Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Given the Jon Gruden, Andy Reid, Steve Mariucci list of QB coaches under Holmgren to succeed in the NFL, I'm fine with the hire. The way it went down stinks of an unstable front office though. But I do think we could potentially have a good HC. The Holmgren tree is strong.
I see your point, but you're a little off on the comparison. Gruden was an OC of the Eagles under Rhodes before getting a HC position. Reid was QB coach AND Asst. Head Coach before getting the HC position. Mariucci was a QB coach for the Packers, but left to be the HC of the Cal Bears before getting hired as the HC of the 49ers. Zorn was OC for Utah St., but never anything higher than QB coach in professional football, and never even a HC for any college team. So it's not really fair to compare those 3 coaches to Zorn, they took a completely different path and had more experience in a more important position with their respective teams. I'm not saying Zorn will do poorly, but to compare him to others that coached with a higher rank is not a fair comparison. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
I'm glad the search is finally over. Kind of strange how the whole process went down, but thats almost to be expected. Now the team can move forward, now the real work begins for the organization. Hopefully Zorn will be successful.
Andy Reid may disagree with you on that.
Not true...he was asst. head coach before he got the HC position. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
It's happened before though
I'm racking my brain trying to come up with any HC that was never any higher than QB coach at the professional level, and never any higher than OC on the college level. If you have some, I'd love to hear who they are, cause this seems almost unprecidented. |
Re: JLC: Head Coach Jim Zorn?
Lol, a Raider fan making fun of our coach. Thats funny, didn't your team hire a college position coach to lead your team?
And aren't they trying to fire said former college position coach? And weren't the Raiders 4-12 last year? The year after they went 2-14? The year after going 4-12? Give me a break. The Raiders have won 10 games in the past three years, the Skins have won 24 in the same period and made the playoffs twice. Give me a break. |

Andy Reid, discussed earlier in the thread.
Not true...he was asst. head coach before he got the HC position.
But what's in a title? Don't know how his duties compared to Zorn's in Seattle. Plus, how many "assistant head coaches" did the Skins have last year? At least three, including Bugel. |
Andy Reid, discussed earlier in the thread.
You are incorrect sir. Please see my other posts, he was qb coach AND asst. head coach before he took over in Philly. Zorn was just a QB coach. While Reid comes the closest, it's not the same. |

They actually groomed Reid, Zorn has not been groomed. |

I'll bet they made him take showers at least once a day! :) |

herm edwerds also went from defensive backs coach to head coach, but he also held the title of ass. headcoach while he was defensive backs coach. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
A head coach is only as good as the coaches and players that surround him. He's got Buges, Byner, Blache and Grey. And doesn't Danny Smith return too? Plus some solid vets in the locker room. It's not all on the HC. Let's remember that. I don't like the hire but I think we'll be fine.

What makes you think he wasn't groomed just because he didn't have the title? |
I'm going to call it right now. The next time we are looking fo a head coach the leading candidate will be...Jim Fassel :)
Too funny. I actually feel a little sorry for JF right about now. DS is probably not on his xmas card list. |

LOL. I was all for him being OC...he deserved the shot, but it's not like he was the QB coach of Peyton Manning or anything. About herm edwards, I'm not sure I want Zorn if he does what Edwards has done in his career. (39-41 with Jets, 13-19 in KC). Sure, Edwards and Reid come close, but are there any other guys that did it like Zorn that we can compare, or are we blazing our own path with Zorn? Again, not saying Zorn is going to fail, I am obviously pulling for him, just curious if anyone blazed this path before him. |
Re: BREAKING NEWS: Multiple Sources Confirm Jim Zorn Named Head Coach
Who is our new OC then?
