However, we have some guys coming up that will require big money. Alf Mo, RG3, and Jordan Reed will all likely require fairly hefty contracts. Not to mention Kerrigan on the defensive side.
I agree. Folks, we had more than enough cap room to sign Rak if we truely wanted to this offseason. We took the other option.

I don't want to see Orakpo leave, period. He's an elite pass rusher, and the best we have. If the pass rush is going to be the focal point of our defense, you don't let him walk unless he has outrageous salary demands, as in 15 million a year.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

I think the Redskins were targeting Marcus Smith, who the Eagles drafted in the first round. Smith is a boon or bust type of player. One thing that stands out about him that you can't deny is - he's got a lot of speed. I'm hoping that he doesn't have enough strength on the nfl level.

Trent Murphy is the less flashy type of player. He'll quietly produce, which in alot of ways will be good - especially for his teammates.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

Michael Sam is not a better pass rusher than Murphy. He may be faster and more explosive, but Murphy is stronger, has longer arms, and uses this and his hand technique to his advantage. Being a different kind of pash rusher will make it a bit harder for the opposing offensive linemen to handle.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

There was an analyst earlier in thread who compared him to Jared Allen, who was a 4th round pick in 2004 who ran a 4.7 40. Below is a SI.com review of Allen in 2004. Who knows what Murphy will do, if he will live up the 2nd round drafting spot -- but I'm hoping he does..

Quote:
Jared Allen:
NEGATIVES: Overall game lacks explosion, a closing burst to the ball carrier and strength. At times easily ridden from the play or handled at the point.

SI.com - 2004 NFL Draft - Jared Allen

Check out this highlight at 5:10seconds. He really mauls the RT & jumps over him, hope he does this for us..

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

Starting to like this pick more and more, probably because of the similarities I see between him and JJ Watt. One of Watt's biggest negatives coming out was a lack of explosion coming off the line, while some of his postives were: great hand technique in getting off blocks, great hustle/relentless motor, high football IQ, and a knack for batting down passes and generally making big plays. Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so too...

I'm not saying Trent Murphy is going to have as big of an impact as JJ Watt, but I do think he can become a very good player who impacts the game in a variety of ways.

I think that we will look back on our FO's trade-back and subsequent selections in the 2nd as nothing short of outstanding in a few years. And no, I'm not being a homer.

Edit: *selection

It's hard not to like this guy, well at least until we see if he can play.

Love the comments on Facebook about Murphy being signed. Multiple dopes saying "he looks small". Yeah, 6-5 250 lbs is small.

I thought he was 260 and dropped 10lbs, I think he will put on another 15 lbs of muscle, but yeah clearly 6'6" 250lbs is small.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy

I think this was the best draft ever! Every player is bound for the HOF!

Wow. I hate the offseason.
