All that drama for $50M max guaranteed?
I think Terry needs a new agent
Totally agreed. I think his expectations were utterly mismanaged. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract (update: deal is done 3 yrs $96M)
So happy that contract got done. Looks pretty good overall and fair. Love the incentive clauses for extra motivation. Terry is a beast and love his fiery attitude. Hope he balls out like never before. He really does have a chance to go down as the greatest wr in franchise history.

Re: Give me your best Terry Contract (update: deal is done 3 yrs $96M)
DK got 62m guaranteed, terry got 44 and change. at the 3year mark DK will have 86.5m cash in pocket, terry will have 75m. they're not super close (if terry is all pro, 87 rec/1097yd/10td every year (AND the team makes the playoffs) it'd go up to 83m).
I do think his agent sucks, and this was all pointless. he ended up w/ 25m cash average over the next 3 years (vs DK's 29). (max incentives TM hits 27m/year cash average) sportstrac: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/29112/terry-mclaurin/contract/cap 30m SB (6m/year proration, including a fake 2029 void year). 10m option bonus in 2026 (pro-rated against annual cap hit, but not deadcap). and 2025/26 base salary (1.75+2.9m) are the guarantees. cap hits: 17.5/18.3/34/39.5/(8.5 while he's a UFA) cut after 2026 saves 16m, cut after 2027 saves 27m (cap hit - dead cap) over keeping him. this leaves us somewhat protected against his production falling off a cliff after 2026. (also up to 2.3m in incentives/y, I believe 300k counts as likely this year). |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract (update: deal is done 3 yrs $96M)
without this deal he would have made ~18.5m this year and 25.8 (NE franchise tag) next year (2y/~44m). So, still a win for terry, but I don't feel like this is a gross overpay or anything. Just horribly handled by TM's agent.
Terry wants to be paid in the Top 5, hence the reason for no deal. There will be no deal and he’ll come crawling back and play out his final year and depart. I don’t expect him to be as effective, as he’ll be disgruntled. Also, wouldn’t shock me if he’s injured for part of the year. He’ll depart in the offseason and we’ll draft his replacement in 26. I’d sign Armani Cooper; whether Terry gets a new contract or not. We need better WR and Armani still has a little left in the tank.
Hope you didn’t spend too much on that crystal ball, it’s clearly broken |

Offense should be awesome this year.

Re: Give me your best Terry Contract (update: deal is done 3 yrs $96M)
Seems like the math is off here. McLaurin got 30m signing bonus AND 50m guaranteed, which adds up to 80m total for the contract.

The $30M signing bonus is part of the initial $44M in guarantees. There's another $6M that will become guaranteed in 2027 if he's still on the team. These are the things agents do to be able to substantiate a headline: I got my client $50M guaranteed. |

Schneed was right . . . the signing bonus was part of the total guaranteed dollars. |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract (update: deal is done 3 yrs $96M)
The total guarantees at signing is $44.65

I think Terry needs a new agent
That's STILL 50m he wasn't going to get previously. |

he would have gotten 44m over 2 years without a contract (15.5m this year (and the 3m he already got) and 25.8m from a tag next year. so over 2 years its about the same, though now it's guaranteed, and he can get another 4.1m for performance stuff (over the next 2 years). nothing past 2026 is guaranteed (though 2027 would be an 18m dead cap hit). |
Re: Give me your best Terry Contract (update: deal is done 3 yrs $96M)
They do have an out in 2 years but let's not pretend an $18 million dead cap hit is insignificant. Still I like this deal from the team's perspective, fans crying "just pay the man" are idiots.
