Only if we lose more FAs who sign big contracts this offseason than we sign to big contracts. And a pick between the end of the third round and the start of the first is the MOST we can hope to get in return...
To put that in perspective, with our 3rd rounder in 2008, we drafted Chad Rinehart, a player who, according to JLCs sources, is viewed as a complete bust by our front office. So in essence, in letting Hall walk we can hope to - at best - get a player who can play with our scout team for a year or two and never contribute anything to the team in terms of actually making the active roster and then contributing to the team in games.
Do you by any chance remember that 7th rounder that turned out to be a starter for our team? Just because Rineheart hasn't worked out, doesn't mean that ALL third rounders are not going to work out. Man, I swear, you need to step out, light up a smoke and/or have a stiff drink. You're acting like the worst case scenario has happened to the team. |
Re: For all you D Hall lovers
I'm just throwing this out there. Is it possible that we value Hall more than anyone else? After what happened in Oakland, teams weren't exactly beating his door down. Maybe he should test the market, it is possible he values himself more than anyone else does.
There's a 98% chance Hall is here next year.
We're just bidding against ourselves. I bet Demetric Evans is going to get more play on the FA market than Hall will. |
Re: For all you D Hall lovers
13Mil garaunteed is a STEAL for someone like Hall. Heck, if Springs stays in 2009, he'll have made 15M in garaunteed money in 2 years. The cap continues to rise and people need to adjust their expectations of what is considered "normal" and what is considered "high" pay nowadays. 13M garaunteed is NOTHING for a starting cornerback, even one who is just "average"
Why is it a steal if we could give him like 7 mil guaranteed, and it would still be his best offer?
What team would ever consider giving him more than that? |

What team would ever consider giving him more than that?
you'd be very surprised, the pats and steelers and I want to say two NFC east teams were trying to sign hall when he became a free agent in the middle of the season...According to Zorn though he doesn't think that we'll resign him until the start of FA which means that the chances of him be back in a redskins uniform just got smaller (oh and zorn also said he wants to make kendall a priority to resign, which I don't think so since he doesn't get us any younger...this is when you go sign a stacy andrews ) |
Re: For all you D Hall lovers
There were 3-5 teams interested in Hall after Oakland cut him and Hall did nothing but improve his stock with the time he spent here in washingon. With all the premier cornerbacks now off the market, Hall is THE best CB available. Oaklands contract with aso did nothing but increase the kind of contract hall will get. I think he'll command 8m/year.
Makes sense to me, let him test the market a bit. Unlike some here who think that Oakland's big signing will set the market & give Hall more leverage, I don't think many teams will be willing to go very high for him.
With a potential capless year looming & financial uncertainty in general, not many teams will be looking to shell out big bucks for Hall IMO. All he needs is one team to do so, but if someone wants to guarantee over 13mil for him I hope they let him walk.
I think the Cowboys would love to have Hall. |

That is a fact. Yes he did not do that well in Oakland, but either does anyone. He played great for us. We should have kept him third string and leaked out that he sucked through sources. I think he will get at least 20 mil guaranteed and ten million a year. |

There's a sucker born every minute, that's for whoever signs him. If it's us, then I hope I'm wrong. |
Re: For all you D Hall lovers
From the NFL Combine Blog:
Redskins head coach Jim Zorn hopes DE Jason Taylor will be back for a second season in Washington but doesn’t expect the team to be able to re-sign CB DeAngelo Hall or G Pete Kendall before the start of free agency. NFL.com Blogs » Blog Archive Day 1 wrap-up from Indianapolis « This doesn't sound too promising on the signing of Hall, maybe just posturing, but if Hall is looking for too big a payday then let him get it somewhere else. Guess we should be looking hard at CBs in FA and the draft. Maybe that vet minimum joke about Bly was a bit premature. |
Re: For all you D Hall lovers
NFL.com Blogs » Blog Archive CB Hayden, Colts strike five-year, $43 million deal «
Hayden, who helped the Colts win Super Bowl XLI three years ago, reached an agreement with the team on a five-year, $43 million contract that includes $22.5 million in guaranteed money. Looks like the price tag for Hall may be even more than 6 / $ 44M / $ 18M. At these numbers, I think we may be better served going with a more cost effective alternative. Hall is a big risk at $ 18M guaranteed. While I'd like to see Springs released to free up cap space, we're probably better served to hold him, pass on Hall and see if we can find a better value at CB in FA. |
Re: For all you D Hall lovers
I would love to have Hall back for the road ahead with the skins. However, we should not break the bank to get him. Having said that, I would be interested in signing Hall if the only way to get him is to release Springs to get some cap room to sign him. I love Springs when he is on the field, but a younger corner who plays all year with similar skills is always a better choice. Hey but we're the Skins and I'm sure we will mess this up some how.

Re: For all you D Hall lovers
The way I see it is all of the other teams are resigning there top guys. A punter was just signed for 12 mill. The Skins have paid big$$$ for guys who were
1)OLD 2)slowing down 3)costing draft picks 4)OLD Now we got this young proven pro bowler in Hall who came here and performed fantastic. I don't get it. Pay him. And move on. Or we can get a 8-8 caliber guy for less $$$. Or "hope" for a healthy Springs... Id like to see a post season again some day. |

Re: For all you D Hall lovers
i don't get it. while i think Hall played pretty decent here, he is all of 25? team him up with Rogers, and you are set at corner for at least the next 5 years. pay him, not crazy money, but pay him
