We had a tornado or damned-near a tornado hit Winchester, VA on Friday night. We had winds that were straight on at 100 miles an hour. Lost power on Friday night, but it came back up later in the night. Yesterday, the electric company said that 14,000 people were still without power, countless others without Comcast TV/Internet. Comcast gave no timeline of when service would be restored. Fox News also reported that at least 14 people were confirmed dead from the storms and they were searcing for others in damaged apartments/townhouses, etc... Very bad and we are hearing rumors that this is the second most destructive storm Winchester has ever gotten, with most of the town sustatining damage of some kind..downed power poles, stop lights, etc... I live next door to my dad and between the both of us, we had 3 trees come down. Spent all day yesterday sawing wood and then half of the evening burning the huge brush pile that had accumulated from the cleanup. We were lucky that our homes and vehicles did not sustain damage, only the trees and some fencing that was torn down.. More high temperatures this week and another threat of serious storms maybe mid-week. |

Re: Stifling States of America: Heat Wave!
I cleaned all the trim (sprayed down with clorox and rinsed off) on my 4500 sq ft office building and it was hot. It was so bad I had to drink Vodka and tonics for the rest of the evening. My wife thought I was drinking water until I started acting a little funny.
I'm surprised at how few claims I have had the past few days but so far I'm not seeing a hugh swing in claims. I did have some up in N Va. and a few around here but only one big claim so far. |
Re: Stifling States of America: Heat Wave!
just got power back last night. 87 degrees in my house yesterday.

Re: Stifling States of America: Heat Wave!
Still waiting for power here. One of the few times I'm super thankful to go to work in the AC. Have to say, I've been reading the Dominion power Facebook page and have never seen a bigger bunch of whining in my life. People act like all these workers are doing is sitting on their asses. The state is in a state of emergency, those people need to lay off Dominion, BARC, Appalachain. Jeez.
It's hot and it totally blows, but there's nothing that can be done right now... |

Saw Dominion contractors up from Alabama, Georgia and North Florida. Thats along drive to work out in 100 degree weather for 10 hours. People need to relax. I can take the power out, Im just super thankful no damage to the house, car and myself. People sense of entitlement and general complaining is just sickening these days. |
Re: Stifling States of America: Heat Wave!
Absolutely. They are acting like it's a personal attack against them. My only advice to them via Facebook is that if you're a highly qualified electrician then you may criticize. Until then, the scope of this thing is so out of control, do you really think they have details of the 300,000 of us left without power?
Anyway, it's been brutal in the house. Love my mother-in-law to death, but I wanna' go hoooooooooooome. |

They should be thankful that Dominion Power Workers are out there in this heat trying to get their power back on. Ever see what these guys have to wear when working on the power lines? They have to be burning up. |

It's hot and it totally blows, but there's nothing that can be done right now...[/quote] Well I can't speak for Dominion, BARC, etc. I can only speak for PEPCO. And...well they get no sympathy from me. If they were better prepared in lesser situations I'd be sympathetic to their plight right now. But time and again they fail to deliver in what should be the most minor of situations. So I honestly don't give a flying **** what they're suffering through right now. Fix the damn problem, it's your ****ing job. If you can't go do something else |

The guys out in the heat restoring power aren't the ones making the decisions that leave the company ill prepared for these types of situations. |
