ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
It’s simple. The offense with a decimated line, loss of McVay, Jordan Reed out, Chris a Thompson out, Doctson out, NO running game, and a defense that couldn’t stay on the field but still operated at a high level last year.
Smith has all of this back this year minus McVay, and can’t perform. What can’t everyone see about this????? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Our defense and AP are the reason we’re at 6-3. Smith has very little to do with that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
With our defense and AP Id Be willing to bet we’d prob still be at 6-3 with McCoy, maybe even 7-2 as McCoy could have won the gun fight with the Colts.

Yeah? And Smith has been benched or replaced by rookies his entire career, and moved to 3 different teams for a reason...have you noticed the improved performance of the offenses he was replaced in?? Reid fleeced us again. He’s brilliant with quarterbacks and got Smith to look a LOT better than he really is. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
"But Kirk did fine last yr"
When in all reality Kirk had 20 turnovers damn near and as much as I liked the guy he padded most of those stats in late game situations. Yes he's the better passer but who is the better decision maker?
He led the league in lost fumbles last year and they seem to come at the most inopportune time. |

Even in his magical season he replaced Smith he did most of his damage with his running. Many QBs regress after their first full season as defenses slowly expose their weaknesses. There is no guarantee that won't happen with Mahomes. |

I think Mahomes is very good but his system is also VERY QB friendly, the one thing he has is a great arm and he's accurate. So I think he'll be good for years. But u are right, this happens so much. I drank the RG3 Kool-aid as most here did and look what happened. |

Want to see something funny? I was looking for news on Devonta Freeman returning this year and found this gem, just goes to show how fans are seriously retarded sometimes: Eky from Lawrenceville, GA Hi, Beek! Big fan, first time contributor. Do you think Matt Ryan is the QB to get us over the hump? Despite always being paid as an elite QB, he always crumbles when put to the test. Occasionally he'll sparkle here and there, but he doesn't have the IT factor. It's even laughable when backups, second- and third-tier QBs, especially from AFC teams come to our home turf and beat us. Also, aside from Aaron Rodgers, he's winless against good QBs like Tom Brady and Ben Rothlisberger. Don't you think the over-a-decade experiment should come to an end? Matt: You’re kidding, right? You’re seriously calling for the end of the Matt Ryan era during a season in which he’s playing as good as (if not better than) his MVP season in 2016? And how can the winningest and most successful quarterback in Falcons history be labeled an experiment? Wow, guys. That’s two back-to-back head scratchers this morning. I’m glad you’re a fan of SFTB, Eky, and glad to have you writing in, but I’m going to totally disagree with you on this one. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
And relating to Matt Ryan, it took him a year to adjust to a new play caller and he's back to his MVP form this year. I'm not saying Smith = Ryan, but the fact remains it's not crazy to think Smith needs this season under his belt and can definitely improve next year in year 2 with Gruden. Adding more speed to the offense will help tremendously too.
Yeah...like letting Cousins and McVay walk. We NEVER had a problem putting up yards and points on offense, it was always the defense the that was the problem. Now we have a really good defense and an idiot at QB with a coach who’s once high flying offense is now dumpster juice
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So are you proposing taking a third year head coach, one that just finished his second consecutive winning season (the first time that has happened since 1996 and 1997 for the Skins) and won a divisional title and canning him to promote the OC? Don't get me wrong I would have loved to have kept McVay but if management had pulled that a. The skins lose any collateral they have been building up in the NFL coaching community pulling shit like that. b. There is no way McVay would take that knowing the exact same thing could happen to him in a few years. Basically the Skins would have lost both their HC and their OC. Could they have given him a "pay raise" position and kept him? maybe but I doubt it. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I don’t recall too many fans being upset over McVay leaving. Fans complained about his red zone play calling and doubted whether he was ready to be a HC at his age. But of course hindsight sure is 20/20.

I don't think too many saw him coming. I think everyone knew Kyle Shanny had much more potential as a HC when he left. |

It has. I tried to resist but took the bait anyways. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
In my opinion, Alex Smith is one of the worse qbs in the league and he's going to prove it today. This man is horrible and should be benched after we get beat down today. If I'm wrong I'll be happy to apologize.

That is because the teams he was on was really good. The 49ers and Chiefs won without him and were more explosive offensively. These are facts. Alex Smith is a damn bum. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Terrible for AS. Can we all unite behind Colt now?
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
I feel much better about this team going forward with Colt McCoy.
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Colt is effective running the offense, all of a sudden receivers started catching balls. Trey Quinn helped quite a bit with 1st down catches.
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
A lot of people i'm sure wanted Colt McCoy to come in, but i do believe that nobody wanted him to come in given these circumstances. I hope that Alex Smith's career did not just end today.
|
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Yeah Alex is done, sucks to see his career end like that. It's back to drafting a QB once again for this team. The redskins are cursed

After that second INT, I was ready for McCoy. I felt the only thing that kept Smith in the lineup these past few weeks had been that he didn't turn the ball over. His two INTs led to 10 Houston points. Still, I feel bad for the guy. If he comes back from this, it would be a miracle. |

Joe tried to comeback, but failed his team physical. Only time will tell. Joe was older too, but not by much. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Let's assume best case scenario is he heals up and is ready for next year.
Do you really wanna bring back a 35yo qb coming off a serious leg injury? Hard pass for me. |

I think we need to slow the roll on ending his career. It’s a 6 month injury typically. |
Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
If I’m not wrong the game where Thiesmann’s leg was broken ended with the same score and happened on the 40 yard line also.

It looked to me like a compound fracture, bottom of his leg was at an angle. |
