Re: Smoot Lays the Smack Down (Redskins vs. Panthers)

Yep.. All Becks fault for this loss.. We need a legit QB to fix these issues. I mean, him throwing the ball into the WR/TE's hands for drops, and throwing 100% accurate back shoulder fade routes to WR who also drop them is totally his fault.

Not to mention that horrendous sense of feeling pressure and running in for a 4 yard touchdown? What was he thinking? My Redskins don't do that... They are much more content on taking the sack there and settling for 3 points.

At least Gano is good.. Totally should of kicked that guy off the team last year. What are we thinking? I mean.. Allowing players to develop into good players? Totally disgusted...

John Beck.. WHAT where you thinking when you threw the ball between two defenders and low where only Fred Davis could of caught it for the touchdown? Come on man.. You have only played 5 quarters and you are our leading rushing in touchdowns for piss sakes!!!

It's totally getting absurd that this team is PACKED with talent and our QB is holding us back from winning..

I mean.. Bradford right now is living the life. He's a great prospect to be a great QB. He has all this talent around him, and it shows!!! WR's catching every ball, and having a healthy backfield that can produce yards to help the passing game!!!

Man.. We are on our way folks.. Just a QB draft away!! I'm so pumped.
Forget three years ago, this team is one of the worst talented now.

I don't mind losing if losing is productive in the big picture. Losing isn't fun but watching young guys do well is. We have one young guy playing at a high level: Kerrigan. With pretty much the whole roster being in it's prime, the results are as good as they will get under this leadership. Adding a quarterback in the draft wouldn't have changed the result of today's game unless we could have jumped on them early. No matter what the gameplan ultimately is, you have to be able to throw the ball early to get a lead.
I don't agree that it's one of the "worst talented", and I don't agree the "whole roster is in it's prime". The main difference now vs. three years ago is that Shanny's placed some youth in key positions for the future -- nucleus of our talent is now younger. Orakpo, TW, Kerrigan, etc -- all could get a lot better over the next few years.

Shanny's moves:
- Kerrigan - young, great so far
- TW - young, has shown flashes, still not consistent but overall good
- Bowen/Cofield - relatively young/in prime (27), have at least 4-5 years left, been good overall
- Carriker - young, in prime 27, good overall, gotten for rotating draft picks
- Atogwe - aging 30yo, ?hasn't shown much so far
- Promising youth: Helu, ?Jenkins

Others (non-shanny):
- Orakpo - young, great rusher, below average pass coverage
- F.Davis - young, good TE
- Landry - young, good at strong safety, liability when overpursues
- Aging old guard: S.Moss / Cooley - now average
- aging: J.Brown - 30yo
lol mcnabb gave us about 10 games of the most exciting explosive offense we have seen from a qb in b&g in 15 plus years (minus todd collins 4 or so games). . . id bet money he had the most 20 yards plus plays per attempt of any qb the past 15 years.

pretty sure if he wasnt pulled he was on pace or near pace to set skins single season passing yards record. . .
I measure explosion by touchdowns, not yards. 14 TDs and 15 INTs in 13 games versus 13 TDs and 13 INT in 8. I'll take the latter.
Actually, the idea of a head coach getting fed up with his personnel guy and firing him is pretty funny. The only thing more screwed up than a power structure like that is one where the coach actively prevents himself from building a talented roster.
What happened to the Goodmans or real personnel staff?

doesn't look like the Goodmans are coming. Mo Brown and Campbell are doing a fine job, but Brown is on the short list for some GM jobs

td/int ratio sounds efficiency . . 20 plus yard plays per attempt sounds like splosion to me. mcnubb had like 24 in 7, 28 in 8, 9 in 2. tonka toys man. u aint on my level

What level is that? Because your level is of comprehension is astounding

If you are really going to argue anything in this thread about Mcnabb being explosive when he was just benched for the 2nd time in 2 years by two different teams for throwing balls in the dirt. Then you are as dumb as you seem while reading your posts.

Mark Sanchez had more 20+ plays than McNabb. But he too had under 20 TDs, and the offense he runs was hardly considered explosive. TDs are a part of "explosion".

dang man, jus sayin seemed mcnubbs gave us a big pass play potential this offense seems to be lacking for a long time before his coming up to this year . . outisde of mcnabbs 10 games or so our offense hasnt ever stretched the field or opened things up for a long time . . . dont take yourself or the skins chances to seriously . . this 6-10 team last year is a 6-10 team this year . . till we get a legit qb. i feel sad for anyone taking these losses as a shock or heartfelt. a win here or there? sure. a competitive team? no . .but im the dumb one . . .hahaha maybe

- aging: J.Brown - 30yo
I am saying that young and in-prime are two different things. If you are in your prime (Orakpo, Landry, Hall, Wilson, Carriker, Cofield, Bowen, McIntosh, Hightower, Armstrong, Davis) then a high level of performance is to be expected. Whereas if you are young (Kerrigan, Gano, Barnes, Jenkins, Trent Williams, Hank, Austin, Helu, Paul) then potential matters over substance.

What I'm not saying is: "you are either old, or youre young. And we're old."

If you look at that core and who is contributing compared to the youth, it's just not clear why this core will be better in future seasons. It's a mature core. Kerrigan looks great and has his best days ahead of him, but for every Kerrigan there's a Barnes.

Now, if the core of the roster is good, that's what is reflected in your record. So while we may have good, young players in their prime, what we don't have is a winning team propelled by that core. And so in a field of 32 teams, it looks pedestrian.

The way to turn that around quickly is to make that second list look like a who's who list of tomorrow's pro-bowlers. Right now it's Kerrigan, a kicker, an injured rookie, an injured second year player, and a bunch of guys who need to crack the roster soon to provide optimism. Still plenty of upside there, but each week you get no return out of it sets the franchise back. And it justifies the questions I am asking.

Football players' "growth" can be viewed as climbing a sigmoid function curve. and any debate on "where our team is" can be seeing how many points are on a certain section of the curve.

coaches......

feels like we are just not with the times...

SLO DEVELOPING PLAYS no matter run or pass..... I honestly think we have 4 running plays... and 8 passing plays ... and Thats it... runs get stretched out either go backwards or side ways HALF the time.. barely ever run straight between the tackles... we never Run quick slants in the passing game .... we don't trya tosses.. we don't run counters.. we donyake deep Shots often enough.. seriously don't think we have had a.big play td since 2005....

its absolutely pathetic and looks like a high school offense its a fuxking joke...
Let me answer for Smootsmack- Hell no. I'll be the first to admit, MS has bungled the QB situation to an extent. However, look at the steamy pile of ish of a football team he was handed. An old, crappy roster bereft of speed and talent. You can't turn that around in 22 regular season games. We're getting younger and faster, but this team was so badly in the toilet when the current coaching staff took over. You don't hire a 2x Super Bowl champ only to fire him so quickly.

Things take time. And for god's sake, he's 3-3 not 0-6.

Also, who in the media is calling for Shanny's head?
Finally someone who understands where this team was and how its going to get to where it wants to be.

I think the rest of the year Smackdown award goes to GMScud. Poor guy has to try to think of what to post in his Stud thread every wek for the rest of the year! Can you say writers block?
