Is Brett Favre starting a trend for old QB's?

Watching Brett's play at the beginning of last season and this season really got me thinking.

Is Brett changing the moniker of "It's a young man's game"?

I think he is showing that age is nothing if you can play well and you take care of yourself. Would love to see other greybeards like Garcia, Collins, and Kurt Warner continue playing as long as they are able to....

No. I think Favre is the exception and will not become the rule... although i'd love to see Manning have such a long career.

QB is a position that takes years to master, so it's certainly not uncommon for the 30+ crowd to be the top QBs in the game. However, Favre is a bit of a freak to be playing this well at age 40.

Top 10 QBs in 2009 to date (based on Rating) are as follows:
Brees (30), Favre (40), Rivers (28), Rodgers (26), P. Manning (33), Schaub (28), Roethlisburger (27), Romo (29), McNabb (33), Brady (32).

Aside from Favre and Warner (38), the trend really doesn't exist and they are certainly exceptions to the rule. What is also helping these 2 old farts are offensive lines (Favre's been sacked 27 times, Warner 20) and the young (sub-30 years old) receivers these guys are throwing to (Favre has Berrian, Harvin, Rice; Warner has Fitzgerald, Boldin, Breaston).

i cant fathom another Q-back lasting as long as Favre. and to have that many consecutive starts, especially the way they get hit....

I could see P. Manning doing it personally. I dont know about Brady or the other top guys in the league right now. But Peyton could be around another 8 years give or take one or two. He seems to really love the game and hasn't had any major injuries.

Favre will probably prove to be the exception rather than something we could look to see continue as a trend.

I only know of one other QB that played at 40 and beyond, that was George Blanda. He spent his latest years as a FG kicker, but he also served as back-up QB to D. Lamonica.

Dave Kreig, Vinny Testaverde, Warren Moon, Trent Green...all a few of the older QBs who came before Favre.

He's not starting a trend, he's just one of many who have done the same. Now Brett is competing at a much higher level at the older age, but he's not the first QB to play well into his 40s.

I think Frank Tarkenton may be one of the "founders" of the feat.

What annoys me most about Favre are

1.) The fact that he doesn't get retested to keep his roster status

2) He doesn't get punished for intentional grounding because "of his age".

3) He thinks people owe him something.....

I had actually forgotten about Testaverde. He's the oldest QB to ever start and win a game in NFL history. Moon, Kreig are slightly younger, Green is only 39 now. Tarkenton, Blanda and Testaverde all share the distinction of being the oldest QB's to play in the NFL.

hate to turn this into a JC thread but those ages really stand out since JC turns 28 this year so he could really be right at the turning point, and he does seem to be playing like the light is turning on. It would be a shame to give up on him (even I had done as much by the 6th game) just when - age wise- he "gets it"

Is it really so wrong to wish for fairness when it comes to the laws regarding older people?

for example...if i lose control of my car and hit and kill a pedestrian, i am going to face charges and/or lose my license. But if I am 85 and do the same thing, nobody does anything to me....why is that fair?

Sorry about your friend. And I don't know all the facts on it so I won't speculate. But your wrong in saying that an elderly person would not face any repercussions. Your one incident does not reflect the norm
