Re: South Carolina vs. LSU Ref Forearm Shiver

My first thought when I saw that was those bud light commercials where in the defensive huddle the leader says,"alright guys whoever stops them here gets a cold bud light on me", and the ref stands there listening and then during the play the ref tackles the offensive player and then you see him sitting on the sidelines drinking a cold one.

Since those are two legit college teams though, I guess I'd just have to say wtf? I think if a ref did that then South Carolina should have a legit complaint for the ref interfering with the play. The ref has no right to do that, he should move out of the way if he sees a player coming at him like that.

The kicker is this guy wasn't even disciplined by the SEC. They say he was protecting himself, but why did he step forward, put his arm up, and give him the business?

Because he had two choices: 1) Curl up in a ball and cower like a girly man; or 2) step up, brace himself and be ready to drive back into the hit.

If it had been Ed Hochuli, the running back would STILL be lying on the field.

How about staying put or taking a step back away from the play?

Are you kidding me? We are not watching the same clip. he took a shot at the player, why cant he move backwards and/or towards his left? he still would be standing and not disrupt the play.

One of the more bizarre things I have seen in sports.

Gotta agree with you on this one. It looked like he was shuffling directly in the way of the ball carrier. I think he had a flashback to his playing days.

When I first watched it, I didn't think anything of it...just a ref protecting himself. Then I watched it again...that ref looked like he was in an Oklahoma drill and wasn't letting Garcia get past him.

It's very odd. He clearly steps forward and is watching the player come at him, he lines him up and hits him.

< sigh > I guess I forgot to note the sarcasm font again.

Yes. He should have stepped back and completely avoided the play.

Re: South Carolina vs. LSU Ref Forearm Shiver

This is crazy. There looks to be no intentions of getting out of the way and he appears to be actually initiating the contact and doing it TO take the SC player down! It looks like something out of the Water Boy. If a player took someone down like this it would probably be an unsportsmanlike penalty!

How he wasn't disciplined is amazing. He has to be from Louisiana.

I like the one comment "Maybe the guys at Buffalo wild wings wanted the game to go into overtime."

I was waiting for him to stand over the player and taunt him some then point to the sky as he pounds his chest. I guess he is more of the stickum and walk away type player.
