RIP Bobby Beathard

Loved this guy as much as Joe Gibbs, he hired Joe and surrounded him with talent. RIP Bobby Beathard

Re: RIP Bobby Beathard

Beautiful thread SF. Not a single guy in Skins history more deserving. Beathard was the man behind the men. Without him there is nothing in the Superbowl era for us to cling to. Immortalized in the HOF and our hearts. My God did he have a knack for recognizing talent. I have been waiting for over 30 years for someone with half of his football IQ to come back to this organization and I’ll be waiting fir the rest of my life because he was one of a kind.

We had a guy that was starting to get better with his drafts and I thought had a really good eye for talent and would love to get him back. Kyle Smith

Re: RIP Bobby Beathard

No doubt one of the best GM's to ever do it. He had some incredible drafts.

Re: RIP Bobby Beathard

Classic BB and JKC exchange regarding hiring Joe Gibbs, the rest is history

“Who in the hell is Joe Gibbs?” Beathard recalled Cooke asking him, during an NBC interview. “‘If we hire a guy named Joe Gibbs, they’ll never forgive us. You’re going to be fired.’ I said, ‘No, just stick with it.’”

RIP Bobby!

I'm probably not a Washington fan today if it weren't for him. When I moved to N VA in the early 80s those Redskins teams were easy to root for because they were great. Like Punch eluded to, it's about all I have to cling on to these days other than hope.

He was fine, but I'm pretty sure I would take our last two drafts over the Falcon's last two drafts, and I don't think it's even close.

2021

Round 1, pick 4 – Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
Round 2, pick 40 (from DEN) – Richie Grant, S, UCF
Round 3, pick 68 – Jalen Mayfield, OT, Michigan
Round 4, pick 108 – Darren Hall, CB, San Diego State
Round 5, pick 148 – Ta’Quon Graham, DT, Texas
Round 5, pick 182 – Adetokunbo Ogundeji, DE, Notre Dame
Round 5, pick 183 – Avery Williams, CB, Boise State
Round 6, pick 187 – Frank Darby, WR, Arizona State

2022

Round 1 • Pick 8 (8) • WR Drake London.
Round 2 • Pick 6 (38) • EDGE Arnold Ebiketie.
Round 2 • Pick 26 (58) • LB Troy Andersen.
Round 3 • Pick 10 (74) • QB Desmond Ridder.
Round 3 • Pick 18 (82) • EDGE DeAngelo Malone.
Round 5 • Pick 8 (151) • RB Tyler Allgeier.

Solid picks in my opinion, we'll see how the falcons do next year. I would judge him on the 2022 draft since he left early in 2021 and I'm sure the falcons already had their board.

Well said! Gibbs gets a lot of the credit, but without this guy, Joe couldn't have accomplished what he did.

Quite literally because he wouldn’t have been here….

“In 1981, Beathard hired an unknown assistant on the Chargers staff named Joe Gibbs to be Washington's head coach — but first he had to convince owner Jack Kent Cooke that Gibbs was the right man for the job.”

Gibbs was the man. But Beathard knew this before anyone did.
Arguably the greatest HC, GM duo in NFL History.

Now we have Ron Rivera and Ron Rivera lol.

Yeah, but I take Ron's bad personnel calls ten times over the fuckery that was Vinny Cerrato.

RIP Bobby Beathard…

Instead of the Trio of Gibbs, Beathard, Cooke…we got Snyder, Commanders & Tuddy
