Re: Week 5: Lions at Redskins Game Thread
Anyway, thats the answer to why it was stupid for Detriot to burn their final two timeouts. Because 15 seconds left on the clock for your offense if you are succesful is a stupid thing to strive for when the cost of failure is a minute for the Redskins to throw for 40 yards with two timeouts.
I didn't get the purpose behind Detroit using their time-outs on Def either but I tell myself, "Who am I to argue with stupidity?" |
I DO NOT like the playcalling with 1:20 left before halftime.
We'd been moving the ball well, Campbell was on target, Detroit wasn't stopping us in the passing game, and Gibbs sits on it with plenty of time left. Outrageous. Do you think the Cowboys, Colts or Patriots would be comfortable with a 14 point lead with that much time still available? HELL NO. They'd be striking down the field trying to get another score. That's exactly the kind of complacency that separates the winners from the losers.
Keep in mind a couple of things. First, we were keeping it on the ground to force Detroit to use up all of their timeouts...that's smart. Secondly, ARE went out of the game with the pulled groin. So, who are we going to be throwing it to? |
Re: Week 5: Lions at Redskins Game Thread
Who exactly are you going to send deep? 50 yr old Thrash or Reche Caldwell?

There are a lot of fine coaches who would have done the same thing. And, even if one were to say they were being conservative, you also have to say they weren't being so conservative in going for it on 4th down from the 37 yard line. |
Re: Week 5: Lions at Redskins Game Thread
Anyone else having trouble with the HD broadcast?
|
Re: Week 5: Lions at Redskins Game Thread
Like SS says...we need to wait until the 2nd half. While we are doing what we should in the 1st half, we did well in the 1st half vs the Giants, and blew it in the 2nd.

Re: Week 5: Lions at Redskins Game Thread
Ok Clark, way to fire them up...

They didn't want to let the Lions back in the game before the half. Gary Clark inducted into the ring of fame...bout time. He was an amazing WR for us. |
Re: Week 5: Lions at Redskins Game Thread
Hope we don't need that timeout later.

True enough. If Detroit scores 10 points in the second half, people will come out of the cracks and start saying things like, "We might as well go home because we are going to lose," "typical second half collapse," blah, blah blah. We can't expect to contain them all game long; be grateful and amazed that we held the most explosive offense int he league to 0 points in the first half and don't expect a shut-out. |
