Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
exactly how i feel. 7-9 w/ a weak schedule against a lot of bad Qb's.
Um we had bad qb play in alot of those losses, a head coach with cancer, no preseason (that affected new coaches exponentially more than establishef teams). The schedule is what it is. The team played well in the playoffs, against an all around strong team. Thats reason to be hopeful. Add in that it seems like Rivera has a plan and is executing it, and I think you have reason to believe with the right QB play we can make noise in the NFC

Their strategy, shit the bed so you get the first overall pick. Rivera hiring anyone with connections. Might as well hire Rob Kardashian and Sarah Huckabee. I'm going to be the first off the Rivera bandwagon. F this guy and he cronies.
do you understand this goes on in NFL? people hire who they know and who they're comfortable with. |
Jay Gruden 1 hour one on one w/ Sheehan is a must listen IMO
Some key insights and confirmations of how dysfunctional this organisation was...
Listened to most of it tonight. I thought his take with Dwayne and the Alex situation were interesting. Regarding Dwayne thought he could have been had in 2nd round then could have spent time developing him and wouldn't have required first team reps that first rounds are expected. Sounded a bit out of his control from that. In Regards to Alex not sure why we traded for him when he thinks they could have signed him in offseason and not lost the picks and Fuller. Neither situation is guaranteed with Jay's thought process but I get it. |
Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
That's a good listen for sure, sounds like Kirk was never going to stay regardless..
Also as we knew Dan picked DH |
Mooby, I've been a fan since I moved to N VA in 1982, and played youth football for BYRC - on the fields next to where John Riggins' son played baseball. I've seen those teams you are talking about, "tough from the first minute of the first game to the last minute of the last one," and unfortunately they have been gone for a long time. There can't be too many professional franchises that has made it tougher on their fans, than this one for the last ~30 years.
I agree there's work to be done. There always is, and if the organization isn't constantly working long hard hours trying to improve every aspect of the team, then they are destined to fail. It appears, at least on the surface, that this is exactly what they are doing. But RR and his "cronies" have their work cut out for them this offseason. Last year, despite all RR went through and the Alex Smith story, was as close to a "gimme" as you can get. If this team hadn't successfully drafted a D-lineman in the first round over the past four years the results would likely have been much different. However, the results were the results, and I am excited about them. Confidence is one thing. This new front office & coaching staff has to earn my confidence. Benefit of the doubt is another thing though. I refuse to look at every success this team manages to achieve with pessimism. I am inspired, even excited, that they were the team to ultimately win the division, rather than finish 2-4. It's something to build on. There's plenty of talent on this team, young talent, and I believe there's more on the way. Hopefully that starts with a QB that can help this team take another step forward. There have been many reasons to not root for this team over the years, plenty of reasons to not even become a fan of this team for many years going now. This offseason seems like an odd time to make that decision - as a fan.
I'm gonna try and make it short, I agree last year is something to build on. But last year won't mean squat if RR and co. don't make the right moves this offseason. Bring in the wrong qb and there won't be any progress from last year. Alls I'm saying is I see where jamf is coming from. In every one of those years that I witnessed, 05, 07, 12, 15, and 20, the following year were all failures. The difference between me and jamf is I choose to trust RR because his choices so far have not proven to be failures. But his choices for the staff/FO aren't exactly cream of the crop either. Results: TBD. We'll see what happens. Nothing comes easy in this league. I just think jamf is being a little premature in giving up on this staff, but only time will tell. If he's right we're all wrong. I hope that's not the case but history has repeated itself the last 5 times we went on an end-of-season run. |
That Kneel down from Kirk wasn't even his fault lolol Garcon fucked him over
As qb he should have run a play or spiked it. No way it was not his fault. And if Garcon doesn't do the route throw it away. The whole story reeks of dysfunction from Gruden and KC. Also explains why KC can't win in two minute drills. If he gets flustered because he is listening to the players in the huddle instead of running the play called.

Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
Seems like too many cooks? I don't know much about him, just the quick scan that he also has been a GM before, and that he was in the Colts FO for most of PManning's run, culminating with leaving the season after Manning retired.
Hard to know how much his ability played in to the Colts success, but 6years with the Jaguars doesn't inspire much confidence.
My first reaction too. How many ex-GM's can you hire before the back biting starts to happen at the first sign of adversity? Or ... is Ron Rivera channeling Abraham Lincoln and his "team of rivals as his cabinet" approach to building a football team? Ron better make sure everyone is on the same page, singing from the same sheet of music, (insert more cliches for being unified in the direction of the team) ... or it has the potential to be a clusterfuck. |

They have to make the right moves to continue to have success, starting with the QB position. I don't have a problem with any of the moves so far. Time will tell if they are the right ones, or if history will repeat itself yet again. |

BTW I wasn't saying you were shitting on him, my words were directed towards those implying he should quit being a fan just because he doesn't like the moves Ron is making. If that was the case at some point we should all quit being fans because we've all been there at some point. |
Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
I like the way things are going so far, though I'm a little curious about all the FO movement. I'll wait and see how it shakes out and I'm cautiously optimistic.
Kyle Smith's situation is puzzling though, as I'd have thought he'd have been turfed out a while back if he and RR were not on the same page. Only scenario I cans see is that RR didn't think he had the credentials to be a GM and that's kind of validated by his sideways move to Atlanta. I like we haven't made a crazy move at QB; I'd have been happy with Stafford but not for the stupid price the Rams went with. I'm more and more leaning towards going with Heinicke/Allen battling for starter (assuming Alex Smith retires/is cut), and draft a guys after round 1 that has potential but need development. Allen has the potential to keep us in contention if he has more weapons around him while a rookie shows what he can learn and then do later. Thinking about it, RR seems to trust Allen, so unless we can swing a palatable deal for Watson, I don't see a (valid) trade target or FA now with enough upside to go for. It's now the dead zone of the offseason where nothing really happens until around mid March, so I'm quite happy if we stay out of the news for the next 3-4 weeks. :) |
Re: WFT's Off-Season Thread
I've been preaching that since the season ended. A bunch of things fell their way this season. So what? At least they took advantage and came out on top. It's more than we've seen in a while...
I choose to be excited about the team's successes when they happen, and I choose to be hopeful for the future after the last game of every season. That's just me. I'm not a fan of this team only when they are dominating the rest of the league from the first whistle to the last. If that were the case, I would have been gone long ago.
I hear you lets celebrate the good times, very few around here. I am just speaking to the over-excited that say we are a QB away from a dynasty; we are not. |

I think he was as good as gone from the moment he told Dan Snyder in the crowded draft room that he (Snyder) didn't know jack shit about football when Snyder ordered that DH be drafted in the first round. From then on, he had zero chance of becoming the GM of the WFT, even if RR wanted him. |
