Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
Finnegan has made one pro bowl and that was in 08 and he does get beat by good receivers, now those receivers are reggie wayne and andre johnson but I would not be willing to spend the money to keep him away from tampa and other teams.
Vincent Jackson is almost 30 already and big physical receivers don't last as long as other receivers. Plus he seems like I just got paid type of receiver even though some people say he would be willing to stay in San Diego for less, but a holdout does show a lot about your character and priorities. Marcus is coming off two micro fracture knee surgeries... Mike can make running backs and receivers look very good. Rod Smith and Eddie Royal in his rookie year come to mind. Hankerson could very well develop in to a very good receiver as could the possibility of drafting someone like Joe Adams. Again stay away from free agents... go young and trust me you won't regret it. We already had our big offseason splash no need for more. |

That said, I am not too crazy about VJax and would rather have Colston. I do think Hank will develop, especially if we have a true #1 wideout. |
Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
I still say Josh Morgan would be a nice addition at a reasonable cost, he's a sleeper WR with lots of potential.

Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
We're not looking for a splash.
We're looking for weapons. Ignoring free agency with the limited picks we now have would be suicide. |
Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
I think what would really help Griffin is a very good slot receiver in the draft like ryan broyles, a good tight end which we already have and possibly not this draft but next years draft a receiver to stretch the defense vertically, the common thought is you need a true number one but the 49ers, patriots, giants, and ravens didnt have that huge name receiver. Victor Cruz and Wes Welker are slot receivers even though they are great receivers. Depth at receiver is just as good as having one true number one. You could argue Nicks but i wouldn't put him up there yet till he is more consistent.

I think Welker has become a big name receiver for the Patriots, although when they had Randy Moss stretching the field (and scaring the hell out of everyone) they were pretty much unstoppable. As we saw in the SB, Cruz and Nicks were the focus of Darth Hoody's defense, and Cruz is on his way to becoming a big name receiver. My point is that no one on our roster scares an opponent's secondary. With our cap room and the good options out there at wideout, I think it is an opportunity to get a guy like Colston or VJax that will be a threat in the passing game. I am all for being cautious in free agency, but teams that are too frugal with their cap money are not the most successful ones. Neither are the ones tha spend a lot of money, but you have to find a nice balance between the two. |

Don't you think we could do better than that with all this cap space? He doesn't have more than 700 yards and 3 TDs in four seasons. |

Jets = mediocrity for another three years.

I still like the dirty Sanchez, he really hasn't gotten a chance to prove himself. Shottenheimer was too conservative just like his dad, let's judge him after Sparano. |

Most of his numbers were pre-Harbaugh and then he broke his leg last year, from what I've seen this kid has lots of potential. You guys should be familiar with him from his Virginia Tech days. |

I just have seen plenty of times where going after the top free agent or one haunts the team for years. I like the thought of drafting young receivers with a young quarterback and having them growing in the same system and learning the ins and outs of one playbook. |

I think Hank is supposed to fill this role...and if he plays the way he played this season (when he got hurt) then we are set. But Hank is rehabilitating and we may need those draft picks in other areas. And while we have the right to be concern about FA spending, I have yet to see BA give out a crazy a$$ contract the way Vinny did. |
Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
I'd rather have Jackson over Colston.

More than 3. Seriously, what were they thinking? They wanted Manning...weren't in position to get him, so they give a ginormous extension to possibly the worst starting QB in the league? Man, I love when the Jets do this to themselves. Maybe they'll give LaRon $50 million for 2 games on the field. |
Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
Unless things have changed since Saturday, Terrell Thomas is ready to hit the open market.
Tore his ACL twice though and still is not able to sprint. NY Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas hopes for another shot after tearing ACL a second time - NY Daily News
But convincing teams of that won’t be easy. He only began cutting while backpedalling two weeks ago. He can run, but “not a full sprint, just a nice-speed jog.” He can jump, squat, lunge without pain and his knee feels strong. But he also said he’ll likely sit out spring drills, just to make sure his ACL completely heals before training camp starts. “The biggest thing throughout this whole process is being proactive,” he says. “It’s not that I can’t do it, but there’s no need to rush me out there. I’m definitely not rushing to get back out there to prove that I’m back.” Without the proof, though, teams may not be willing to take a chance. Seven months ago, Thomas who led the Giants with five interceptions in 2010 might have been in line for a deal similar to the five-year, $43 million contract extension the Giants gave Corey Webster in 2008. Now? Who knows? Certainly it’ll be a shorter deal. Less lucrative, too. Thomas is still dreaming of something bigger, though, which may be why negotiations with the Giants have stalled. He points out that in 2010 the Jacksonville Jaguars gave defensive end Aaron Kampman a four-year, $26 million contract with $11 million guaranteed, while he was still rehabbing a torn ACL. Although he assured he was "closing in on" a new deal with the Giants nine days ago, he now appears set to hit the open market.
