possible solution

1. Fire Vinny Cerrato now. (at this very second)
2. Hire Mike Holmgren as President of Football Operations.
3. At season's end, terminate Jim Zorn's contract.
4. As soon as the season is over for the Arizona Cardinals bring in Russ Grimm for an interview. As a minority candidate, interview Greg Blache. Another possible candidate should be Jim Harbaugh (Current coach at Stanford) All are level headed, and tough coaches who would give the Redskins a competitive identity and motivate the players to play up to their talent level and potential. Also, both understand the correct way to build a championship program.
5. Whomever is chosen as the 28th Head Coach will be allowed to choose his coaching staff and should have at least 50% input on personnel decisions.
6. Re-sign Jason Campbell to a one year contract.
7. Through FA acquire 3-5 OL and a few backups including QB Chase Daniel (if the Saints do not sign him), and possibly a DB and an OLB.
8. With the top ten pick, select one of the many sought after OL including, but not limited to, such prospects as Russell Okung (Oklahoma State), Trent Williams (Oklahoma), Charles Brown (USC), and Bryan Bulaga (Iowa). With the rest of the draft choices, select 2-3 more OL, a QB, and depending on the draft board, possibly a DB, a LB, or a RB/WR.

Holmgren seems almost certain to return to Seattle.

Re: possible solution

Blache is likely to retire after this season. Russ Grimm is not qualified to be a head coach.

Re: possible solution

So you want to Hire Mike Homgren and then fire his friend Jim Zorn ?

Yeah, that seemed a true Madden move, no consequence, no basing on real interpersonal reactions.

Just curious, hate to be a but wasn't there a number of other suitable threads. I would guess this scenario has been discussed ad nauseum somewhere on this site.

(but maybe i saw it on a bus )

Re: possible solution

All solid moves with the possible exception of the Holmgren move. It's solid, but not likely I guess.

Blatche is a great coordinator but if he's going to retire...what about Jerry Gray for DC?

With the possible exception of replacing Carlos Rogers, the D is solid.

I think this has become the new "Let's trade Campbell for Simms".

Re: possible solution

RB has become a major issue. I say take the first 2 rounds you take best at position between RB and OL.

Ruskell resigned as GM yesterday, so this could happen anytime soon.

This is a like a recap of several threads (side note: maybe we should start having thread mashups in the parking lot. wouldn't that be something?)

1. Seems like that's everyone's solution
2. Ok...though I don't think he's coming here (I don't think Seattle is a lock for him either)
3. Why not let the new President of Football Ops decide what he wants to do with the head coach?
4. Again, why not let the new President decide and maybe I read it wrong but it seemed like you only wanted to interview Blache as a token candidate. Why waste his time and ours
5. We've had 28 coaches? Really? Wow
6. Nothing to gain in my opinion from another one-year contract. But again, why not let the new President (and head coach) decide?
7. Any 3 OL? Because you know last off-season we signed Dockery, Jeremy Bridges, and Mike Williams for the OL. Plus Edwin Williams. We also signed a couple of running backs in Dorsey, Mason, and Alridge. Granted, not all those guys are still here
8. I love the Hawkeyes and therefore am a Bulaga fan...but he's not a top 10 worthy pick. Also, based on points 7 and 8-you want to add about 9 offensive linemen?

My solution would be:

1. Hire a President of Football Operations.
2. The President of Football Operations decides everything else on your list.

We'd be foolish to take a RB in the 1st or 2nd round behind anything less than a top 10 offensive line. RBs have such a short shelf-life, you dont want to use a pick that high on them unless you have a dominant line. I think a 4th-5th round RB will do just fine for us in 2010. If we get the QB and OL situation solidified in 2010, then i'd be all for taking a 1st or 2nd round RB in 2011.

Just the old stand-by thread when there's nothing else of particular interest to discuss.

Under no circumstances do I think Mike Holmgren would be the freak for punishment that Zorn has become.
