RIP George Steinbrenner

No link yet, but AP is reporting he suffered a massive heart attack and passed away this morning.

He's a polarizing figure to be sure, but undoubtedly one of the most important figures in sports of the past four decades

Here is the link to it:

George Steinbrenner, New York Yankees owner, dies at age 80 - ESPN New York

Quote:
The New York Daily News reported that Steinbrenner died around 6:30 a.m. ET Tuesday in Tampa, Fla.

WABC-TV in New York reported that Steinbrenner, the Yankees' owner since 1973, suffered a massive heart attack.

Steinbrenner, who celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4, was taken to a Tampa hospital after emergency crews responded to his home Monday night.

Steinbrenner gave his sons, Hal and Hank, day-to-day control of the team in late 2007.

Under his ownership, the Yankees have won 11 AL pennants and seven World Series titles.
Being a Red Sox fan I kind of hate to say it, but this guy was one of the best owners in all of baseball. He cared deeply about winning and his Yankees won.........alot! RIP George Steinbrenner.

Wherever they are in the afterlife, there's little doubt that The Boss has already fired Billy Martin.

I hate the Yankees more than any other team in sports (including the Cowpokes), but I'm still human. RIP Mr. Steinbrenner.

Re: RIP George Steinbrenner

RIP Steinbrunner.

That said, im looking forward to how his estate documents are set up. With the repeal of the estate tax this year his 1.5 billion could pass to his heirs estate tax free. But if it just goes to his wife then its not gonna make a difference (except she gets no step up). But if it goes to his kids they get it estate tax free, but they also don’t get a step up in basis, which could oddly enough cost them more then the estate tax depending on what the Yankees were worth back when George bought them. Of course they will only pay more in taxes if the Yankees were purchased on the cheap and they sell the team before they die. I wouldn’t be surprised if special planning was done just for this year, it should be interesting.

Re: RIP George Steinbrenner

Definitely not a Yankees fan but R.I.P. George Steinbrenner. Say what you will about how he acted but like one of DC's most polarizing figures he loved to win.

Re: RIP George Steinbrenner

this is classy...
NEW YORK — Rush Limbaugh had his own view of George Steinbrenner.

"That cracker made a lot of African-American millionaires," the radio commentator said Tuesday on his show after the New York Yankees owner died at age 80. "He fired a bunch of white guys as managers left and right."

Re: RIP George Steinbrenner

Can't we just deport all of the hatefull people to a country where hatred is a way of life? I am thinking somewhere warm like the middle east. Or if we could just deport them all off of the plannet.
