Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Alright, everyone is talking about it, so let's talk about it here.

I saw it yesterday, thought it ranks right up there with Empire as the best one yet. Easily better than all the prequels, no question. The hype was tremendous but I thought JJ Abrams pulled it off. Definitely excited to see where it goes from here.

Highlight for spoilers: Bummed that Han died, so is Rey actually Luke's daughter? They obviously have some sort of ties. Glad that Kylo Ren didn't die, looking forward to seeing his character develop more. Easily the best looking Star Wars to date. Lucas got way out of control with all the CGI in the prequels. Abrams stayed true to the Star Wars heritage, even if the movie was pretty much a re-do of a A New Hope, I liked how it payed homage to the tradition of the franchise, yet moved things forward at the same time. I didn't look at my watch once during the whole movie, I didn't want it to end! Hope Luke has a bigger role in the next one.

JJ Abrams is the key...can't wait to see it. Probably wait for the hype to die down.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Saw it this morning.
Wow.....
It lived up to the hype.
I think we're back on track here. *Applause*

Spoilers -

Rey - who is she?
Thats the big question.
I think she will be the focal point for quite while.

Kylo Ren - He'll be back.
I bet he's hella pissed at Rey.
Is Rey his cousin?

Chewie - He kinda got beat up in this movie which is surprising, hes a good shot but wasnt really a badass in this movie. But in human years hes at least 70 years old or so. Nice to see him use that Bowcaster finally.

The Death Star....turns out it was actually kinda small.

The Storm trooper deployment/landing was just like the Normandy landings.
Google "Higgins boat" if you dont know what I mean.

Han Solo - well....how old is Harrison Ford....maybe too old to hold up in any more movies?

All the combat scenes were awesome.
The TIE fighter theft scene was excellent!

The first Star Wars came out when I was in high school.
Been a fan all my life.
And I gotta say when that soundtrack started up and the giant text started rolling the hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up.

I've got it right on par with ROTJ.

Empire, ANH, and ROTJ/TFA tied for the 3 spot. Maybe slight edge to ROTJ.

What a fantastic movie. I loved how much restraint JJ Abrams showed. Everytime he started to ramp up the lens flares and shakey camera work- he would dial it down. I thought from a cinematic standpoint it was brilliant.

Plot / editing felt a bit rushed at times, but I'm not going to complain. I enjoyed every second of it.

Highlight for spoilers.

Regardless of who Rey's parents are, we are at least set up for a big reveal. I personally think she is Han and Leia's daughter. Kylo didn't have the courage to kill his own sister when he turned, so he drops her off on Jakku. They assume she was killed by Kylo early on- so they don't mention her directly in the movie.

Maybe Obi Wan or Luke had a side piece back in the day? Luke slaying some tail back at the Hashi station? No clue. Either way we are good for a big reveal.

I admit I had a little lump in my throat at that moment. I was 5 when the first one came out, I've got some good memories of my Dad taking me to see all the originals. Grew up a huge fan, had all the toys and figures, posters in my room, etc.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I thought it was pretty damn good as well. I have to say Rey is definitely earning a spot as a favorite character for me. Will probably be seeing this another 2-3 times.

Highlight for SPOILER related stuff: I was EXTREMELY disappointed they used Captain Phasma so little. Holy fuck they did nothing with her. General Hux's speech to the new order gave you that Hitler/Nazi feel which did a great job painting the New Order as a truly evil empire. I can't wait to see Rey once she's trained by Luke. You can tell she's very strong with the force. Even more so than Kylo Ren. I wonder who Snoke ends up being. It's not like he's Sith, but obviously he's a force wielder of some sort. Sad to see Han go, but I guess it's another step into Ben's journey to the dark side. Great scene though watching him talk to his dad with the inner fight going on inside with the light/dark. Definitely a great build up.

As far as Rey goes, there isn't any connection to her with Luke or Leia in regards to family. In the EU universe, Han and Leia had twins. Both ended up being jedi, but one (the son) turned to the dark side and the girl turned to the light. I highly doubt they'll go down that path because this isn't like Luke/Leia situation where they hid them to protect them. Besides, Luke would have never been married because attachments/love is against the Jedi code and a huge reason Anakin fell to the dark side.

I saw it with my dad, we saw a new hope on opening day together back in 1977.
