Greg Cosell (sr. producer at NFL Films) being very complimentary of Sam Howell.

He is getting love from the media, just not from the big names yet. I agree with them. Howell has his flaws but they are fixable.

If you look at QB's drafted last year, you can argue Sam is better than all of them.

Pickett 1st round
Willis 3rd round
Zappe 4th round
Purdy 7th round
Ridder 3rd round

I've said it before, but I'll say it again, given the less than ideal conditions Sam has operated under, he has looked more than capable of being a really good NFL QB. Imagine if he had a better O-line, a defense that could stop someone, and an OC that didn't have runningameophobia.

I don't mind drafting a QB in the later rounds in 2024. I think that would probably make sense if there's one there that they would like to develop. However, if Sam continues to impress and doesn't show any weaknesses that aren't coachable, I'm not a huge fan of the idea of trading up for a QB at the top of the draft.

I have a high opinion of Greg Cosell as an evaluator of NFL talent. Greg said "I would definitely be staying with Sam Howell" and I feel somewhat reassured by that.

Speaking of young QBs, I thought Will Levis looked very good against the Steelers defense Thursday night.

Agreed, and why is there this obsession with the idea that an incoming HC will want his own QB? Coaches have come into the job and retained an incumbent QB, and many have had success.

Here is some truth … We are in the best position since Cousins at the QB position and I’m thinking Sam has a higher ceiling than Cousins ..remember we have NO Running game that scares anyone .. every single D we face knows we are gonna pass .. and pass ! We got RR running the show .. we got a D that has collapsed.. a Suspect Oline … and YET Sam is raising eyebrows with his play … yes he has some gaffs but even the best do … have I said anything that’s not true … correct me if I have !

Hope you are right about Howell having a higher ceiling than Cousins because that would put him into the Mahomes, Allen, Burrow territory.

If I'm Harris I'm not betting my house on Howell just yet, but if the new GM/HC combo believe they can work with/improve him and prefer to fill the other roster holes instead of pursuing yet another QB in the draft, I'm 💯 behind them. Even if Howell has a top 10 ceiling at best, they're not going to have a winning roster by giving up picks to chase another QB.

Don’t over think it. on the road at Gillette versus Bill Belichick defense who is knee deep in the defense play calls

Nice game Sam

The dimes were the fade to Terry (great catch) on 3rd and long against the side line, the two scramble throws to Pringle (one on third down), the throw to Brown in the end zone…perfect location…right between his hands…and of course the perfect td throw to JD.

And how about the long run for the conversation on 3rd down?

The crazy thing to me is people giving up on him before he's played a full season in his pro career - he's more than shown enough flashes this early one to deserve the entire season (and now more at this point).

The key is showing improvement week-to-week and he's done that.

Yesterday he put the offense on his back, that shows he can be that QB1 we need. He played lights out other than one bad pass.

Wow that's impressive.. I cannot remember exactly which game, but I think it was right at the beginning of the Giants game, the announcers showed Howell's stats - he played better when under pressured.. Other than the Giants game where he was swarmed by Giants throughout the game, he handled the pressure pretty well.

I am going to give Terry most of the credit on that catch. Sam threw off his back foot and it kind of floated. Quality route running by Terry made it a moot issue because he gaped the db but if it was tighter coverage it is probably not a completion.

Yeah, and with more experience he'll learn that he can and should burn a timeout himself in those situations in future. Just tell the coach he didn't like what he saw from the D and take any fallout on the chin.

He's definitely a mentally tough kid. And he consistently assumes no less than half the blame, even if we all know it's often not like that with our line for most of the season.

Guys like playing with him. And I bet that's a huge part of it. Very impressive for a 2nd year player. It even rubs off on the defense: See J.A. talking about Howell.

His toughness comes from having played as a LB and S in HS.
