Re: Week 17 NFC EAST Championship Game Day Thread
The best thing is we may beat Tampa, if Smith doesn't start, BUT ... I A) won 100 at over 5.5 wins.. and B) won 600
Cuz we made the playoffs. |

Wait... So we won the game and the division and people are mad?? So confused lol.

Re: Week 17 NFC EAST Championship Game Day Thread
At least a 17-point win if Heinicke played. Smith = no running game as they stack the box. Heinicke's mobility and command of the offense would have opened everything up, and this game would have been decided midway through the 3rd quarter. Happy for the berth, but the season ends next Saturday night if Smith starts, and in the deep recesses of your mind, you know that to be true. Give the kid a chance.
There is no difference between what the Eagles did tonight and a team resting its starters after clinching a bye or something. Zero difference. In both cases you are tinkering with said game based on the future. What would be wrong is if you used your time based on what some other team (the Giants) needed vs what you need. Which is to see what you got.
Exactly. Don't hear people bitching about the Steelers for sitting starters. Browns win and in and Dolphins are out. Happens every year. Every year. Not to mention, if Hurts had gotten injured seriously in the 4th quarter on a wet, muddy field against a strong DL, everybody would have said Pederson's an idiot for risking the QB of the future in a meaningless game. Sissy Giants' fans just need to shut up. Crying because their 6-10 team is out of the playoffs? Get real. Eagles don't have to field the team that Giants fans want them to field. |

If he couldn’t run they’d have been doing nothing on offense. Hell one of their drives only succeeded because of the refs. It’s not like he was putting up HOF numbers.... |
Re: Week 17 NFC EAST Championship Game Day Thread
I don't get all the negativity. I get some of it, but you can only beat the team you face, and we did that. I am not favouring us to beat Tampa, but we're NFC East champs and in the playoffs. NOBODY would have predicted that after going 2-7. Let's just revel in the moment before we come crashing back to earth in the next couple of weeks (barring a miracle).

Hurts I think will be a fine back up QB but just doesn't pass it well enough to be a 16 game starter.

To me what the Eagles did yesterday compromised the integrity of the sport. They sat 10 or 11 starters yet they have no game next week. Then you go for it on 4th down and 4 when you had an easy chance to tie the game? Then you pull Hurts for a journeymen 3rd stringer late in the game? All of it made no sense other then Petersen was trying to secure the best draft pick for the Eagles. Sorry I just can't get behind it. Then we have a QB w/ one leg out there that gets sacked if you blow on him. He can't drive the ball. I have had enough of the Smith lovefest. And it's nothing against Alex cause he is just an outstanding guy, but he should not be out there. |

F the Eagles. They made a terrible decision and I'm glad we benefited from it. They already got a circus situation with their QB position, which I'm pretty sure may have influenced Pederson's decision. |
Re: Week 17 NFC EAST Championship Game Day Thread
To me it's the same thing whether you rest starters or pull them in game. In both cases neither Pitt or Philly had anything to play for so they can both do whatever they want.

Also, what no one is talking about is how this decision just helped Pederson with his QB controversy. Everyone now it talking up J. Hurts, so easy decision to keep him as the starter after this commotion. Don't get me wrong, if I'm not justifying the decision, just coming up with whatever potential mindset Pederson had to make this decision. |
Re: Week 17 NFC EAST Championship Game Day Thread
Gonna' piss me off if the Eagles, YET AGAIN, get major draft capital for a QB. They did that shit to us for McNabb and they did it for Foles.

Wonder what all these talking heads would be saying about keeping Hurts in if he’d have slipped and torn his ACL in the fourth quarter after it really started raining....

He lives to be seen as the grandmaster of football. Fact is he also saw that Hurts, having been given the ball at the 15 could not score a go ahead touchdown, so he moved on with his plan to put Sudfield in. As I said in the other thread, our defense was not giving them points, and for all we know Curl gets another INT, or pick 6 off of Hurts too. The future wasn't written at the point he pulled Hurts, but our defense's history in the 4th quarter this year points toward a Washington win either way. |

Yeah but if they move him, they are going to take a HUGE cap hit. Unless they throw in a draft pick and negotiate for the new team to absorb some of the contract money. |

out of 263 teams that started 2-7 we are the first and only team to make the playoffs. And I think it is a fair thing to say that our team might have been further along with a normal off-season, (NYG too in all honesty), and a few early losses may have been wins. |

It's not the same. Steelers have the playoffs, so I get them resting some guys so they are healthy for a run at the SB. I'm not down on the Eagles for resting their banged up players, but J Hurts wasn't banged up. Sudfeld was a significant drop-off in talent and effectiveness. Pederson pulled the rug out from underneath every other player on that team that fought for three quarters. |
Re: Week 17 NFC EAST Championship Game Day Thread
And if Sudfeld led them to a W people would be calling Pederson a genius today. Honestly I could care less about all this drama. We won, game over. On to Tampa.
|
Re: Week 17 NFC EAST Championship Game Day Thread
Pulling on Hurts was ... odd.
Eagles had 2 QB questions. Big one - do they fully commit to 2nd round rookie Jalen Hurts in 2021? Do they continue to carry FA Sudfeld as their QB3 on their active roster as they have for a few years now? I think they Eagles saw enough to answer "yes" to question 1 - they are committing to Hurts. So why not get a last look at Sudfeld. Whose poor play makes his decision easy. Theyve answered the 2 QB questions and secured the no. 6 overall pick .. a Jamaar Chse or D Smith or Sewell or Parsons etc ------------- 4th and goal decision - no problem with that. Hurts completes that and its brilliant. |

I'm pretty sure if the Eagles were playing either the Cowboys or Giants last night, and it was Washington depending on the win, what the Eagles did would not have been a big deal or not widely discussed. |

No it would be “why was your starting QB for next year playing in bad conditions in a meaningless game”. It’s easy to second guess or criticize any decision made when you aren’t responsible for it. |
I saw that and was going WTF? There was a lot of holding not called last night.
Refs did everything they could to help the Giants last night. If the game had been called on the level, we win in a blow out. Blatant uncalled holding fouls by the Philly OL all night long. Not one single call. Not one. The first Eagles TD drive was a travesty. We stopped them three or four times, only to have bogus penalties called to extend the drive. The one pass interference call at the sideline on third and long was outright criminal. The only penalties called on Philly all night were 2 or 3 obvious off-sides, one obvious block in the back, and a holding on a punt play where the Eagle tackled our wide man right off the snap. Even on that punt play, since the obvious penalty occurred pre-kick, it could have, and probably should have, been called defensive holding, giving us a first down. The player is an eligible receiver until the ball is kicked. That is why you will often hear the ref say "after the kick" or "before the kick" when announcing penalties, because before the kick it is a defensive foul and after the kick it is a return team foul. |

There was at least 2 missed holding calls on the Eagles o-line last night, the Settle one and there was another play where one of our linemen got literally tackled on an outside rollout and they didn't call it. I'm not one to blame the refs when we take an L but the officiating was terrible last night. |
