He is asking more than he's currently valued at for his age. He can play under his current contract or stay home and not get paid. His choice. Peters isn't going to cave to his excessive request.
If he is asking for 30 a year he is not asking for too much. I have yet to see or hear anything concrete about what he is asking for though.

Way more than any receiver of his age will get.

metcalf is 5/150, which is 30 annually, but it's really 3/86.5 (~29m annually). he's same production (generally) and 2 years younger though.

Thanks was able to find the article.

Schefter said he “thinks he is looking for considerably more than Metcalf”. Again if he is than hit the road. But what are we offering him? It should be at least 30-31, and as much as 33. Still alot of unknowns here. Ill just pray someone blinks.

We are nowhere near that. I’ve heard reported anywhere from $25-27 million and not even what Cincy gave Higgins.

When receiver D.K. Metcalf was traded to the Steelers, he received a new contract. The five-year, $150 million deal replaces the final year of his prior contract, at $18 million. The new-money average, then, is $33 million per year.

This is a huge reason why it is doubtful that the Terry extension gets done. Steelers basically overpaid for Metcalf. Terry believes, as do many, that he is the superior wr and wants to be compensated as such. Not going to happen with his age. Firmly believe Peters will work with Terry some on the numbers but not to his total demands.

look at the structure of the deal, the last two years are fake. 23m + 5m roster bonus and 30.5m with 5m roster bonus (no guarantees) - that's 63.5m he's never going to see. in 3 years his cash earnings from that deal will be 86.5m. I'm not going to count garbage. If that's the game, let's give terry 200m non-guaranteed on year 4 and he can average 50m/year while making $0.

Every other site is reporting his salary at 33 million average. This is what Terry wants to exceed which Peters won't provide. He will play under his current contract or sit.

instead of being dismissive, why not try to actually understand what people are saying. that link has his contract breakdown, it also says 33m average, but that's a pointless, garbage number. Click on the cash breakdown. after 3 years, he'll have ACTUALLY put 86.5m IN HIS POCKET. His REAL earnings are slightly under 29m/year (over the first 3 years, which is the only money he's ever going to see from this).

Inflating the contract value with money he's never going to get doesn't change that; it's not real.

My original post clearly said AVERAGE annual salary reported by Schefter, yahoo sports, bleacher report and other credible sites. Please read my entire post before you reply. I never said about what DK may or may not see as you seem to have that figured out. His contract was for 4 years not 3. I suppose you are clairvoyant and know he'll only play 3 years for Pittsburgh. Spotrac has the exact same 33 million dollar salary.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/29100/dk-metcalf

D.K. Metcalf signed a 4 year, $132,000,000 contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, including $30,000,000 signing bonus, $60,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $33,000,000.

Terry may sing a different tune real quick if Peters offers more than 33 million AVERAGE as Schefter was saying.

Re: NFL offseason 2025

Please make sure you're reading the post you're replying to. I didn't say that wasn't the average (I even said it is). I said measuring contracts solely on average value is silly, because that has no bearing on actual earnings by the player.

We offer Terry 0m, 0m, 0m, 200m = 50m average, cut him year 3, no cost to us, and he gets a 50m average deal. that's my point. We offer him 90m guaranteed, 0/0/0 base = he makes 90m day 1, and at year 3 he's 3.5m AHEAD of the guy with the 33m average contract (a 12.5mill differential from just taking the averages).

DK's last 2 years are at 29m and 36.5m that have no guaranteed money (and at that point he'll be 30), so that's a very obvious cut point unless he's destroying the league, because you could find someone cheaper. He could be cut a year earlier I guess, but 6m more deadcap, 3m less salary and still under 30. That was mainly to apples/apples since we're generally thinking Terry is wanting 3 years.

Your post below:

"that link has his contract breakdown, it also says 33m average"

Not only are you arguing with a point I never made, but you are contradicting yourself now. I do not want to discuss this with you anymore. Please take it up with Adam Schefter and all these other national sites that are using the 33 million average as a consistent reference. The fact that you are literally acting like you know Pittsburgh will cut Metcalf years prior to his contract end is unbelievable. This is your argument which is invalid since you have no clue how long Pittsburgh will want him for. Metcalf is a dude and nearly 2 1/2 years younger than Terry.

Re: NFL offseason 2025

I'd rather have Terry that DK -- he's older, but a better leader and equally effective. And I imagine that with a better WR2 this year for the first time since he's been here, a better OL, and another year of experience for JD5, he could really light it up.

I really hope this gets done and soon.
