Not to take up for our FO but I saw this quote from Vinny today at the pre-draft press conference..
To have one pick, that is why, we knew that going in. That is probably why we were a little more active in free agency and stuff the way we did it because you have to look at the whole picture. You can't just be focused on this. Last year we had ten picks and we did nothing in free agency. We added through the draft. There are a lot of different ways of acquiring players so you have to look at the whole thing and evaluate it when you are starting the season, about how you acquire all your different players.
It seems like they gauge each offseason with a plan based on what they have to work with. Not to say that's the right way but it seems there is some thought and consideration put into what they do.
How many World Championships would Ben Big need to win as the leader of his team to overcome your statistical requirements for him to qualify as a Franchise QB?

I think you've gotten carried away by statistics. Big Ben is certainly a Franchise QB.
Well Big Ben has a contract like a franchise QB, so he must be a Franchise QB

Back to the FO, a couple more recent actions - that may say they know what they are doing:

1-signing H. Smith now. I was one of the guys hoping we would get him early on, when his price probably would have been higher. Instead the FO was patient, and apparently gauged the market for him correctly.
2-ditto with our other RFA's (although since none in the league moved that could be more market then FO craftiness)
3-creating an unstable atmosphere around our 13th pick (while I personally hate all the "high drama" I believe the turbulence gives our FO options on draft day that we wouldn't have had if we had just folded our hands and said we will see what comes our way).

on the flip side if we do really draft Sanchez, then disregard all the above and go back to the original question.

I would certainly agree with you that Snyder is very good at creating an unstable atmosphere. Not just around the 13th pick, but within his own organization. Just look at the unstable atmosphere he created around the starting quarterback position. Sheesh!

If they were putting up a bluff, it certainly has snowballed, but, until draft day tomorrow, we fans won't really know - if we ever do. There are alot of people crying foul over what the FO has supposedly done, but very little substantiated evidence. You say there is an unstable atmosphere around the qb, but really, there is no "qb controversy", JC is the presumed starter, has been given said assurances, there is no one in camp who is competing with him (and after draft day that will probably still be the case). I could certainly be wrong, but really every shred of this atmosphere is media driven, and the funny thing is that if this was all a draft farce, it won't matter to some fans who will forever remember the 2009 draft as a FO failure - even if we end up getting a strong OL/DE combination or a top 4 OT from the maneuverings.

Even if the Redskins make the Sanchez deal, if they can pick up a late 2nd for Campbell (as Smootsmack heard is a potential deal) and can spin that into a couple of thirds, address OT and DE/LB in the third that would constitute success.

If the Sanchez thing doesn't happen and we get Orapko at #13 (he's sliding) or trade down for additional picks to address OT, DE and LB that would also constitute success.

We've got a bunch of chicken little's on the board these days, buying every nugget the media throws out there as if it's gospel and running with it. The next 72 hours are going to be very interesting and entertaining.

True.

My head is spinning right now with all the scenarios.

The only thing we can do is wait and see how it plays out for real. Because right now even the teams themselves have no idea how things are going to go.
