Smile The Replacements (2000 Keanu Reeves Movie)

Was bored tonight, just watched this movie. I have to say I think it gets better each time I see it.

Any film buffs know how close in relation to the real life 1987 players strike this movie really was? I have heard rumors that the studio wanted to use NFL teams, logos, etc, but it was too expensive.

The ending still kinda bums me out even though it was supposed to be happy. I mean it looks to me like they've got a competitive team that has heart and great team chemistry. You would think some of those guys would be kept by the Washington Sentinels if it were real life. McGinty stays on as Head Coach, Nigel Gruff would have one of the strongest legs in the league, Shane Falco could have been a great backup QB, maybe even B level starter....

Someone who has seen the movie: Is it stated that McGinty made a deal that keeps Shane on the team as a backup QB? This last part really bugged me as it seemed that he had recovered from his earlier failure in the pros (which was largely stated was due to an inferior offensive line) and you would think some team would take a chance on him even if he didn't stay in Washington....

Great movie btw....

The only reason I love this movie is because it's based on the Redskins!

It's alluded to that they didn't give him a deal because the lockout ended and the regular guys came back. For Falco it was just a second chance to be what he didn't get a chance to be earlier in his career. To be honest, after the glory he had as a replacement, I think he probably wouldn't of signed on anyway. Falco went out on top.

This movie was awesome. I watch it every time I see that it's on.

I think I'm the opposite. Each time I see that movie, same as Any Given Sunday, I'm like "really? I used to think this was good acting?" Keanu Reeves only knows how to play one type of character, and sometimes it works (Point Break) and sometimes it doesn't (here). Almost every time I see one of his movies I think of this MadTV skit:
