You are right that Forbes can't cover but in my mind nobody who weighs 165 pounds should have even been considered as a draft pick, much less a first round pick over Christian Gonzales. The problem we have at corner is because RR failed to draft Christian Gonzales when he had the chance. Gonzales is far superior to Forbes, and as I said before the 2023 draft, it was a no brainer to pick Gonzales over any other available player if he fell to us. Gonzales was the perfect pick for us and, incredibly, RR muffed the pick. Also, Quinn likes to play press man coverage most of the time and he prefers "run and hit" type players. Forbes just doesn't fit those criteria and I predict he will be gone from here sooner rather than later. |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
Yeah Gonzales would be pretty sweet right now. Rivera was an awful HC and an even worse GM. [emoji2961]

Only RR at this point would care if he was still here because he invested his first round pick in him and want to show he didn't make a bad pick (he did though) |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
You'll talking about a stingbean corner that can't play in Daniels thread. C'mon... lol.

some how this just became the off season thread |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
I'm excited for every season, but normally it's optimism with the truth knowing we will most likely suck again.
This season, there is actually something worth really being excited for. 8 wins or more would be a successful 1st season with a rookie QB and is definitely possible. I think we will at least be a decent team that is competitive most games. Huge upgrade from sucking hard. Excited to see what this offense can look like with Jayden. McLaurin is going for 1300+ this season. |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic. It started with new ownership, then new front office, then new coaching staff, and now we potentially have our franchise QB. It's a lot to take in, in about a year's time.
Can't turn the roster over in one year, but there's no reason we can't be a real competitive team this year if JD puts in the work, and the new coaching staff caters to his strengths. |

I’m expecting around .500 with a lot of close wins/losses. I honestly think the defense could be better much quicker. Having good LBs will make a difference. I swear, I will NEVER understand why Ron and Jack did not just pay Bobby Wagner a couple years ago. |

Ron didn't believe in linebacking. Also optimistic, but not like 12 win optimistic. I'm really not sure on Kliff's offense and still a bit concerned about the OT position. JD balls out and it might not matter. We're probably another year away from (and no QB injuries) from "completing" the turnaround to a good overall base of talent across the roster. |

But I get what you're saying, even with that said Ron and co did a poor job at getting even decent LB talent in here. |

We really should take this Forbes debate to the other thread, but to be clear I'm not saying we should keep Forbes because we used a first round pick on him last year. Worst case scenario trade him for a late round draft pick - somebody will take a flyer on him because things like being on a rookie contract with 3+ years left on it are worth something. If Quinn wants to get rid of him I agree, do it now. His value is already low. But no way he just gets cut. |
Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
I don’t see our cb’s being nearly good enough or deep enough to cut Forbes. We are the ones who will keep him because he is on a rookie contract. If he doesn’t improve then continue to add corners next offseason and get rid of him then.

"I don't think I've had a young quarterback that really has come in and within the first week be like, 'Hey, can we get this rep?' or 'Can we get this rep after practice?' It's exciting for me, because that opens the door … There's an open door of communication, and he's not afraid to get that work in. He's humble, but he's confident in his ability. He's played at the highest level. He's played against really good competition, and he knows that he can make all the throws. He's not putting the cart before the horse. He's literally taking this thing day-by-day."
