Redskins Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down

I looked for some. I really did. I scoured the game action and the stats for a player or two deserving of a thumbs up after this latest atrocity against Redskins fans. But nothing came up. The easy go-to guy, MLB London Fletcher, made some nice tackles, but was victimized too frequently in pass coverage

Thumbs up: Doughty for his first NFL pick

Thumbs down: Landry

Thumb middle: O-Line. They just aren't any good. They protected a little better than against the Giants, but they're just not any good.

Re: Redskins Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down

The Giants played the Panthers yesterday. That is the same Giants' team that pantsed the Skins a week ago.

The Panthers' O-Line had ONE starter from the beginning of the year playing - - the Skins had TWO starters from the beginning of the year playing a week ago.

The Panthers ran the ball for over 200 yards and dominated the game; the Pantehrs won by more than 4 TDs. The Skins lost 45-12.

The Skins' OL cannot ever be given a "Thumbs Middle". If everyone played over their head for an entire game, that crew would be "barely adequate".

That's why I gave them "thumbs middle" they played to the level of their limited abilities.

Thumbs up: London Fletcher, the guy never gives up.

Thumbs down: Coaching staff and FO for not playing the young guys so we can evaluate their worthiness. It is time for GM Allen to sit down with the coaching staff and break the news to them that we are not making the playoffs. It is time to play the kids.

With all the injuries aren't we playing enough young guys as it is?

Besides, this staff is outta here so they really don't care about evaluating for the future.

If they want to remain in the NFL they have to come in everyday and work hard. This isn't the first coaching staff in history to know it's going to get fired at season's end. It's an unfortunate part of any sport but if they want to remain part of the league then they can't tank it.

I don't care what anyone says about Zorn as a coach but he is a good dude. He wants to be good at this and he wants to prove it. He isn't going to tank it and he won't let his offensive staff tank it either. I think he apparently gets no influence over the defensive side of the ball so he should be absolved of anything that happens there.

No doubt I agree.

It just has to be tough putting in all those hours knowing that your time is quickly coming to an end. And there's the stress of moving, selling a house perhaps, finding a new job, etc. Obviously those things come with the territory for being a coach, but still it's gotta be hard. And all of these things are coming to a head around holiday time.

Oh yeah, it's unbelievably hard. No question. Especially when everyone in the public knows about it too.

Thumbs up for our young players stepping in and stepping up while our starters have been out injured.

Thumbs down to pretty much everything else.

Re: Redskins Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down

Couldn't Snyder have averted the tough spot that the coaches and players are in by getting gentlemen's handshakes from Allen and Shanahan (or whoever) and just had one huge day of firing and hiring next Monday? I know a handshake is not a contract, but he still does not have an official contract with Shanny.

While I don't necessarily disagree with Snyder's moves, his timing creates many problems, such as uncomfortable positions and an end-of-year downward spiral on the field.
