - Lucas - Charles

Thats 8 right there to start season, 9 once Larsen comes off PUP. Love Lucas and Schweitzers swing abilities. Such good low key signings.
Don't be surprised if Schweitzer starts over Turner IMO.
Its a solid unit, and we have depth
It is. I think Sunny put it best: no pro bowlers, solid unit, good depth

I don't see it ending well. EVERYONE knows he has a fumbling issue...so I don't care if it's between the tackles or out in the open, the first person that touches Gibson is banging on his arm/or ball trying to punch it out...and it's only going to take ONE fumble as a kick returner, and it's real hard to see that NOT happening....and he'll hardly ever see the field again. I hope the best for him, but the cards are stacked against him it seems.

I agree. Gibson has played and given this team a lot of value for a 3rd round pick. He was one of 7 running backs w over 1k yards and hes been available for us, missing very few games.

Hes not a 3 down back, he shouldnt be run between the tackles a lot and should be a big part of a running back by committee.

This team has overly leaned on him imo.

-----

Looking into if hes over used ..

Gibson was 4th in total carries at 258. Taylor had 332, Najee Harris has 307, Mixon had 292.

I thought Gibson would led that bunch in receptions by a good bit.

Najee Harris had 74 catches!?! leveon bell was right w how Tomlin wears and tears his RB out. Plus Big Ben couldnt throw more than 5 yards.

taylor had 40, Mixon had 42.

Gibson had 42.

-------------------

using him less might increase his production efficiency.

As a 3rd round back, hes a great pick for whats hes given us and has been forced into a bell cow.

Not anymore.

Now we have a stable w Robinson, Gibson, McKissic ... but Robinson has to show it, a few PS games and rave scout reviews arent prime time under the lights.

---

Were kinda kicking Gibson unfairly and crowning the new guy too soon.

Im a big Schweitzer fan. I love versatile good under the radar guards. Randy Thomas was one of my favs.

Schweitzer gets at it and can play C in a pinch. if Roullier isnt ready or goes down mid game, I think Schweitzer goes in at C.

You need an IOL swing guy that can play like you need a swing T that can play.

Leno/Cosmi holding up on long passing plays worries me though.

Most of Gibson's big plays in college came as a receiver. He can be spectacular in the open field. So, get him the ball in space where he can create big chunk plays and hit some home runs. He is a modern NFL type of player. Used properly he can be very productive and help us win more games.

I think you're being overly pessimistic about AG. He is way too talented to be on the bench.

I also love the spirited way that Schweitzer plays the game.

I have no concerns whatsoever about Charles Leno's pass blocking. I think he is one of the better pass blockers in the League. His PFF pass blocking grade for the 2021 season was 87.3 which is excellent.

Cosmi is clearly a better run blocker than he is a pass blocker but he is improving fast as a pass blocker. He's very young and there could be a Pro Bowl in his future. So, I'm not very worried about him either.

A PFF guy (or some stat geek) said we were bottom 10 on longer developing pass plays.

I cant find anything on the internet re OL rankings for long pass plays.

Leno worries me. Cosmi worries me. Especially if left 1 on 1 vs a speed/outside move guy, or responsible for picking up an outside rushing LB/edge.

We'll see.
