I know we aren't going to be world beaters this year. I just hope whoever they pick really makes the most of the opportunity.
Yup. That about sums it all up. Well said. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
John Beck is the second coming of Brad Johnson
|
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
I wonder who does Kyle Shanahan want as his starting QB? My idea is let's go with whoever Kyle wants. Last time we didn't, we got stuck with McNabb.

Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
That's interesting.. Hopefully he can perform at a high level and help us win games without throwing them away.
Shanny is a man of his word. He preaches competition, and no matter how badly he wanted Beck to become the starter. Rex stepped up and performed to win the job. |

Haha.. I was being sarcastic. I believe Rex has what it takes to wins a lot of games for us this year. He looks solid last year, and good in preseason this year. As long as he doesn't turn into the turnover machine he'll be good to go. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
History likes to repeat itself. Some chump from the Giants will injure Rex, then we roll with Beck all the way to the Super Bowl and beyond.:laughing-

That's exactly how I felt, even more that Beck's chances just went up. (If JLC is right it will be the first time in a while that he broke Skins news.) |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Man.. the "what if" scenario starts to pan in as we look back on threads. lol

No, In other words John Beck or Carson Palmer will be starting. |

I hate these old thread bumps
Me too. Thanks for the clarification. I do think Rex will start on Sunday. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Shanahan would have to be crazy to stick with Rex. 4 horrible picks, 9 on the year. It's time for a change.

Rex definitely isnt playing too good but I think QB is the one position where extra time has to be taken before a change is made because of the timing and rhythm of the O. Skins fans are so used to constant change that the second something goes sideways they want a new player in there and in this case I just dont see a change making much of a difference. I think you gotta give Rex half a season. If Beck was a rookie I think I'd make the switch but he's a career back-up who's had his chances and never done anything. The time might come for Beck but to me its still too soon. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
The discussion has been had, but when did Beck have his regular season chance? On a 1-15 team with a HC headed out the door? He stepped in, played poised, and ought to get the next start. Hopefully film study tells the Shanahan's the same thing everyone else saw, that 3 out of 4 of RG's int's were bad decisions. Had he just tucked it, and not forced, the outcome might have been different.

Normally I would probably agree with having some patience and giving him a few more games, but Rex is what he is, and he's only proven that these past few games where he's drastically regressed. It's time to cut the cord on Rex. I think we've seen enough to know he's not going to get any better. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Looks like this might split the locker room. Santana Moss, D.Young, and Jabar Gaffney have all publicly stated they think Rex should remain the starter.
Not.Good. |

Not.Good.
I think you're making a big deal out of nothing. What do you want Santana to say? That they should bench a teammate of his? That'd be worse. He stood by his QB. Said every player has bad games. Just like if he had 5 drops, Rex wouldn't say "well, time to sit his ass and activate Hankerson" |

Outside of a few starts as a rookie in '07 Beck really hasn't had a real opportunity. At the very least he's more mobile, and I can't see him making those knucklehead throws that Rex is prone to. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
The guy we could have easily signed and who should start will be starting tonight for the Dolphins....**keeps fingers crossed that Moore doesn't make him look like a fool**

Maybe he's a game player not a practice star. It is amazing some of the stupid throws Rex makes. I still say that's a function of his being too short. At least there's a QB controversy to keep everyone interested. :) |

Not.Good.
Yeah I don't think it splits the locker room. Once the decision is made, I'm sure the players will support Shanny's decision. Hard to stand up for the way Rex has played. He's terrible and that really isn't up for debate right now. |

There are other guys in the league his height and even shorter that don't throw the dumb INTs he does. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Just as Rex earned the starting job based on his performance, he had to be pulled based on his performance.
I supported Rex as the starter because he earned it, yet I felt that the competition was close. I think that Rex is a finished product as a QB so his continuing development shouldn't be a factor in any QB decision. I also think that Rex is more suited to be backup rather than starter. So let Rex, the backup, backup Beck. It's no big deal, IMO. As for Beck, I wonder if he might possibly develop into a better QB than he is right now with some playing time. I suspect that we may ultimately find out that both of these QB's are NFL backups. But since we don't yet know if John Beck can become starter quality and we can be fairly certain that Rex can't, I say let's find out what Beck can do. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
At the very least we get to have a look at Beck's upside. He's got the arm, the smarts, and the athleticism. I don't think he's gonna be a star, but Rex is and always has been Rex. His ceiling is a middle of the road NFL starter, and we saw his floor yesterday.
I think you could see it on his face on the sidelines after he got benched- Rex knows that barring injury, his days as a starting QB in the NFL are finished. |

He threw one duck, the other one on the replay slipped out of his hand as he was throwing it. Yeah it was his bad, but not indicative of arm strength. Grip strength maybe? |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Hmm. I'll have to go back and watch. Thought I saw a couple.

Maybe there were a couple. I only remember two, one of which was the one I was talking about where it was slipping out of his hands. |

He definitely threw two ducks by my count and couple of low balls. |

I hate to say nerves, but believe it was. Lets see a full game with starter reps and proper preperation. Rex has gotten worse as the season has gone on. Beck, not completely sold either, but lets at least give him a proper shot. |

Good points. In the end Beck is stuck with the same inadequate supporting cast as Rex which is why I am not expecting much difference. |

He threw some ducks but also threw a couple of good deep passes. I just hope he is durable though. He got hurt in the offseason and now he's going to get hit every now and then, so I hope he stays healthy. |
Re: Who do you want to start at QB?
Lets not nit pick a few thrown ducks and give Beck a break for now.
He was put in the game 4th quarter while we were losing to a divisional team. (One that beat us 59-28 last season) If I was the coach I would have either put Beck in at the half or make Rex take the full effect of the loss. Rex still maintains that he can get it done. Personally I think he is borderline delusional. Beck had a tremendous amount of mental pressure put on him going in as well as the Eagle D. I think under the circumstances he did incredible! HTTR! |
