ufl...why

if you are reading this then you are probably a football fan. i consider myself a pretty big football fanatic, but what is up w the ufl? seriously whats the point? unless they play in the spring i think it will die off like all others have. someone brought it up in a thread earlier and i was just curious if anyone even cared about the ufl

i included an article and a video, apperently they lost over 30 million in the first year, watch the video and you can see why, i have seen high school games with more people there

Well I think they're gradually adding more team. If they set it up right, and I know the UFL and the NFL are talking, it could potentially set up as a sort of minor league system for the NFL

It's not an easy thing to launch a new league. It's going to take time.

Re: ufl...why

Different people try this every few years...I remember the XFL, the WFL trying to get going...UFL, etc...

People actually can get too much of football. I would probably love to have it year round, but after a while, i'd watch something else.

There isnt a substitute for the NFL....nor is there a competitor. Nothing is ever going to be a serious competitor or threat to the NFL...and there never will be, i don't think.

Re: ufl...why

If the NFL links up with them as SS says it could work as a minor league system. Otherwise it's a long shot at best.

But that's not the UFL's goal. The slogan that I heard a few times was "where the future stars come to play." The UFL is very much trying to become a minor league to the NFL from what I've heard on Sirius. With that in mind, I think the league could be a success, but they'd have to work with the NFL, rather the NFL would have to work with them. If that happens, it could be a success.

On a different note, I feel that if they really want to be "where the future stars come to play" why are Tatum Bell, Quinn Gray, JP Losman and a host of other NFL wash outs the best players in that league?

I've just switched to hockey. The Redskins have taken way to many years off my life.

Right, like if the Skins' had a couple guys they had "rights" to who were young and like on a practice squad or something, I'd probaboly check it out to see how they do... I'm not say I'd catch every game, but it would be at least sometihng I'd look at if I had nothing to do.

Re: ufl...why

Because we have a cap, we cant do relegation with a minor league, but that would be an idea if we go uncapped for a long time. It works well overseas.

Re: ufl...why

What about the Arena League? Are they back in business net year? I would love for them to merge with the NFL and have the team wear there unis. Maybe there could be a decent Redskins team.

Re: ufl...why

I just hope the UFL teams get a better mix of uniform colors in the future. The games look like inter-squad scrimmages.

Re: ufl...why

UFL has a chance to become the new NFL Europe, possibly with a better fan base. Who knows if it will work out though. I watched two of the first games and was honestly impressed; it moved more fluidly and there was more of an even level of play across the whole team, which is a big gripe that I have against college football.
