The Best of the Best in 2008 (so far)?

Don't know how many of you watched the Nadal vs Federer final from Wimbledon on Sunday, but it was awesome. One of the greatest tennis matches I have ever seen. Both guys played excellent tennis for over 5 hours before Nadal finally won, denying Federer a chance for a 6th consecutive Wimbledon title.

Anyhow, it continues a phenomenal year in sports. And leads to our poll question.

What has been the best championship of 2008?

1. Giants Deny Patriots' Bid for Perfection with Super Bowl Winning Drive

2. Kansas Comes Back from 9 down with 2 minutes left to win NCAA Men's Basketball Championship in OT

3. One-Legged Woods Wins US Open Golf Championship over Rocco Mediate in sudden death following an 18-hole playoff

4. Wimbledon

Have to go with Wimbledon on this one. The first two were choke games. If Tiger were healthy then it wouldn't have even been close. With Nadal and Federer, both were at the top of their game and neither one backed down.

The Super Bowl, it was an epic upset from the only sport that matters.

Great thread. I didn't realize there were so many great sporting events so far this year.

I said Superbowl, first because it was a great game that came down to the wire. Second, because it was such a huge upset.

The only thing close has to be Wimbledon ... Nadal beating Federer on grass was a big upset, but Nadal is #2 in the world, so it's not that big of an upset.

Tiger in the Open.

On a torn ACL? 91 holes? Making two 50-foot eagle putts, plus a birdie chip-in, over the course of the 6 final holes on Saturday to go from 5 down to one up on the competition? Making that clutch 12 footer to force a playoff on 18 on Sunday? Making another clutch putt on 18 to force yet another playoff after the 18 playoff on Monday?

Greatest sports performance of the year. Maybe the most impressive I've ever seen.

I went with Wimbledon as well. That fifth set was amazing! Just about every time it looked like Nadal might break Federer's serve Roger would rip an ace down the center of the court. And how it seemed like Nadal was literally all over the court.
I don't play tennis and I only figured out that I enjoy watching it when it's played at the highest level a few years ago but I think that match has to go down in history as one of the best ever.

The Super Bowl and NCAA Championships were great finishes, but I don't know if overall it was a great game. In each case, I don't believe the two competitors were playing at an absolute top level. I do feel that Wimbledon was that way. Great points about the US Open though.

I watched the entire Wimbledon.

I rarely watch an entire tennis match (probably my 2nd or 3rd one) but just got hooked on that game.

Blew my mind away.

The super bowl was awesome... but Wimbledon had me saying "NO WAY!" probably 20+ times. Great match.

Agree 100%, that's why I cast my vote for the Open

I think the Celtics game four come back should be in the voting as well.

I have to say the SB. I like Tiger but have Tiger burn out " Thanks announcers". Not into either of the tennis players so the match was not of big interest. I will say what I did see it was some of the best tennis played for some time. I don't like basketball.

NOT!!! J/k I'm a Lakers fan.

I would have to go with the Super Bowl If the Pat's had won that game they would have gone down as probably the best team ever. I hate all the front runner Pat's fans that say they’ve always loved the Patriots. They must have all been born in the last 8 yr's because I sure don't remember them growing up.
So for me it was one of the only days in my life I let myself cheer for the Giants just to spite all the front runners that go to my local sports bar.

Funny!

I grew up in RI and there were no Pats fans then. All my friends liked the Giants. the Pats even to this day in New England sports is a third horse to the Red Sox and the Celtics, I would even argue a fourth horse to the Bruins (if the Bruins were doing anything).
